In a tweet, Elder wrote, “Victory! My next one will be on Sept. 14 at the ballot box.”
He added: “This isn’t just a victory for me, but a victory for the people of California. And not just those who favor the recall and support me, but all voters, including many who will come to know me.”
Superior Court Judge Laurie M. Earl disagreed with a state decision that Elder failed to meet requirements to qualify to run in the election.
Under a new requirement, candidates for California governor must publicly release tax returns for the five most recent years to qualify for the ballot. It was passed in an effort by Democrats to force former President Donald Trump to release his tax returns during the 2020 election. A court struck down the presidential requirement but left it in place for gubernatorial candidates.
But the judge found the rule didn’t apply to recall elections and, even if it did, Elder has substantially complied. Forty-two other candidates have been cleared to appear on the recall ballot.
The election, in the nation’s most populous state, will be a marquee contest with national implications, watched closely as a barometer of the public mood heading toward the 2022 elections, when a closely divided Congress again will be in play.
Elder’s court win also will be celebrated by recall organizers who hoped for a large field of prominent candidates to attract voters. When Elder announced his candidacy, he immediately became one of the most recognized Republicans in the race, given his years on talk radio as well as appearances on Fox News and other media.
Elder announced his campaign July 12, but when a preliminary list of candidates was released last week, he wasn’t on it. The state argued his tax information was incomplete, but Elder said he’s the target of political “shenanigans” by Democrats aligned with Newsom who don’t want him on the ballot.

“100 Reasons to Recall Gavin Newsom” covers various things that have gone wrong from Webber‘s perspective during Newsom‘s three years in office.
It’s a quick funny clip job, narrated by Webber and using mostly screenshots from totally reputable new sources such as the AP, CNN, and California Globe.
By today’s standards—by any standards of political discourse, actually—it’s not particularly harsh. It’s well-sourced and obviously topical. So why did YouTube, the near-monopoly video sharing site owned by near-monopoly Google, put this video behind not just one warning screen but two?
“I can tell you what they sent me in the email,” Webber told the Globe in an extensive interview on Monday night. “On Friday, they wrote an email that read, ‘Our team has reviewed your content and we don’t think it’s in line with our violent or graphic content policy. As a result, we’ve age-restricted the following content: 100 Reasons To Recall Gavin Newsom.”
Would-be viewers of the video now have to click through one screen that warns “This video may be inappropriate for some users.” When one agrees to move on despite that stark caution, one is greeted with a second black screen that warns the content has been “identified by the YouTube community” as “inappropriate or offensive.”

Alexandra Datig, the ex-fiancée of conservative talk radio host Larry Elder, filed a police report Wednesday in an effort to substantiate accusations she recently made against him in Politico as he challenges Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in a recall.
The Los Angeles Times reported:
Larry Elder’s onetime fiancee said she filed a report with Los Angeles Police Wednesday over an incident six years ago in which she said Elder checked to see whether his gun was loaded during an argument about the couple’s breakup.
Alexandra Datig’s statement to police also included a new allegation — that Elder pushed her in 2014 during what she called a fit of “drug- induced anger.” She said Elder told her, “I don’t want you.”

Datig has opposed Elder in his campaign to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom in the California recall election. She said she filed the report because of Elder’s denial and the hostile reactions to her on social media that came after she went public with the claims last week.
Politico reported last Thursday that Datig claimed that Elder had “brandished” a gun at her. Elder denied the claim.
In a subsequent interview on KFI AM 640, Datig softened her claim, saying that he had merely shown her the gun.
He took out the .45 revolver — I have a picture of the gun because I’ve fired it at a shooting range — and he checked if, he opened the chamber to check if all the bullets were inside. The gun was always there, it was loaded. He wanted me to see that he was opening the chamber, and he closed it, and he put it back in the drawer. But he wanted to make sure that I saw it.
Datig also admitted, after questioning by the hosts, that the couple were not arguing at the time: “It was not a shouting match.” She still maintained that Elder was angry at that moment, but could not say why. “I just don’t even know.”
She went on to say that Elder was “not qualified to be governor of California,” and also cited his age. “I’m communicating that Larry Elder cannot serve in an official capacity and serve 39 milliion Californians at 69 years of age, where he can barely walk, and he’s a senior citizen.”
Newsom’s predecessor, Gov. Jerry Brown, served until he was over 80 years old.
She speculated that Elder might threaten or harm staff members in the governor’s office if he won the recall election.
The hosts commented after the interview ended that it seemed to have been “the Twilight Zone,” and that they had heard that Datig’s story had been turned down by other news outlets before being published by Politico last week.
Elder has led in most polls of potential replacements for Gov. Newsom. Polls also show Newsom in danger of removal.

Well, I lived in California for 14 years, from age 8 to 22 and even moved back one time with my wife for less than a year...just long enough to realize that we'd made a mistake. After that, we would visit family down south every couple of years. Eventually, many of our close relatives moved to Oregon to get away from what California had become.....which was a total rat race. All this was long before Newsom came on the scene.
I have fond memories of staying in one of the cottages at the Miramar in Santa Barbara and later at my parent's beach house just south of Santa Barbara. Also, before we moved to 'the valley great memories of my mom and I going to the beach in Santa Monica almost every day during the summer months.
Shortly before my wife and I married, we lived in Laurel Canyon and hung out on 'the strip'. We went to premiers at the major theaters on Hollywood Blvd. and in West Wood at the Village and pretended to hobnob with folks in the movie industry. These were all fun times. Maybe because we were young and didn't have a care in the world. Everything changed once our son was on the way. Suddenly, we realized that West Hollywood was not a great place to raise children and decent housing was slowly becoming unaffordable. The smog was a problem for me with my breathing issues. That's when we moved to Portland.
Sometimes when it has been raining here in Oregon for what seems like months on end, I think about the great pre-smog weather and carefree lifestyle in Southern California fondly only to realize that's long gone.
When you have lived as long as I have, you've seen the world change enormously. Old people, like me like to think and talk about the 'good old days' of our youth. I feel grateful to have lived during the time period I did, because sometimes the world seems to be going to 'hell in a handbasket' and I feel bad for my grandchildren and great-grandchildren when I realize that those of us who were here before them have collectively left a huge mess in our wake.
