So I just got a call from the doctor's office.  Apparently the tech who called me misspoke - my XRay was normal.

My MRI, however, showed a Grade 1 strain of the rectus femoris....and a partial tear of my IT band.......

So I'm going to book a PT session ASAP to see what my options are or if I'm fucked for this.

I know, believe me.

I have a meeting with a Physical Therapist tomorrow - I will follow their advice.  If it turns out to be bad news, I'm paying for your next one that I will switch to.  For real.

Had PT Friday....he has told me he will evaluate me over the next week to see what he believes should happen.

20th day in a row with no run/ruck/leg work.

That's how I view it.  If I get the "OK", I just need to amp my ruck back up to 12 in 3 hours, and then suck it up for the event.  Not ideal, but oh well.

Just need the OK from the PT to start.  The last thing I want to do is be in a constant state of injury.

I'm always trying to find what works best for me as everyone is different.  I tend to retain muscle and fat easily so focusing on solely strength training only serves to increase areas of strength for me at the expense of other things.  Hell for most of my life I was a typical BB meathead type who had next to no other abilities or endurance and stamina for physical activities.  That was cool for the times - but things change as you get older and your body matures.  Metabolism is different, interests are different, goals are different, etc.    Additionally - hitting the big 40 this year so injury avoidance and prevention is HUGE for me now.    WhAt good does it do me going for a massive 1rm at this point?

So I try to focus on overall conditioning that allows me to do the things I want to do, not get injured, "stay in the game" if you will, be capable of hanging w most of the younger guys, etc.

And then you have me who  tears his IT band on a fucking BODYWEIGHT lunge....(although it might have been missing a stair on NYE the following week, which is even worse)

I wear compression sleeves on my calves.  And compression shorts.  This is right up under the hip bone.

I still highly advise you do a Light or Challenge first - just saying.  Heavy is a gigantic kick in the balls and despite doing 3 I still am like "WTF am I doing?" over this

Given my current state, that's impossible at this point.
