Making it big in Hollywood is like getting struck by lightning or winning Powerball.

Someone will make it but the odds are astronomical against it being you.

Not that someone shouldn't try but have a backup plan.

Must happen in some cases although the director of the movie is a hired gun usually.  Some directors do like working with certain actors.  The producers (money men) like the actor if he can make box office.

Most of it is based on box office.  If the movie makes money that leads to funding for another movie.

If the movies tank the actor gets dumped.  It only takes a bad box office or two for the actor to be dumped.

Hanks is a moneymaker.
