Agreed. Family relationships are very important for most people regardless of their age. Statistics suggest people who live alone don't live as long and are 50% more likely to suffer dementia.

On the other hand, my almost 3-year-old great-granddaughter's tantrums might be the end of my sanity. Thank goodness I wear hearing aids which I take out when her constant screaming becomes unbearable, like it is right now.

That's a gaydar alarm.

Biden tells US to have confidence in banks after 2 collapse
Associated Press ^ | March 13, 2023 | Ken Sweet, Christopher Rugaber, Chris Megerian and Cathy Bussewitz
Posted on 3/13/2023, 12:50:15 PM by

President Joe Biden insisted Monday that the nation’s banking system was safe, seeking to project calm after the collapse of two banks stirred fears of a broader upheaval and prompted regulators to offer emergency loans to banks to stave off additional failures.

“Your deposits will be there when you need them,” Biden said.

Despite the message from the White House, investors continued to dump shares in bank stocks. Shares of First Republic Bank plunged more than 70% even after the bank said it was accessing emergency funding from the Federal Reserve as well as additional funds from JPMorgan Chase. […]

Speaking from the White House shortly before a trip to the West Coast, the president said he would seek to hold those responsible accountable, and he pressed for better oversight and regulation of larger banks. He promised that no losses would be borne by taxpayers. “We must get the full accounting of what happened,” he said. “Americans can have confidence that the banking system is safe.”

Biden also said the managers of the banks should be fired. …

Most New York Democrats reject Biden’s likely re-election bid: poll
NY Post ^ | 03-27-2023 | Mark Moore
Posted on 3/27/2023, 11:24:30 AM by ChicagoConservative27

Just over half of Democrats in New York state think their party should nominate somebody other than President Biden in 2024, while a majority of Empire State Republicans say they would vote for former President Donald Trump next year, according to a poll released Monday.

While 43% of registered New York Democrats believe the 80-year-old Biden should be nominated to run for a second term, 51% said they wanted a “different candidate,” a Siena College poll found.

However, a whopping 63% of those who wanted another Democrat said they didn’t know or had no opinion about who should be the party’s standard-bearer.

When given a list of seven potential stand-ins, more Democrats preferred Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (5%) to Vice President Kamala Harris (3%).

Chinese spy balloon gathered intelligence from sensitive U.S. military sites, despite U.S. efforts to block it
NBC News / Comcast ^ | April 3, 2023 | By Courtney Kube and Carol E. Lee
Posted on 4/3/2023, 7:28:41 AM by Oldeconomybuyer

The Chinese spy balloon that flew across the U.S. was able to gather intelligence from several sensitive American military sites, despite the Biden administration’s efforts to block it from doing so, according to two current senior U.S. officials and one former senior administration official.

China was able to control the balloon so it could make multiple passes over some of the sites (at times flying figure eight formations) and transmit the information it collected back to Beijing in real time, the three officials said. The intelligence China collected was mostly from electronic signals, which can be picked up from weapons systems or include communications from base personnel, rather than images, the officials said.

The three officials said China could have gathered much more intelligence from sensitive sites if not for the administration’s efforts to move around potential targets and obscure the balloon’s ability to pick up their electronic signals by stopping them from broadcasting or emitting signals.

The National Security Council referred NBC News to the Defense Department for comment. The Defense Department directed NBC News to comments from February in which senior officials said the balloon had “limited additive value” for intelligence collection by the Chinese government “over and above what [China] is likely able to collect through things like satellites in low earth orbit.”

Small businesses are filing for bankruptcy at a higher rate than at the peak of the pandemic - and a looming credit crunch could make things worse
Market Insider ^ | 4/3/23
Posted on 4/3/2023, 6:40:20 AM by EBH

Now that it's April, we can say a spate of banks collapsed last month, but the repercussions of the crisis continue to unfold as if it all happened yesterday.

The chatter now centers around a looming credit crunch — but the troubling part is that red flags were flying well before we heard a peep from Silicon Valley Bank.

Before March, the number of small- and mid-sized businesses filing for bankruptcy was already on the rise, meaning the bank turmoil only exacerbates an existing trend.

UBS strategists wrote in a note last week that those companies have been facing pressure from rising rates, sticky inflation, and slowing growth.

