I took a 2-hour Power Skating class (on ice) this morning wearing men’s hockey skates.

I think my legs are going to be very sore tomorrow.

The two people teaching the class could skate backward faster than I could skate forward.

I did a lot of roller skating when I was young but never tried ice skating. I don’t think it would have been pretty

I started playing hockey as a winter diversion in upstate NY 10 years ago. I didn't know how to skate so I practiced at a local ice rink at lunch time. I just held one hand against the boards to steady myself and did laps. Got to be good enough after a few weeks. For skating backwards I did the same thing but going backwards for my laps. It works faster than you think!

I’ve ice skated a lot growing up, but the Power Skating lesson was different and quite fun.

I was working on doing the cross-over drill with my feet in corners and fell down a few times. There were probably 6-7 business men type guys there learning to skate better for their “Men’s League” hockey. I think I would have been better if I had a hockey stick to use for balance.

I think the class was aimed more at people who could skate, but wanted to get better, or more efficient, at it. I took it mostly for the exorcise.

One of the instructors was an ex-pro hockey player (I forgot his name) but even though he was probably 45-50 years old and 40-50 lbs overweight he cornered so fast that you could hear his skates cut the ice. He literally could make ice chips fly up in the air in mid-corner.

I practiced my hockey stops quite a bit, but flew over the top doing those too. I still think I need a stick for balance.
