New York's City's Washington Square Park which has been the scene of a number of late night brawls and scuffles with police over last few weeks has now become host to fighting of a different kind - unlicensed boxing matches complete with a referee and time keeper.

The Manhattan park appeared more like Madison Square Garden as boxing matches took place in front of hundreds of people, all of which was all caught on camera.

At least five matches took place close to the famous arch in Greenwich Village with participants paying five dollars to take part.

One fighter ended up dislocating his shoulder during the knockabout and had to have another man shove it back into its socket.

Photographer Angel Zayas said there was no supervision whatsoever, nor did the NYPD attempt to break up the bouts.

'The NYPD did not enter the park to stop the fights there was a large crowd which created a circle making it very difficult for people to get in and even when there was an injury of the man's shoulder being dislocated.

No one was called to help nor an ambulance. They fixed it themselves and continued the fight,' Zayas told DailyMail.com.

Perfect: In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio Will Be Replaced by a Cop or a Vigilante
PJ Media ^ | 07/07/2021 | Stephen Kruiser
Posted on 7/7/2021, 12:07:43

Tuesday was the six-month anniversary of the January 6 riot that Democrats are treating like Pearl Harbor Day. They would prefer that the nation focus on that and forget the fact that the country’s blue cities were on fire for pretty much the entire summer of 2020 and the people they supported had the matches.

The rush was on by Democrats to support total anarchy and treat law enforcement as the enemy. Few were quicker to jump on that bandwagon than NYC's Mayor Bill de Blasio. Mayor Bill was more than eager to hang out with Black Lives Matter agitators all the while being one of the more prominent voices to consistently call to defund the police.

New York was one of the first major cities to cut its police budget. In a very short time, de Blasio and the Democrats had created such a toxic environment that NYPD officers were retiring in droves. The number of applications for retirement had to be capped to prevent a total decimation of the force.

What followed could have been predicted by any fourth-grader. Violent crime spiked in all of the Democrat-run cities that kneecapped their police forces. Within a year, they were all clamoring to get their cops back.

This crime-ridden, anti-cop festering mess that de Blasio has created provides an interesting backdrop to the way New York City’s upcoming mayoral race is playing out.

We kinda/sorta have the result of the convoluted ranked-choice Democratic primary, and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams is likely to be declared the winner. Adams is a retired NYPD officer who will now face Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa in the election.

As my colleague John Sexton wrote over at Hot Air, this almost certainly means that Adams is going to be New York’s next mayor.

The Inmates Of Rikers Island Are In Control Of The Jail, The New York Times Reports (Covid Mandates)

Inmates of New York City's Rikers Island jail complex are reportedly running amok.

Detainees at the understaffed jail have taken control of entire units, The New York Times reported.

Inmates of New York City's long-beleaguered Rikers Island jail complex are running amok at the notorious lockup - and some have taken control over entire facility units, The New York Times reported on Monday.

"Rikers has long been dysfunctional, decrepit and dangerous," Zachary Katznelson told the news outlet. He's the executive director of a research and advocacy organization called Independent Commission on New York City Criminal Justice and Incarceration Reform.

But Katznelson added, "What we see today is next level. It is an inability to deliver even the basic services - something we haven't seen in a long time, if not ever."

Detainees at the severely understaffed jail complex, which is made up of eight buildings and currently houses about 4,800 inmates, have asserted power over whole units, deciding who can enter and exit them, The Times reported, citing interviews and records.

Some Rikers inmates have stolen keys and used them to free other detainees, according to The Times.

In August, a man awaiting trial at the facility snatched keys from a city Department of Correction officer, set free another detainee, and then slashed the guard's face and neck with a knife, the report said.

During another disturbing incident on September 16, a handcuffed Rikers inmate hijacked an unguarded bus with other detainees on board and crashed it into a jail building, according to The Times.

Other detainees have run wild in staff break rooms, as well as restricted areas of the complex, and openly broke rules against smoking tobacco and marijuana, the newspaper reported.

Bill de Blasio Is On the Way Out, But His Mindset Lingers
Townhall.com ^ | October 15, 2021 | Michael Barone
Posted on 10/15/2021, 7:33:57 AM

As his two terms as New York's mayor approach their end, and long after his presidential campaign ended with a whimper, Bill de Blasio has chimed in with one last act of destruction: a proposal to end the public schools' entry-by-exam gifted and talented program for first graders.

