Thieves Raiding Gas Stations In NYC

The stabbings are much more deadly, it used to be face slashing and limb stabbings. Now it's a lot of throat stabbings.
They don't usually take over delis, gas stations, etc.... They'll just straight up mask up and stick a pistol in the clerk's faces. Boosters don't rape the small stores because they're usually the boosters's best customers. Ice cream, razor blades, detergents, etc..... all get sold to those stores in bulk.
When they do get taken over by the shoplifters, it's high school or middle school kids. That's been going on for decades.
The legal and illegal smoke shops have become a problem. Robbers, gangs fighting over protection payments, and general neer-do-well activity center around them lots now.

With the ice cream, they pack those insulated cooler bags (sometimes stolen themselves from grocery delivery services), and they know exactly where to bring it afterward. They don't steal the big containers, but the little Hagan Daz or Ben and Jerry's pints. Someone blocks, and another person fills up the bag(s) that's on a luggage roller or in a shopping cart, then they just wheel out the whole thing.
A lot of the little stores are involved in hustles. Drug steering or just little drug sales - weed, etc... Occasionally there's much bigger stuff, but they've gotten better a not getting caught. Some sell illegal fireworks during the summer, and some still run numbers or have games in the back (games ranging from video slots to actual small scale poker or dice things).
Many are still honest, but they break their back to make it work. If the counter men are too happy, there's usually something else there making them money.

In a sane world, owners/employees would pull out a machine gun and give these rats a little something for their efforts.
