Title: Ronnie Coleman at the Chess World Championships
Post by: #1 Klaus fan on April 25, 2010, 11:34:31 AM
 :D

I was reading this chess forum, and about the first of the 2010 world championship games that just happened. And who did I see? He was with good crowd.  ;) I'm sure they could appreciate it.

Ronnie doesn't look that bad (for a retired competitor). Did he say anything about the "comeback" he is planning?

Bigger crowds at a chess tourney than any of the alleged big name bb events.

No thumbs up pics..  No fanny packs..

Is Ronnie into chess, or did they get just as publicity stunt to hype it up?
I knew some dudes from NYC and Washington DC that were really into chess, you wouldn't know it, they looked like "thugs"...

LOL. Ronnie's an aggressive player. Always goes with the Sicilian Defence. Not many people know that.

Ronnie was supposed to conduct a seminar- " Defending against the Queens gambit while oiled up and wearing a thong"

i used to play quite a bit of chess years ago....older brother won a national title and i won the state titles several times.  we competed in the "world open" where the best players in the world meet to play.  was a fun experience, and we did okay.

got burnt out on it though requires a lot of time.  one game could last up to 8 hrs sometimes at the tournies.  a normal game was 1-4 hrs.

Jesus Christ 1-4 hours? Ever heard of playing with a clock? I don't have the attention span to play anything besides blitz chess.

ha ha ha...I play competitively every week, if its a home fixture I go to the gym an hour and a half before and try do as heavy a chest session as I can...I have no idea what it does, but I seem to play better with a post workout pump. Its also quite funny knowing that I'm the only person in there who has that varied a life, seeing as the rest of the players are all old men or 15 y/o chinese kids.

Actually, there's a quote by John Hotten in his book "Muscle" which actually links chess and bodybuilding. I can't remember the quote exactly, but it referred to a position in chess called "zugzwang" a German word which means you will lose whatever move you make. John Hotten compared it to the death of Andreas Munzer, who was basically screwed by going down the path of experimenting with so many bodybuilding drugs.
