Title: Ragnarok on Netflix
Post by: El Diablo Blanco on October 14, 2020, 11:38:27 AM
This show is awesome.  It's a Norwegian show based on Norse mythology of Thor and Giants but takes place in the real world today.

The mom and Saxa are hot as fuck!

It's an awesome way to depict super heroes and villains without stupid colorful costumes.

We mean the 2020 series—not the 2013 movie.  Although that was fun too.

Season 2 is up on Netflix... looks like Thor beefed up a bit for the coming battles; I wonder who his trainer is?  Season 1 was a nice interpretation of the mythology... I hope season 2 can keep the magic going.

Just finished Season 2.  Still loving the evolution of Ragnarok, but why are the seasons so short?  Barely 6-7 episodes per season is not enough!  :(

The casting of this show is a big part of why it works.  It is hard to take your eyes off Saxa and Gry; the guy playing Laurits is as good a Loki as what we see in the MCU.  The gay/bi/trans vibes in the show seem both necessary (Laurits giving birth to the Midgard Serpent) and gratuitous (Iman seducing the Principal).  The pacing of this show and the building of tension far surpasses the MCU Thor films for entertainment value.

This is a perfect example of less is more.  No big budgets... no huge special effects... no crazy costumes... just good scripts... set in the "real world."  The leading characters are discovering their narratives at the same time the viewer is.  Good stuff!

Bay likey!

He has serious potential but he is not in any tier right now.  Needs a lot more food... more time in the oven... and lots more injections.  This is actually a great acting role for a young body builder who is willing to bulk up as the seasons progress.  :D

I think it is a Norwegian show and yes it is dubbed in English.  It's a good show though, I recommend giving it a try (no homo).

They speak Norwegian but it is subtitled so you can understand without problem.

You can also turn on the English audio track so you hear everything in English... but if Never1 finds all that too distracting then maybe this isn’t the show for him.

I think it's way better.

The Thor films get away with shit acting & bad story line given the presence of strategically placed masterful actors like Anthony Hopkins, amazing special effects and the fact that Chris Hemsworth is easy on the eyes for most viewers.

Take away the hefty budget and those films would be pretty painful to watch. This series pulls you in and has good story line. The actors are relatively unknown, but look the part and are doing quite well by way of their acting.

Will be sad to finish this second season, but eager to watch season 3 when released.

I asked this in the wrong thread...So is this series a bunch of PCBS or not? If it is filled with divershitty I want NOTHING to do with it even if the acting is good.  I also am not a fan of gratuitous sex .  Leave that to the imagination, not to the screen.  I know people engage in sexual relations, I don't need to witness on the screen. FFS, I am not controlled by my hormones.  The series "Penny Dreadful" was filled with sex and I found myself just fast forwarding through that crap. WTF?  Are people so debased that they live only to be voyeurs of the worst kind? FTN.

What's left of 'em! LOL!  So then, is it free of turd world bullshit or not?   Norse gods and goddesses were Nordic not black, yellow, red, brown, purple, green (Sorry Kermit) they were N O R D I C.  If not maybe I can get hired on to  play a crippled caucasion version of Crippled White Sambo for divershitty's sake?  FTN.

Shit, I've got more films on hand than HBOMax!  I'm home all week for tests and the like and going bonkers!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled and dignified Getbig thread decorum. ;D

It's not a diverse show. There's maybe 2-3 people of color in the entire series, but they're not lead characters for the most part. Even so, the people of color do a GREAT job. I think one is from Zimbabwe and another is actually Norwegian.

The show is very NORDIC. The main actors are all Norwegian with the exception of 1 that is from Iceland (still Nordic). If you go through the cast of the show, 99% are Norwegian. I really enjoy shows like this, because they give you a fresh group of faces/actors that aren't gift wrapped from Hollywood. I also enjoy other shows with a dystopian feel to them that take place in places like Germany.

I rather listen to the original with subs than watch failed lip synch.
I understand a bit of Swedish but Norwegian is quite different, altough similar.

Almost quit Dark because of the horrible dubbing. That was a great series too with fantasy related subject but done thru screenplay, not effects.

