lurie and weider were actually partners early on weider did the magazines lurie handled the production and shipping of barbells till they had a falling out. chronicled in dan lurie's book heart of steel.

hoffman was pretty predjudiced to say the least and was heard to say he only wanted white mr america's which held true till chris dickerson became the jackie robinson of bodybuilding. he didn't like bodybuilding that much and pushed the weightlifting, having the bodybuilding contest take place only after all the lifting was done. he eventually got sick of the whole iron scene and during his last years was enamoured with softball.

they had there uses but not the magic that hoffman promoted his iso-rack to be.

well you know what Funky as a kid i had an air pump for blowing up an air matress, taped the nozzle so the air came out slower and i pumped this thing non stop and i got results..not really Isometrics but Isotonics. still i remember seeing small "wings" in the mirror from my efforts ..lol. Later i had a Bullworker and curled an old rusty iron bar...great memories.

both weider and lurie have books out. it seemed everbody and their brother sued lurie at the advice of joe weider most sucessfully.ferrigno , arnold sergio etc etc.

hi Funk, probably the wrong thread, but a kid named Zane Watson won his class at the canadian nationals this year, and being that he was born about the time that Frank Zane was mr. O, i wondered if he is Mike's son. do you know if he is?

don't really know but i see a facial rsemblance between the two. mike watson trained at dewey "the missing link"robertsons' gym.naming the kid zane would make sense.

this 1977 mr. Canada looks like Reid Schindle, Roy Callender and Henry Caulker. both Reid and Henry ended up gym owners, and we all know where Roy Callender headed.

that's the one a lot of big name canadian bbers were in this contest including roy hilligen making a comeback. jean leblanc, ray bieulieu,mike watson. terry o'neill. roy callender and leo robert were probably two of the greatest canadaian body builders.next tier probably names like steve breibois,dennis gathier, conrad lambroise. nimrod king???

i thought that guy was named Ron Magnum and they listed him as Ron Mangum for that show. i'll have to dig out that issue as well

yes, that was quite the show George Snyder put on. many of the amateurs became pro, or were some of the highest ranking amateurs of the decade. Kemper, len Archambalt, ulf Bengsten(?) tony Pandolfo etc

george snyder is still around saw him at a local show about 4 years ago. he and rick wayne put out the 3 more reps series of books.

snyder owned the olympus gym chain , there was one in allentown for a month or so and then they broke the franchise and renamed it the olympic fitness center, and than the 19 th st fitness center, now it's gone.
