Stuck in a hotel. Wanted to go see a movie to avoid what I predicted would be a train wreck. Didn't like anything playing. Stuck watching the train wreck instead.
My thoughts:
- The first question was the best question of the night: are you better off today than four years ago. Didn't get answered.
- Trump telling Harris that her policy positions on her website were simplistic and they are like "run spot run" made me laugh.
- Trump telling Harris he would send Harris a MAGA hat was mildly funny.
- Trump let Harris bait him on a number of irrelevant, dumb issues. He did a poor job of staying on message.
- Harris just repeated memorized lines. I was not impressed.
- Her abortion comments were just plain dumb. After saying we need Roe v. Wade back, she said that in every state where abortion has come up for a vote in red and blue states the people have voted for freedom. In other words, we don't need Roe v. Wade and Trump was right. But she is not smart enough to understand it.
- Trump's line: "I'm talking now. Does that sound familiar" was a drop the mic laugh out loud moment.
- The moderators were ridiculously biased. Repeatedly tried to fact check Trump and help Harris. Did not fact check Harris once. Including Harris lying about "very fine people," police officers dying on January 6, "blood bath," etc.
- Trump saying Harris should wake Biden up and get him out of bed at 4 p.m. so he can close the border was pretty funny.
- A bunch of stupid friggin questions from the moderators. Peaceful transfer of power, did you lose the election, what color is Kamala Harris, etc. Who the heck cares about that crap?
- Trump responding to the threat to democracy claim from Harris by saying Biden got 14 millions votes and she got none . . . talk about to threat democracy . . . was pretty good.
- Trump saying "quiet please" when Harris tried to talk over him again made me laugh out loud.
- Trump talking about how weak Harris is as demonstrated by her meeting with Zelensky and Putin invading three days later was good.
- They brought up Afghanistan, asked Harris if she bears any responsibility for how it played out, let her skate on her answer, then dropped the topic like a bad habit. Ridiculous.
- The moderators didn't fact check Harris and Trump failed to clearly respond to Harris lying about supporting private health insurance and opposing gun confiscation.
- Talking about climate change was a waste of my time.
- Overall, Harris and her histrionics when she was not speaking looked unprofessional and non-presidential. She sounded like someone who memorized and the repeated her lines. Trump is unscripted and speaks more like a non-politician, but he really whiffed overall on forcing her to respond to the issues that matter. He did hit her on her fracking lies, but not well enough. I didn't like what I saw.
I want that two hours of my life back. I should have gone to go see a lousy movie.
