Dems plot how to protest Trump speech, short of a boycott
By  Brooke Singman

FoxNews.com

Democrats might not be planning a mass boycott of President Trump's first address to Congress, as they did for his inauguration -- but that doesn't mean they'll greet the president with open arms, either.

Some of Trump's biggest critics are planning to demonstrate their opposition to the 45th president in their own way when he enters the House chamber Tuesday night.

Rep. Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., for instance, is planning to ditch his years-long tradition of standing at the edge of the aisle to shake the president's hand.

He announced Tuesday he won't shake hands with Trump.

“This isn’t part of our normal political discourse, this goes beyond ideological and political differences,” Engel said, referring to reports of the Trump administration’s ties to Russia and efforts to repeal ObamaCare. “I will listen to what he has to say today, but I will not greet him and shake his hand.”

Other Democrats are making a statement of sorts with the guests they invite.

Rhode Island Rep. Jim Langevin is leading an effort to encourage members to bring guests from their districts who have been, or could be, negatively affected by Trump administration policies.

Some of those participating include Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colo., who is attending with a beneficiary of the Obama-era policy sparing illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children from deportation. Rep. Judy Chu, D-Calif., will attend alongside a 35-year old Iranian graduate student impacted by Trump’s executive order calling for a temporary ban on immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries.

“Participating Democratic members are hoping that their diverse body of guests will remind President Trump that he is not the arbiter of patriotism,” a statement from Langevin’s office said. “This country belongs to people of all colors, genders, orientations, and faiths, and Democratic members of Congress will continue to stand against President Trump’s divisive actions that marginalize communities across the country.”

Members of the House Democratic Women’s Working Group, meanwhile, plan to wear white to show their “commitment to protecting women’s rights,” such as access to affordable health care, equal pay, and affordable childcare.

“We wear white to unite against any attempts by the Trump Administration to roll back the incredible progress women have made in the last century, and we will continue to support the advancement of all women,” Rep. Lois Frankel, D-Fla., group chairwoman, said in a statement. “We will not go back.”

Despite the preemptive pushback, White House officials are previewing a largely "optimistic" speech that will highlight Trump's key accomplishments to date and lay out the agenda ahead.

While House Democrats say they won’t “disruptively protest” during the president’s speech, there might be one thing Trump could do to win them over.

“If the president wants a standing ovation from the Democrats side of the aisle tonight, he’ll announce that he’ll release his taxes,” Rep. Joseph Crowley, D-N.Y., quipped.

He said Democrats would otherwise be "polite and show very little, if any, enthusiasm of what we anticipate he has to say.”

Senior House Democrat plans to skip Trump's speech to Congress
By BENJAMIN SIEGEL
Feb 28, 2017

A liberal House Democrat from California plans to skip President Donald Trump's address to Congress Tuesday evening.

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-California, the ranking member on the House Financial Services Committee, told House Democrats at a caucus meeting this morning that she will not attend the speech because she doesn't think she will be able to control herself, according to Democrats who attended.

"The president is not going to say what I want him to say," Waters told ABC News in an interview after the meeting. "He's going to take credit for everything."

Waters has emerged as one of Trump's loudest critics on Capitol Hill. She has called his team a "bunch of scumbags" and said he is "leading himself" to impeachment.

Overall, Democrats have little appetite for causing a ruckus similar to the outburst by Rep. Joe Wilson, R-South Carolina, during a 2009 Obama address to legislators. The congressman's "You lie!" response to a line from Obama about health care was swiftly condemned on Capitol Hill as a breach of decorum.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-California said not to expect any outbursts during the speech, telling MSNBC that the "House Democratic caucus will be very dignified."

During a closed door meeting with House Democrats Tuesday, Pelosi urged her colleagues to be on their best behavior, saying they should not be "out-classed" by Donald Trump, according to her office.

"I think we have to deal with this in the utmost dignity. We cannot become them; we don't like what they did to our president," she told Democrats, as first reported in Politico and later confirmed to ABC. "We cannot be out-classed by Donald Trump. That would be the worst of all outcomes."

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley, D-New York, agreed with Pelosi, saying he doesn't anticipate any organized protests during the remarks tonight from Democrats — though some will be wearing commemorative pins.

Many House Democratic women are expected to wear white --- the color of the suffragette movement --- to "show their commitment to protecting women's rights." "We're taking the Michelle Obama" route, Rep. Lois Frankel, D-Florida, said. "We're going to be as dignified as possible under the circumstances."

"I think we intend to be polite and listen and obviously comment afterwards," said Rep. John Garamendi, D-California. "There is a place for torches and pitchforks but not in the House of Representatives."

