Last night I went to the gym much later than usual. Started my workout at 9:00 p.m.

I worked my back. I can feel it today, tomorrow ought to be pretty wild if I hold true to form the second day is the day I really feel the effects of a workout.

I replaced front lat pull downs with pull-ups for something different. I like the way I can also feel a good stretch in my abs when doing pull ups. On most of the exercises I switched up the equipment while maintaining the movement and resistance. I added reps here and there.

Tonight I hope to get to the gym by 8:00 p.m. It seems a better time. I'll be working deltoids, traps and abs.

Tonight I hit the gym at 7:00 p.m. It was swamped. I knew I was in trouble when I pulled into the parking lot and it was nearly full. My conclusion is that 7:00 is not a great time to workout at this gym.

I was done and headed out the door before 7:45. Like one might expect, every piece of equipment I was ready to use was in use already in use. This resulted in my having to be very flexible with my routine. I got everything taken care of, but this was definitely not my most inspired workout. Because I was using different equipment on nearly every exercise, I had no good reference point for the level of resistance I could handle. For the most part, I erred on the light side which resulted in more reps.

Tomorrow night the gym closes at 9:00 p.m. I am going to shoot for 7:30 so I don't hold up the staff and yet still get the whole routine in.

I was right on track this week. Tonight I got off track. My daughter decided to fix dinner and I found out about it too late to go to the gym beforehand and now it is too late to go at all since the gym is closed. I guess this is one of those times when "tomorrow is another day" is an appropriate response to this.

I planned to work chest, which is one of my more enjoyable body parts to exercise. Lately my pecs have been responding well to the routine I use. I  am pretty bummed right now, but I will get over it.

Some sad news hit us today. Danny, who is our oldest dog, is 11 1/2 years old. He's been out of sorts lately. I took him to the vet on Wednesday. His lab work came back today. He has canine lymphoma. The vet said that without chemo, he will probably survive another month or two. With chemo, he could be in remission for as long as a year. He's a big dog, so he's probably near the end of his normal lifespan anyway.

Next Tuesday Danny has an appointment with a specialty canine cancer vet. Should we determine that chemo is the way to go, it will cost in the neighborhood of $8,000.  My daughter's and my concern is mainly for his comfort. We will be asking the cancer specialist about the best way to preserve his quality of life for the little time he has left. If $8,000 would cure him, I'd be all for it. Unfortunately that will not happen. Chemo will only delay his ultimate fate. Losing him will be like losing a well-loved family member.

Prime sorry to hear about your dog. Sometimes I feel so many vets are just all about the money and prey on people's attachment to their furry friend.  A course of chemo with poor odds of actually doing anything but making the dog sicker sounds awful.  I'm sure your vet would love to have the money so he can fill his bank account. Sorry for the negativity but I have just seen too many people make 5K plus payments to vets for an operation or chemo only to have to put their dog down after wasting the money. Ask about the odds for improvement. Bet he won't give you any.

NJFlex, I have about 2 feet of snow by me. The wind is howling. My wife this morning saw plenty of lighting. Central Jersey is getting hit hard. The snow blower repair guy couldn't repair my machine in time waiting for a part so it's shovels for hours today!

Those of you living on the East Coast please be safe. Don't go out unless you absolutely have to. Going to the gym is not a must. A few days off won't hurt you. I'm thinking about you all whenever I watch the news.

You are a gem. All that snow shoveling more than makes up for any change in your regular workout routine, plus it got you closer to heaven. The image of the sun coming up over the white snow actually makes me wish I was there. Your 80 year old neighbor sounds amazing.

You just made me envious of you for being in the thick of it. By comparison my day was boring and empty of noble deeds. I spent the afternoon trying to find replacement halogen bulbs for the desk light. It would have been easier to buy a new desk lamp.

Trained back and chest after a week off because I was sick with a fever. Felt weak training but I lowered the weights.

Pull ups 3 x max
Seated V handle pulley lat pulls 3 x 12
Dumbbell rows with knee on bench 2 x 10 75lbs
narrow grip pull down 2 x 10

Flat dumbbell bench 2 x 8
Incline dumbbell bench 2 x 8
flat flies 2 x 10
machine flies 2 x 10
Hammer bench 2 x 8

dead lift 2 x 4 275-300lbs then 1 x 1 315lbs
weighted hypers 2 x 12 25lbs plate behind head.

Ab coaster 2 x 20 40lbs
machine crunch 2 x 15

Gym Observations:

I always keep to my self and just try to get the work done.  Met a guy I knew and it was chatting between every set. Felt it slowed my workout and took me out of my rhythm.

Due to the massive blizzard here and being sick I'm exhausted from shoveling. My snow blower is broken and I went old school shovel.

So many old people in this gym. How can they read when on cardio equipment?  They are not pushing them self what so ever. Maybe it's just good they are doing something instead of sitting around.  Just observed they walk on the treadmill slower than they walked from the parking lot to the gym. Never understood this phenomenon.  Seen it so many times even with some younger bodybuilders. A guy will walk with a brisk pace around the gym and walking to the car only to come to a slow motion walk on the treadmill.

