San Francisco will allow police to deploy robots that kill

Supervisors in San Francisco voted Tuesday to give city police the ability to use potentially lethal, remote-controlled robots in emergency situations -- following an emotionally charged debate that reflected divisions on the politically liberal board over support for law enforcement.

The vote was 8-3, with the majority agreeing to grant police the option despite strong objections from civil liberties and other police oversight groups. Opponents said the authority would lead to the further militarization of a police force already too aggressive with poor and minority communities.

If the SFPD has the budget to spend on an expensive boondoggle like this, that's as good an indicator as any that they need to be defunded.  What an obscene waste of money

Like some robotic canines used in a "CoC" (City of Color) any and all crime fighting robots will be called "raciss" and removed.   In the Bay area they will simply be reprogrammed, equipped with strap-ons, a "RealFeel Anus" and a credit card reader then released in the Castro district.

This doesn’t really make sense.

A thief can openly steal less than $1000 of products from a store and police won’t stop them BUT now they’re going to use Robocop’s successor to patrol the streets?

Once the robocops can be mass manufactured for less than $1000 the thieves will start stealing them as well.