Kentucky Rep. John Yarmuth, who, like Waters, skipped Trump's inauguration, plans to attend the speech tonight to "show solidarity with my fellow Democrats."

Man charged with kicking, yelling at Muslim Delta employee

According to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, Rhodes was waiting for a connecting flight to Worcester, Massachusetts, when he entered the Delta Sky Lounge at JFK. He came up to the office of the employee, who has not been identified, and said, "Are you [expletive deleted] sleeping? Are you praying? What are you doing?"
According to the criminal complaint, Rhodes punched the door, which hit the back of the employee's chair. The employee asked Rhodes what she had done to him and he replied, "You did nothing but I am going to kick your [expletive deleted] ass," the complaint said.
Rhodes then kicked the employee in the leg, according to the complaint.
Brown said the employee attempted to get away, but Rhodes persisted, kicking the door and stepping into her office and blocking her from escaping.   Another person, also not identified, tried to calm Rhodes and moved him away from the door. The employee ran out of the office to the lounge's front desk.

Rhodes allegedly followed the employee, at one point getting down on his knees, bowing down in imitation of a Muslim praying.
He shouted, "[Expletive] Islam, [expletive] ISIS, Trump is here now. He will get rid of all of you. You can ask Germany, Belgium and France about these kind of people. You will see what happens.

9th Circuit has an 80% turn over in the Supreme Court. Now you have people calling for impeachment of this judge because he can't follow the law or the constitution and makes up opinions as he goes along.

Rep. Maxine Waters to Trump: 'Get Ready for Impeachment'

A Democratic congresswoman issued a warning about impeachment to President Donald Trump in a tweet on Tuesday.

Get ready for impeachment.
2:56 AM - 21 Mar 2017

Rep. Maxine Waters has called on Congress to impeach the president if evidence appears that proves collusion with the Russian government during his presidential campaign, according to The Hill.

No evidence has appeared that ties members of Trump's campaign to officials in the Kremlin.

The California Democrat has not minced words when discussing issues about Trump and members of his campaign. Pinned to the top of her Twitter account is an image depicting what she calls Trump's "Kremlin Klan."

These are the presenthurdles blocking Trump's second travel ban proposal. Don't think any are in the 9th Circuit court. Isn't Thursday the big day for this?

The Hawaii case is State of Hawaii v. Trump, 17-cv-00050, U.S. District Court, District of Hawaii (Honolulu). The Virginia case is Sarsour v. just a bit of perspective

Quote
In fact, the Supreme Court reversed about 70 percent of cases it took between 2010-15. Among cases it reviewed from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, it reversed about 79 percent.

The 9th Circuit’s reversal rate is higher than average, but it’s not the absolute highest among the circuit courts. That distinction goes to the 6th Circuit, which serves Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee, with an 87 percent average between 2010-15.  The 9th Circuit is in third place.

6th Circuit - 87 percent;

11th Circuit - 85 percent;

9th Circuit - 79 percent;

3rd Circuit - 78 percent;

2nd Circuit and Federal Circuit - 68 percent;

8th Circuit - 67 percent;

5th Circuit - 66 percent;

7th Circuit - 48 percent;

DC Circuit - 45 percent;

1st Circuit and 4th Circuit - 43 percent;

10th Circuit - 42 percent.

We also found that the 9th Circuit never had the highest reversal rate in any individual term between 2004-15. (That’s the farthest back we could go.)

Schumer loses cool with Trump supporter at swanky restaurant

Sen. Chuck Schumer caused a scene at a Manhattan restaurant when he began yelling at a wealthy and well-connected Donald Trump supporter that the POTUS is “a liar.”

Schumer, the top Senate Democrat, lost his cool on Sunday night at Upper East Side restaurant Sette Mezzo, according to witnesses.

He was dining with friends when he encountered Joseph A. Califano Jr. — the former US secretary of health, education and welfare under President Jimmy Carter and domestic policy adviser to President Lyndon B. Johnson — and his wife, Hilary, who were having a quiet dinner.

California University Professor: Hang Trump, Execute Republicans
By Jeffrey Rodach   |    Wednesday, 12 Apr 2017

The president of Fresno State University says the school will aid in any federal investigation into a professor's tweets which called for President Donald Trump to be hanged and Republicans to be killed, Fox News reports.

The news station quoted these tweets, which is said came from Professor Lars Maischak's Twitter account.

"To save American democracy, Trump must hang. The sooner and the higher, the better."

"Has anyone started soliciting money and design drafts for a monument honoring the Trump assassin, yet?"

"Justice = The execution of two Republicans for each deported immigrant."