De Blasio's gripe is that selection by tests results in a student body that is, as New York Times reporter Eliza Shapiro slyly put it, "widely criticized for exacerbating segregation." Of course what de Blasio, Shapiro and the anonymous critics she repeatedly references are complaining about is not actually segregation, which means imposed separation by race. It is the fact that the racial percentages of the gifted students differ from those of the city as a whole.

Specifically, this program, and those at selective high schools such as Stuyvesant High School and the Bronx High School of Science, which de Blasio tried to abolish, include much larger percentages of students classified as Asian and lower percentages of those classified as Black and Hispanic.

In practice, de Blasio's proposal is unlikely to be effective. Eric Adams, who seems certain to be elected mayor next month, wants to expand rather than contract gifted and talented programs. There's an argument that testing at age 5 is just too early. But the proposal is an example of a destructive mindset that is at work far beyond the five boroughs of New York. San Francisco abolished the long-standing exam-based entry program for Lowell High School last February. Fairfax County in Northern Virginia has proposed ending exam-based entry to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, often rated No. 1 in the country by U.S. News & World Report.

The complaint in each case is one that could be described as racist: too many Asians. It echoes the complaint of Ivy League colleges a century ago: too many Jews. Both cases involve large numbers of sons and daughters of low-income immigrants showing the intellectual capacity and personal discipline to work their way up in society, to the great benefit of the nation as a whole.

A century ago, public schools and colleges in New York and other great cities provided such an avenue upward. Now, progressives like de Blasio want to close that avenue off for thousands of talented young people.

That's an act of destruction akin to tearing down statues of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Keeping it open and opening up more such avenues is part of the work of restoring the best American traditions.

The de Blasio mindset is opposed to those traditions. It assumes, as critical race theory teaches and oft-quoted commentators such as Ibram X. Kendi argue, that any underrepresentation of Black and Hispanic people is "segregation" and "racist." It wants to advance corrosive creeds such as critical race theory and to close off upward mobility to the racially unworthy.

Interestingly, there's polling showing that such assumptions are shared more by white college graduates than by Black or Hispanic people. And in New York's Democratic primary, Adams trailed among college-educated white voters but won Black voters by a huge margin.

Another assumption behind the de Blasio impulse is that the liberals in charge of educational systems and teacher unions, who are hostile to gifted and talented programs, have special expertise to which ordinary citizens must bow.

That assumption was on display in the Virginia governor debate when Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who is seeking a second nonconsecutive term, said, "I don't think parents should be telling schools what they should teach."

Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin has been running ads with McAuliffe's statement -- not surprisingly, since a Virginia poll on who should "have more influence in the school's curriculum" shows 52% of voters saying parents and only 33% saying school boards. Youngkin has also been critical of the abolition of exam-based entry at Thomas Jefferson High School and the critical race theory curriculum in nearby exurban Loudoun County.

Vehement protests at school board meetings there may have prompted the astonishing proposal by Attorney General Merrick Garland directing the FBI to monitor what the National Association of School Boards described as "the equivalent to a form of domestic terrorism" at such meetings. Garland issued the order without evidence that local law enforcement was unable to deal with any problems, and despite the fact that his son-in-law has a profitable business selling materials on systemic racism, white supremacy and implicit bias to local school boards.

De Blasio will be out of office soon, but the de Blasio mindset, bent on advancing bogus theories of systemic racism and opposing programs providing upward mobility for talented students, seems to be lingering on.

Can the next amdin just reverse all this lunacy?

Will take either a federal law banning these mandates or the Supreme Court striking them down.

De Blasio's going to get people killed': 45% of firefighters and 27% of cops have NOT yet had vaccine and face unpaid leave on Friday when mayor's mandate kicks in as trash piles up due to protest by sanitation workers who don't want jab

New York could be left with a serious shortage of firefighters, sanitation workers and cops from Friday - the deadline for Mayor de Blasio's vaccine mandate.

The NYPD, NYFD and the city sanitation department have warned New Yorkers to brace for slow emergency response times, nearly 40 percent of the city's firehouses having to close down, and mountains of garbage piling up on sidewalks.

A last legal bid by the NYPD's largest union to prevent de Blasio's vaccine mandate was shot down by Staten Island's Richmond County Supreme Court Judge Lizette Colon on Wednesday.
