UFC 98 Salaries
« on: May 26, 2009, 04:20:25 PM »
Sherdog received the disclosed salary information for last weekend's UFC 98 from the NSAC, and it pans out as follows:

Lyoto Machida -- $200,000 (including $70,000 win bonus, $60,000 knockout bonus) def. Rashad Evans -- $200,000

Matt Hughes -- $260,000 (including $100,000 win bonus, $60,000 fight of night bonus) def. Matt Serra -- $135,000 (including $60,000 fight of night bonus)

Drew McFedries -- $34,000 (including $17,000 win bonus) def. Xavier Foupa-Pokam -- $6,000

Chael Sonnen -- $50,000 (including $25,000 win bonus) def. Dan Miller -- $15,000

Frankie Edgar -- $40,000 (including $20,000 win bonus) def. Sean Sherk -- $40,000

Brock Larson -- $102,000 (including $21,000 win bonus, $60,000 submission bonus) def. Mike Pyle -- $15,000

Tim Hague -- $10,000 (including $5,000 win bonus) def. Patrick Barry -- $7,000

Kyle Bradley -- $8,000 (including $5,000 win bonus) def. Phillipe Nover -- $10,000

Krzysztof Soszynski -- $16,000 (including $8,000 win bonus) def. Andre Gusmao -- $5,000

Yoshiyuki Yoshida -- $16,000 (including $8,000 win bonus) def. Brandon Wolff -- $3,000

George Roop -- $16,000 (including $8,000 win bonus) def. David Kaplan -- $8,000

A few thoughts:

Brock Larson has to be pretty pleased with himself, having gone from an uncertain future after the dissolution of the WEC's heavier weight classes, to now pocketing over $100K in one night and getting his fight shown on the PPV as well.

Matt Serra and Dan Miller both got laid-upon for 3 rounds, but Miller took significantly more abuse and only roped in $15,000 for his efforts, while Serra managed to tack on a $60,000 fight-of-the-night bonus to his $70,000 base salary.

Interestingly enough, Serra and Lyoto Machida had the same $70,000 base salary, but it seems likely that the Brazilian will be commanding a steeper price in his first title defense.

Rashad's base pay is twice that of Hughes?  That's a bit of a surprise.

Drew McFedries also did pretty well for himself, earning himself a $17,000 base salary and twice that in total for his TKO win over Professor X...not bad considering that he would have likely been out of the UFC if he lost.

Andre Gusmao can't be happy with himself...not only did he move to 0-2 in the UFC while on the receiving end of a Krysztof Soszynski KO, but he also made less than Dave "I can't be knocked out" Kaplan of all people.
