Title: $87 Million Weekend Tally for WOLVERINE
Post by: Bodybuilding Related on April 15, 2009, 07:37:10 PM
http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2009-05-03-boxoffice04_N.htm

There were no doubts that X-Men Origins: Wolverine, among the most anticipated movies of the year, would open at No. 1.
The only question was: How big?

The fourth movie in the X-Men franchise took in an estimated $87 million, surpassing studio expectations of $70 million but falling short of last year's summer-season opener: Iron Man, which opened with a $98.6 million. Both films entered the first weekend in May with virtually identical Friday showings. Wolverine took in $35 million on 4,099 locations, while Iron Man lured $35.2 million.

Wolverine's number is the second-highest opening of the X-Men franchise, behind 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, which made its debut on a Memorial Day holiday weekend with $102 million.

"We sweated this one out," says Chris Aronson, senior vice president of distributor 20th Century Fox. "But the exit polls are terrific, with nearly half the audience saying it's better than they had expected. It really comes back to Hugh (Jackman). I think audiences have a tremendous appetite for both Hugh and his character, Wolverine, that he really created."

Saw the movie. As a life-long comic book fan, Fox took a squat over two of my favorite characters and just sprayed swine flu infested diarrhea all over them. Speaking of Wolverine and Deadpool. Honestly though, if knew nothing about the comics it would have been fun though, with a sprinkle of retard thrown in. Like....how they have Wolverine lose his memory. What the hell.

Also, the guy that played Sabretooth did a great job honestly. So much better than the pro wrestler in X1. Hugh Jackman does a good wolverine too. /end Nerd rant.

I have to disagree. They actually got a decent actor to get his persona down instead of a guy that grunts and stares like in X1. There aren't that many actors big as a shit brickhouse and ripped to shreds that could play Victor Creed worth a damn. Also, that wolvie pic that is photoshopped is just plain creepy.

In the comics, Wolverine is actually only 5'2" or 5'3"

5'3 :P They snuck in a "runt" comment near the beginning.

I wonder what it would be like having wolverine's healing factor and being a bodybuilder....

Not a big surprise, that one - Wolverine's pirated "work print" copy has been circulating all the hackers / warez sites for nearly 2 months now and like in the case of "The chronicles of Riddick", I'm pretty sure that played a big part in why it made a lot less than anticipated.

As far as the acting it was better than expected.  Hugh Jackman was perfect for this role, I respect how he has actually taken it seriously.

The special effects sucked...I'm so tired of crappy CGI, if you are going to put it in at least make look halfway decent.

Sabretooth's "gallop" looked shitty as well.

I also agree with the Deadpool comment...total copout.

Gambit...again, copout with his character.

I thought it was just "OK".

I'm hoping the new Terminator and Transformers will be good.