Already in 2023, the number of private bankruptcies has surpassed the previous peak set in the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, my colleague Carla Mozeč writes.

Bankruptcy hot spots right now, according to UBS, include the real estate industry, which has led this year's increase in filings, but the healthcare sector could follow suit as credit stress seeps into the labor market.

The FDIC is facing more than $20 billion in costs as a result of the tumult, and the failures last month have stoked concerns that other vulnerable banks will soon be forced to pull back on lending as they see lower deposit rates and tighter financial conditions.

Biden Has Finally Found Something He Won't Spend Billions of Dollars on
Townhall ^ | 04/03/2023 | Julio Rosas
Posted on 4/3/2023, 1:48:01 PM by SeekAndFind

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas revealed the reasons why President Joe Biden refuses to build more wall along the U.S.-Mexico border amid the ongoing crisis that was kicked off by his policies after entering office.

Mayorkas told "60 Minutes" Biden will not spend billions of dollars on a security measure advocated by Border Patrol because a wall "is immovable."

"Well, the president — as — I think you know very well, said we are not going to construct more wall that costs billions and billions of dollars, that is immovable," he explained.

Mayorkas also explained why he does not use the word "crisis" to describe the historic situation at the southern border.

"I view it as a significant challenge," he said.

"Because I have tremendous faith in the people of the Department of Homeland Security. And a crisis, speaks to me, of a withdrawal from our mission and we are only putting more force and more energy into it."

Japan breaks ranks with US, EU to start buying Russian crude oil
Firstpost ^ | 4/3/23 | Umang Sharma
Posted on 4/3/2023, 3:55:04 PM by Its All Over Except ...

Tokyo: Japan has ditched the United States to purchase Russian crude oil above the $60-a-barrel cap, saying it needed it to ensure access to energy from Moscow.

The oil purchases by Japan represent a break in the US-led efforts to impose a global $60 per barrel cap on purchases of Russian oil. However, a report by The Wall Street Journal said Tokyo, which is Washington’s closest allies in Asia, got the US agree to the exception.

Most European nations stopped purchasing Russian oil in response to the invasion of Ukraine in February last year.

The G7 nations which include Japan and European Union and Australia, last year agreed to a $60 a barrel price cap on Russian seaborne crude oil to reduce Russia’s income from selling oil while preventing a surge in global prices.

The cap on price allowed non-EU nations to continue importing Russian crude oil but restricted shipping, insurance and re-insurance companies from handling cargoes of Russian crude around the globe, unless it is sold for below $60 a barrel.

On 30 September last year, the EU nations granted an exception to the $60 a barrel cap for oil purchase by Japan.

In the first two months of this year, Japan purchased nearly 748,000 barrels of Russian oil for 6.9 billion yen, that translates to $52 million, or slightly lower than $70 a barrel.

They released Biden’s March Jobs Report today … Good Friday.

A holiday.

As anyone who doesn’t have their head completely buried in the sand would have guessed, jobs are down, except for in the public sector. Oh goodie, more people working for the government. And of course, things are even worse than they’re actually reporting in the media. Take a look at this:

of the 236k added, 75k were second jobs. pic.twitter.com/lsGactxQpZ

— Frog Capital (@FrogNews) April 7, 2023

Yay! Unemployment is down … but it’s because people are working two jobs to survive in this economy. Did we mention that wages were down again? So not only are we all paying more for our basic needs but we’re making less.

Go Biden go.

i couldnt make ends meet without my 2nd job

— notyerbusiness (@itsstillmelazy) April 7, 2023

Sounds like more and more people can’t make ends meet without a second job.

Oh yeah, and all of those layoffs …

Sadly, this is only the beginning of what is to come with Biden’s disastrous policies and Democrats focusing on supporting men who think they’re women.

Good times.

Biden admin....transparent and trustworthy.

"A new batch of classified documents that appear to detail American national security secrets from Ukraine to the Middle East to China surfaced on social media sites on Friday, alarming the Pentagon and adding turmoil to a situation that seemed to have caught the Biden administration off guard,"

"The scale of the leak — analysts say more than 100 documents may have been obtained — along with the sensitivity of the documents themselves, could be hugely damaging, U.S. officials said,"
