Was this a botched finish or a work set up for RAW?

The rules state that, if you exit the cage, your feet have to hit the floor. Reigns speared Lesnar out of the cage. Lesnar landed on his back with the gimmicked part of the cage underneath him.

BUT, clearly Lesnar's feet were still on the section of the cage still attached to the ring and NOT on the floor mat. Reigns rolled off Lesar with his feet hitting the floor FIRST! Yet, the ref awarded the match to Lesnar.

With Samoa Joe scheduled to face Reigns at Backlash, one wonders if this the end of the Lesnar-Reigns feud (with Lesnar simply messing up the finish) or does Reigns get one more title shot, based on a worked controversy (shades of New Age Outlaws-LOD 2000 from 20 years ago at In Your House: Unforgiven)?

If this is a work, will they vacate the title and have some sort of tournament for Reigns to win (ala 2015 Survivor Series)?

Or does Kurt Angle reverse the ref's decision and give the belt to Reigns, ala Eddie Guerrero vs JBL, Judgment Day 2004?

Planned finish. It keeps the title on Lesner but lets Reigns look strong. He will be feuding with Samoa Joe. New storylines.

How are they going to close the Lesnar-Reigns feud on that weak sauce? Lesnar is the BEAST, the conquerer. The last image we get is Reigns nearly spearing him in two but keeping his title on a blown call?

He’s definitely NOT the reigning, defending, UNDISPUTED Universal Champion now.

Plus, Reigns is still on RAW; Samoa Joe is now on Smackdown. What happens after Backlash?