Yes there are some woke-ish sub-sub-elements but it’s not a central component of the show.  E.g. the Loki kid is bi or something but they don’t make a big deal about it.

Would pound out Ran.

I thought it was nice when that mentioned Ran outed his daughter by
: ” I think a man should be in charge.”

Loki did give birth in original Edda poems so... But in comics he would appear as a woman to some homofobic, have sex with him and then reveal himself. Just to see this other guy fit a noose around his neck.
But only if it would serve his purpose.

I think it is cool that one might believe him to grow up looking like Tom Hiddleston in Marvels version.

My Mom is awesome. She is a little bit “softer” looking than Ran. My guess is that they have applied Ran’s makeup to make her jawline more pronounced and give her a fiercer look.

My Mom has taken up downhill mountain biking. Apparently you take a ski lift to the top of a hill and mountain bike down wearing a helmet and padding.

I guess it could be worse ?

I have only seen pictures of her doing it. I have never tried it myself. She lives in Europe near the mountains, but I’m guessing she does it on smaller hills ?

She has padded gear that makes her look like Robocop.

Yes- you have to get geared up or you get pretty banged up when you crash. I first tried it at Steamboat in Colorado and found that the speeds can get wild very fast. In Europe, especially in the Alps, the climbs are often at a steeper pitch so mountain biking is truly daredevil. I'm sure your mom is starting on the gentler slopes to get the hang of it!

Watched season 2.

The continuous woke-ism and gender bending gets obnoxious.

Watched season 2.

The continuous woke-ism and gender bending get obnoxious.

Still, series main characters and the premise makes it very very easy to bypass it. Didn't phase me one bit.

Normally i hate (i am one of the biggest opponents of it) Woke-isms and unnecessary insertions of color in todays movies/series but i could easily ignore that due to wanting to see more of Thors evolution, Ran and what's going to happen next etc

Appreciated what was done with Thors physique from Season 1 to Season 2 for example, as i sat there in my Bunnysuit, cock in hand. (No Homer)

Will Baldur , Hel and Ymir emerge as well? :D

Check out the Getbiggers/Beefcakes Modi, Magni and Thrud at the bottom (might need to click pic)

Very intrigued for Season 3!

Word is that Season 3 is on the way… and it will be the final season.  Not sure on the release date so stay tuned.  Meanwhile if you need an immediate fix there is a movie on Amazon Prime called Mortal that offers another take on the mythology.

Ok. Somehow dubbing bothers me a lot so it’s orgininal and subs for me.

As a fan of the genre, I am the target audience and inclined to like them. That said, I think Mortal fell short.  All the ingredients were there but the script disappointed.  The budget was there… sets, costumes, special effects, editing, and production design were all passable.  I liked that it wasn’t a star vehicle and all the actors were new faces to me… but the script ended up going off a cliff in the last 20 minutes…  :'(

I’d give it a 5/10.
By contrast Ragnarock I’d give a 9/10

Agree that Ragnarok delivers well.

If I have nothing to watch, will check it out. You give it 5/10, Scott leans towards a 7.5/10, I'll meet it in the middle and assume a likely 6.25/10. Won't bring out the popcorn, but will watch it to kill some time.

Season 3 is out now, any getbiggers watching?  I started over at Season 1 since it had been a couple years and I forgot what was going on.

I like to watch it with original language and subs rather than lip syched to english. Looks too weird.

Yeah, shitty ending. Made no sense.

What didn’t make sense? He was a paranoid schizophrenic and made up the whole Thor story in his head. The guy with the patch he thought of as Odin.  He looked at the rich family as enemies and himself as the hero that stops them.

On another note.  I want to make a dozen kids with Saxa.

He was literally acting out the delusions to escape the death of his father. He carried a hammer, acted as Thor, dressed differently, was suspended for definitive acts and sent to different school, etc. His Mom told him it’s time to grow up, meaning that he needed to stop putting focus in his childish belief of super human powers.

The ending seemed liked a chopped ending because the next season didn’t get funding.