"Fresno State understands the deep concerns that have been shared as a result of personal comments made by Professor Lars Maischak, who is a lecturer in the History Department at Fresno State," the school's President Joseph Castro wrote in an open letter to students, faculty and staff.

"In response to these concerns, we have conducted a preliminary review to ensure that it is clear that the statements made by him were as a private citizen, not as a representative of Fresno State.

"Professor Maischak's personal views and commentary, with its inclusion of violent and threatening language, is obviously inconsistent with the core values of our University. While Fresno State is committed to state and federal constitutional rights of free speech, the content of statements by Dr. Maischak warrants further review and consideration."

And he adds: "The University will fully cooperate with any investigations conducted by Federal officials."

Fox News noted the Secret Service has not commented on whether it is investigating.

But Maischak has fired back saying it was "far-fetched" to assume his Trump tweet represented an invitation to murder the president, The Washington Free Beacon reported.

"I am appalled that the president of the university is allowing himself to be instrumentalized for a right-wing smear campaign," Maischak said.

MSNBC’s O’Donnell: Maybe Putin Masterminded Chemical Attack So Trump Could Look Good by Striking Syria
by Ian Hanchett
7 Apr 2017

On Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The Last Word,” anchor Lawrence O’Donnell stated that “if Vladimir Putin masterminded the last week in Syria, he has gotten everything he could have asked for.” O’Donnell then floated a theory that Putin told Syria’s Bashar al-Assad to launch a small chemical attack that was big enough to attract media attention and prompt President Trump into launching a missile strike, which would then change the subject from Russian influence.

O’Donnell said, “[W]ouldn’t it be nice if it was just completely, totally, absolutely impossible to suspect that Vladimir Putin orchestrated what happened in Syria this week so that his friend in the White House could have a big night, with missiles, and all of the praise he’s picked up over the last 24 hours? Wouldn’t it be so nice if you couldn’t even in your wildest dreams imagine a scenario like that?”

He added, “I don’t know what it is. Is it a 2% chance? Is it a 50% chance? Is — I don’t know. But what — I don’t think it’s a 0% chance, and it used to be, with every other president prior to Donald Trump.”

O’Donnell further stated, “Well, when Bill Clinton fired missiles during his presidency, Republicans questioned that. They questioned whether that was to distract attention from the Monica Lewinsky scandal, and that was a legitimate question.”

O’Donnell later added, “It’s perfect, just perfect. I wish it wasn’t. If Vladimir Putin, if, if, if Vladimir Putin masterminded the last week in Syria, he has gotten everything he could have asked for. Vladimir Putin was essentially the man in charge of making sure that Syria got rid of all of its chemical weapons under a deal with the Obama administration. And so it makes perfect sense to question whether President Bashar al-Assad would have checked with his most important patron, Vladimir Putin, before using chemical weapons that Vladimir Putin was supposed to have helped get rid of. It would be terribly embarrassing to Vladimir Putin if President Assad had exposed Vladimir Putin as having completely failed to get rid of those chemical weapons. You wouldn’t want to be Bashar al-Assad in a conversation with Vladimir Putin after that, unless you had a conversation with him before that. Unless Vladimir Putin said, ‘I have an idea. go ahead, do a small chemical attack, nothing like the big ones you’ve done in the past, just big enough to attract media attention. So that my friend in the White House will see it on TV. And then, Donald Trump can fire some missiles at Syria, that’ll do no real damage, and then the American news media will change the subject from Russian influence in the Trump campaign and the Trump transition and the Trump White House.’ It’s perfect.”

He continued, “For most of the news media, it changes the conventional wisdom about the dynamic between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. President Trump has finally dared to do something that Vladimir Putin doesn’t like. It changes everything. As long as you never, never question whether Vladimir Putin wanted all of this to happen this week. And when you question that and you look at what has happened, it’s always worth remembering that if Vladimir Putin really does have ways, known or unknown to Donald Trump, to influence Donald Trump, then every day that is a good day for President Trump is a good day for President Putin. Now not one word that I’ve just said could possibly have been said about any president prior to Donald Trump.”

O’Donnell further said, “you will hear opinion in this hour that is counter to the possible scenario that I have just outlined, but what you won’t hear is proof that that scenario that I’ve just outlined is impossible.”

O’Donnell did say that he raised this scenario “without assigning a statistical probability to it. I don’t know what it is. I just know that it’s not zero, and it should be zero. It has been zero with every previous president. But when you look at the way the events have unfolded this week, Donald Trump could not have asked for a better end of the week, for his presidency as he sees it.”

During the panel discussion that took place after O’Donnell’s monologue, he did concede that it did make sense to notify Russia in advance of the strike to avoid further escalation.