This gym is like going back in time with all the old equipment.  A lot of the equipment is garbage but a many machines even though they are over 30 years  works great. Still get over how many of the dumbbells aren't marked and those that are I believe are 5lbs heavier than the decal on them.

I take off the wedding ring when I lift and put it on my key ring. Just in some movements it digs into my finger.  The only nice milf I have seen in the place stared at me while I took it off.  I can't help feel that she thinks I took it off to hit on the almost non existent women in the gym.

I stay out of the locker rooms in gyms because it seems in so many gyms it's where the gay guys hang out. Not that there's anything wrong with that said in my best Seinfeld voice.  I went in to blow my nose and it has posters of bodybuilders in it. There are no pictures of bodybuilders anywhere else in the gym. I remember my wife when we first dated and saw my bodybuiding magazines and was really turned off. Her 4 brothers were into traditional sports of baseball, football and basketball.  Never did any of her brothers bring home a magazine of an oiled up almost naked guy wearing a skimpy bathing suit. My wife thought it was really homo erotic.  Tried to explain it's a hard sport based on lifting weights but it took a long time before she was okay with it. Try telling a girl that the sport you're into is oiled up guys posing to music in speedos to cheering guys.   ;D

NJflex, glad to hear about your good PSA numbers. Maybe it was an anomaly from a prostate infection that gave you high numbers and now it's clear.

Trained legs today:

Dumbbell squats 2 x 12 80lbs (upright back and arms at sides. Squatted all the way down to the ground;dumbbells came within inches of the ground. Used straps. Still say this is one of the best leg exercises)
Leg press 2 x 12 (very deep with back board low.)
leg extensions 2 x 12
standing leg curls 3 x 12

Standing calf raise 2 x 12
seated calf raise 2 x 15

Ab coaster 2 x 21
crunch machine 2 x 15

four way neck machine 2 x 15 all positions. (The neck pumps so quickly. I would have a really skinny neck if I didn't train it.)

Gym observations:

This is one of the deadest gyms I have ever worked out in. Five people working out in this big dungeon type gym.  I know people like posh gyms now with shiny new equipment. This ain't it. The people who work there and the clients are so much better than the super gym I worked out in over the summer.  The only thing I miss is all the hot women. Most women wouldn't get caught dead here.  Also like I said before old people love this gym.  I'm going to failure right next to an 80 year old woman whose lifting in a machine. Yates and Coleman both worked out in dungeon type gyms.

Yes itīs the atmosphere and being able to lift without any worries about dropping a weight. A lot of Gyms now are trying to be more like a health club. I alternate between the Gym,Home and the Martial arts club i train in. today i did a full Body workout and went for a cycle as the snow is nearly all gone here.

believe it or not we had a trainer fired at our place for screaming ala Ronnie coleman when working out. Good guy but when working out with his Buddy he shouted all the time and made weird noises. Sort of hard to explain. Was a nice guy and funny at times. Too many people, mainly women complained about him. There were other issues though and i think his workout "style" was just an excuse to fire him. I used to laugh when he was doing it. . ;D

If anyone has  been following this thread knows a doctor put me on clomid to increase my low testosterone. It worked fantastic raising it from about 300 to 550. Then another doctor said using clomid isn't tested for long term use for raising test. He said it increases the risk of cancer. I had to get an answer. Instead of going to a urologist I went to a highly regarded endocrinologist from England that works in NJ.  He was surprised the urologist used clomid because it's an "off use" of that drug and he also felt it wasn't safe long term.  I asked him about HRT and he said he would give it to me if I wanted but he said there are risks involved that isn't worth it because I had no symptoms of low T other than what's on the blood test. He said if I was dirt low he could see using testosterone but to be borderline the risks aren't worth it.

Careful, you will have to get all your shirts custom made or tailored. I've lost a fair amount of weight this past year. Oddly, my neck only shrunk a half inch, being as how it is now 17". An off the rack dress shirt buttoned at the top, looks like a tent on me. It's not often I get that dressed up these days, so I guess it's not a huge problem. And no, there is no sign of a double chin....thank goodness.

This sucks.  Definitely the downside to owning pets, is that they never last long enough.  Wish you all the best.

Thanks for your kind thoughts.

We took Danny to the Specialty Vet who explained treatment options. $8,000 was the low estimate. Truth is the doctor can't say exactly what it would cost when all is said and done. Furthermore, there is no way to be assured the treatment would work. He did offer state of the art canine cancer treatment which includes chemo and DNA shots. All he could say about the DNA shots cost was that they cost "thousands of dollars". I guess if I was a billionaire I might be able to justify spending this much on something that may or may not work. And yes, chemo does make some dogs pretty sick, although they don't lose there hair.

Danny is getting ground turkey and rice for his meals. He scarfs it down. It is comforting, knowing that he's at least eating regularly for now. He sleeps a lot more than usual, but otherwise is the lively "puppy" we've loved all these years. I believe we've made a good decision.

Today i just did an upper body workout because on Tuesday i had a small accident with my Mountain Bike. It was dark and my front wheel just slid. Not sure what happened but i hit my knee and arm. My knee swole up so i got it checked and cleaned up because it was bleeding. No fracture but it really is looking a mess and rather Black and Blue ..never mind boys will be boys.. ;D
