Desperate New York City Mayor Eric Adams has pleaded with a judge to end the city's longstanding 'right to shelter' law as he struggles to house more than 122,000 migrants who have flooded the Big Apple since last year.

Adams, 63, sent a letter Tuesday evening urging a judge to dismiss the city's legal obligation to provide shelter to adults, claiming the 1981 law should be void in a state of emergency.

The letter, sent to New York Supreme Court justice Erika Edwards, warned that the huge influx 'shows no signs of abating', while citing a staggering 159 percent increase in the number of people in the city's care since April 2022.

As he scrambles for solutions, Adams travelled south of the border on Wednesday in an attempt to deter migrants from moving to New York City after entering the US.

Adams' anguish over the situation is a stark contrast to his previous public posturing over migrants, where he claimed only a year ago that he was 'proud' to house asylum seekers as he vowed to 'continue to do that.'

However, the embattled mayor's letter faced quick backlash from homeless advocacy groups who claimed that the move would 'gut' rights offered to homeless people.

The former police officer has seen his time in office plagued by the migrant crisis, as he claimed in his letter that 'New York City has done more than any other city in the last 18 months to meet this national humanitarian crisis.'

In a statement alongside the letter, Adams added: 'With more than 122,700 asylum seekers having come through our intake system since the spring of 2022, and projected costs of over $12 billion for three years, it is abundantly clear that the status quo cannot continue.'

New York City officials (Eric Adams) have discussed handing tents to newly arrived migrants and housing them in encampments in parks, according to a report.

The city has already erected large tents to shelter asylum seekers but this new proposal would be more like a campsite, sources told The Wall Street Journal.

The report comes after Mayor Eric Adams yesterday said 'everything is on the table' when asked whether his plans to shelter migrants would extend to Manhattan's iconic Central Park.

Adams has said the city has run out of hotel rooms and indoor sites to house the 65,000 migrants that remain in its care after 120,000 arrived in the last 18 months.

It comes as a poll published this week found that a majority of New Yorkers agreed with Adams' own words earlier this year that the migrant crisis will 'destroy the city.'

Adams again issued a grave warning during a press conference on Tuesday, saying he is looking for large outdoor spaces to house migrants and people are going to start seeing 'the visual signs of this crisis in our city.'

He continued: 'It’s not "if" people will be sleeping on the streets, it’s when. We are at full capacity. We have to sort of localize it as much as possible. We have to make sure that people have some type of restroom facilities, some type of shower network.'

In New York, they're getting diversity of morals all right, and lots of migrant cultural enrichment, too, while we're at it.

According to the New York Post, which did some authentic street reporting on the impact of 2,000 illegal migrants in Brooklyn's Floyd Bennett Field:

Since mid-November, new lawlessness has plagued the area, with shoplifting, panhandling, gutter scams, and, according to some, signs of street prostitution.

And the once-serene, federally-run site — a historic former airfield off Flatbush Avenue near the Marine Parkway Bridge — has itself become an eyesore, where vicious brawls and pot-puffing are common, those living there said.

“This sh-t is out of control,” said a 20-year veteran NYPD cop when asked about the migrants at Floyd Bennett Field, a fraction of the 164,000 illegal border crossers bused to New York since spring 2022 — and 68,000 currently in the city’s care.

“That’s all these people do is rob and steal. They should feel lucky that they’re here, but they’re out there committing crimes. We don’t know anything about them. We don’t know what they’ve done in these other countries.”

They found hard police data to support the sentiment they found from the angry locals:

NYPD records from Nov. 27 through Jan. 7 show upticks in car thefts (37.5%), robberies (29.4%), and petit larceny (8.2%) in the 63rd Precinct, which covers the neighborhoods near Floyd Bennett Field, compared to the same period a year earlier.

It's important to note that high as those figures are, they are very likely underreported, as nothing is being done to stop migrant crime.

The kind of migrant crime coming in is pretty spectacular, of the kind that you see in the hillside shantytowns of Caracas or Medellin.

The number of homeless people in New York City’s shelter system skyrocketed 53% over the past year — driven by the unrelenting surge of migrants, according to Mayor Eric Adams’s preliminary management report released Tuesday. The report compares data and performance of city agencies for the first four months of the fiscal year — July through October of 2023 — with the same period in 2022. “During the first four months of Fiscal 2024, the average number of individuals in shelter per day increased by 53 percent compared to the same period in Fiscal 2023, driven by the unprecedented increase in entrants, primarily asylum seekers who made up over half of all entrants during the period,” the Department of Homeless Services said its quarterly assessment of its shelter system included in the 432-page report.

NYC to offer migrants $53M in pre-paid credit cards, report says

NEW YORK CITY (TND) — New York City will offer its surging migrant population $53 million worth of pre-paid credit cards, the New York Post reported.

The initiative of the office of Mayor Eric Adams and Mobility Capital Finance aims to assist migrants with food expenses as they await authorization to work from the federal government. Cards will only work at bodegas, grocery stores, supermarkets and convenience stores.

Recipients must sign an affidavit swearing to use the funds only for food and baby supplies or risk being removed from the program. Cards will be loaded with different amounts depending on the size of a family and whether they have income. A family of four could receive $1,000 monthly or $35 per day. Cards will be refilled every 28 days.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) on Monday shared a horrifying video showing the moment migrants on a moped dragged a woman along a New York City street and stole her phone.

As The New York Post reported, these thugs are members of a Venezuelan moped-riding crew that has been stealing phones from female New Yorkers’ hands in audacious instances of street crimes. Two have been apprehended so far, but several remain at large.

The sick footage shows a moped carrying three riders coming out of an adjacent alley and dragging a woman. The footage ends with her crashing into a small pole.

They then reportedly steal her phone.

19-year-old Cleyber Andrade and 23-year-old Juan Uzcatgu were arrested by the NYPD after the incident. This followed them participating in a crime spree with other members where they stole wallets and cellphones from at least 62 women across the city’s seven boroughs.
