If you think it assists with injury prevention and lifting more I can see your point.  For me I think it was just psychological and in the end offered no benefit.

I felt that way for most of the time I trained, and it could be the case still.

I just use as a safeguard on the heavier stuff.  I can comfortably rep 315 or less without it on deadlifts, but it gives me comfort when I go above it now.

What I do find useful is using wrist straps especially on 1 arm DB rows on the last set.
I used them when I used to do bent legged Deadlifts when using a heavier weight.
I'm sure a belt does help especially if you've had a history of lower back problems...I mean why risk it?

I refuse to use straps on deadlifts because I just feel for this exercise you either lift the weight or you don't.

For RDLs, SLDs, DB rows, though, I can see using them.

I use them on RDL's because I want to use a double overhand grip, and I can't hold that kind of weight like that.

I use an overhand grip on stiff legged deadlifts & I also did on bent legged deads.
I have honestly small hands & with a decent weight I struggle to really tax my back.
Straps are useful for me
