GOOD LUCK RICHARD SMART MAN ......

He is smart, with the type of physiques the IFBB is rewarding ie Jay Cutler and Ronnie.. There's no point.. The IFBB needs to be revamped..

Richard Jones had great potential to become a top athlete after he won the USAs in 2003, and then placed 3rd at the 2004 Night of Champions. But after a dismal 18th place later that year at the Olympia, that was it.

His choice. Changed careers, went back to the university to get a degree, much props to that, but he will be missed.

Good luck Rich.  I had the pleasure of having him stop in my restaurant the evening before the night of champions.  I was impressed with his kindness.  He was definately the best-spoken pro i've ever had a conversation with.

Roddy Piper wrote in his book about "the sickness," where guys become addicted to the spotlight, and run their bodies into the ground chasing that last bit of glory.  Props to Jones for avoiding "the sickness" and moving on.

The next few years is the perfect opportunity to change things - ronnie will soon be gone - jay has said hes only gonna do another couple yrs from what i have heard - they could take it back to where it was in the 90's, awarding aesthtics aswell as size - - but will they - i doubt it  :-[. They will now be on the lookout for the next monster to crown Mr O

I loved the package he brought.  Probably top 1-3 physiques I'd like to have.

On the BFTO 04' he at least showed some personality, contrary to most of the others.

This pisses me off.  He came in at the wrong time.

Good luck Richard!  You will be missed!

Although I love bodybuilding, it's just not the same anymore. In retrospect, after the 2004 Mr. Olympia, just merely competing at the event fulfilled much more than I ever hoped for.

So walking away was really no big deal to me. After all, I walked away with my health and lots of pride for what I had already accomplished and that means more to me than a potential first place award somewhere down the road. I don't and haven't been keeping up with the current events of the whole bodybuilding world due to my other passions and obligations.

But you have heard it from me. I have officially retired from competitive bodybuilding.

Sincerely,

Richard Jones

When an incredible physique like this walks away from the sport and states "HEALTH" as one of his reasons, we all need to think about the absurd drug use and freak standard.

Bodybuilding is really nothing more than lifting weights.   It should be used to train for legitimate sports.   It's as boring, as watching water boil.....

The public is confused when we just flex our muscles on stage...they quickly wonder "Whats the use of these muscles, can you use them for function?"???

All you kids out there, save yourself and use the weights as a tool to get somewhere worth getting to.   (football, swimmimg, soccer, gymnastics...etc.

Today's professional bodybuilding is nothing but a freak show full of wackos and weirdos (with the exception of a few). There's not a lot of money to be made, and everybody sacrafices so much health. The few who refuse to trade health for success, get beat by drug-abusing mass monsters with pregnant stomachs. If i was RJ, i'd quit too.
