The Good Brothers Weider
« on: February 09, 2006, 08:46:56 AM »
...just wondering, does anybody have any stories about the GOOD that Joe and Ben have done for bodybuilding?

I can't say I've read one good thing about them here on this website.

So for the sake of Goodness, let's hear some tales where Joe or Ben showed what great guys they are, were.

Anybody?

they got rid of the talent and congeniality portions of bodybuildng competitions.

In the AAU, points were awarded for athletic ability outside of bodybuilding.  A spoken interview was part of the judging process as well.  Points were awarded for speaking ability and moral character.  Therefore the biggest guys didn't always win.

The Weiders said "enter our contests, we'll only judge you on your muscles."

No wonder Sergio never could win the overall AAU Mr. America.

They generously allowed Yates, Haney, Zane, Columbu & Dickerson to win many more times than deserved.

Kept "lesser" riff-raff like Robinson, Fox & Padilla from winning! Good work uncle Joe!

Wow, not a landslide of positivity for the bros.  You have to wonder when there's that much hating going on and VERY little positivity....I call it jealousy and hating, but that's besides the point.

Plus, I always thought that Bob Kennedy was the proponent of the pre-exhaust principle...isn't that how it goes, the Weiders find a 'new' technique and then re-name it for themselves?

Anyway, it's a bit telling here how much bullshit is written about the Weiders.  Take it for what it's worth.  Nobody wants to hear good news.

It's not that I'm such a Weider hater. I just feel like they never gave
anything back  to an enterprise that made them so much money.
They let the youth slip through their fingers and didn't encourage
our really young people to train. They became obsessed with gouging
promoters, taking more than their fair share of any shows profits,
and did nothing to assist promoters in marketing their events.
Add to this the fact that they treated most of the people competing
with indifference and you have a scenario where not much in the
way of positive feedback is going to be heard.

Well I'm still waiting for some positive news about the Weiders to be put forth.

CAN'T ANYONE HERE COME UP WITH anything, like a "Good ol Joe" story?

I feel you, Clyde......

however, those Weiders have perverted the "sport".

They monopolized and profited off the raping and pillaging of so many  young aspiring bodybuilders.

Arnold was the golden boy, but how many other examples are there?

He's the exception to the rule.

The Weiders are the evil empire.

The extreme form of capitalism practiced in the US doesn't inspire altruism amongst ownership. That's why I prefer capitalism imbued with touches of socialism as seen elsewhere, as a counterweight against the extremism encouraged here in the good ole US of A.

Precious little or societal pressure on those with money to share. Winning is all; every man for himself. George Bush heartily approves.
