Any metalhead getbiggers?
« on: October 09, 2015, 03:47:23 PM »
Was spinning Overkill's "Horrorscope" today. Wondering who else is big on the metal shit. I love me some older '80s thrash metal and stuff like early Morbid Angel, etc.

Testament(The New Order), Death(Leprosy), Anthrax(Among The Living), etc... for me.  Basically, most metal/thrash records which came out of 80's are my go to. Been a metal head since childhood. I was never into punk due to the out of tuned guitars, poor recording quality, etc..    I skipped over punk and went straight anything metal.

I can see how you would make that assumption.

Why not? What would you call them, then?

Grape, NOT an attack: "Metal" gets too complicated. Everyone has their own idea of rock vs. hard rock vs. metal vs. thrash vs. various super-specific subgenres - plus, ya got your straddler bands.

Grape, for perspective, please classify the following for me: AC/DC, Guns 'n Roses, Scorpions, Van Halen, Motorhead, Ratt/Motley/& 80s hair.

My take? FUCK YES on metalhead Getbiggers, one lives in my house. Uses my computer and user name. But this is what he considers metal:

Sabbath
Maiden
Priest
Metallica (up to Black, of course)
Slayer
Pantera
Tool (Sorry, Grape, a "progressive" thing)
Saxon
Accept
Dio (HD/LiL, then Strange Highways/Angry Machines)
Motörhead (Bastards, and Inferno/Kiss of Death, both 100% perfect metal)
Ozzy (until he sucked)
Black Label Society (ditto)
Does WASP or Crüe count? Skid Row? 80s hair gets confusing.
Badlands, Helmet, Deftones - this count? Korn (first couple), System, Rage - this?
Soundgarden and Alice, is this metal? It's f'n fantastic, but is it metal?
The Sword?
Revolution Mother/Life, Sex, Death, anyone?

(Damn these threads are frustrating.)

Been a diehard since 1982.

Never wavered.

Own over 4,000 CDs and 700 music DVDs.

On Wednesday I went to a concert featuring Decapitated (didn't make it over the border >:(), Soilwork and Soulfly. Was awesome.

Tonight I bought the newest live U.D.O. CD/DVD.

Each and every week I purchase anywhere from two to 10 discs.

My favourite bands are: Rush (my first musical love), Annihilator, Pagan's Mind, Decapitated, Fates Warning, Meshuggah, Emperor, Ratt, Monstrosity, Maiden, Priest, In Flames, Iced Earth, (old) Queensryche (new one with the new singer is quite good!), Accept, Pantera, Death, Night Ranger, Winger, Morbid Angel, Obscura, Slayer, Gojira, Dio, etc., etc., etc.

I literally could list DOZENS of other bands, too.

I have one room in my condo dedicated to all my CDs and paraphernalia.

I love quality bands in all substyles of metal. Trad., thrash, power, black (mostly the initial second-wave Norwegian groups, though), death (own HUNDREDS of classic and contemporary albums), hard rock, pop (hair), speed, progressive, etc.

Metal is the blood that flows in my veins.

No Steeler or Keel?

1) This is where I stopped caring about labels, just got too confusing. (Not attacking.)
B) Yes! Though maybe more 'hard rock' these days.

Ron Keel sang for Steeler, didn't he? Was Yngwie on Guitar?

Anyways, huge metal fan from way back, too many to name... All the classic bands from Accept to Zoetrope.

Liked a ton that weren't mainstream (Hallows Eve, Leige Lord, Agent Steel, etc). Music of today blows... (A few good ones, thats about it).

Yes, sir. These guys played in my little ghetto town in '83. Two future legends, crazy. Nowheresville. Year or two later I saw Yngwie with Hiroshima, I think (?), opened for Ratt in L.A. Paul Bonnet singing, maybe, sound familiar?

tomorrow it's "somewhere over the rainbow" on ukulele, then some pretty flamenco for a wedding ceremony.

damn it feels good to be a gangster.
