Title: Trumpy's Crime Cronies
Post by: LurkerNoMore on August 15, 2023, 09:55:40 AM
It's like a grab-bag of scum-bags.

The list of 30 who didn't get indicted is going to be exciting.

---
Donald Trump and 18 other associates were charged Monday in Georgia as part of a sweeping indictment alleging they schemed to illegally overturn his 2020 election loss and stop the peaceful transition of power.

The indictment, brought by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, follows an investigation that lasted more than two years and marks the fourth criminal case brought against the former president.

Those charged in Monday’s indictment face a slew of charges, including racketeering, violating the oath of a public officer, forgery, false statements and other offenses. Prosecutors say they must all surrender to authorities by Aug. 25.

Here’s a look at the 19 defendants charged in the indictment:

DONALD TRUMP: Then-President Donald Trump fixated on Georgia after the 2020 general election, refusing to accept his narrow loss in the state and making unfounded assertions of widespread election fraud there. He also called top state officials, including Gov. Brian Kemp, to urge them to find a way to reverse his loss in the state. In a Jan. 2, 2021, phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, Trump suggested the state’s top elections official could help “find” the votes needed for him to win the state. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis opened an investigation into possible illegal attempts to influence the election shortly after a recording of that call was made public.

RUDY GIULIANI: During several legislative hearings at the Georgia Capitol in December 2020, the former New York mayor and Trump attorney promoted unsupported allegations of widespread election fraud in Georgia. Prosecutors have said Rudy Giuliani was also involved a plan to have 16 Georgia Republicans serve as fake electors, falsely swearing that Trump had won the 2020 presidential election and declaring themselves the state’s “duly elected and qualified” electors.

JOHN EASTMAN: A former dean of Chapman University law school in Southern California, John Eastman, one of Trump’s lawyers, was deeply involved in some of his efforts to remain in power after the 2020 election. He wrote a memo arguing that Trump could remain in power if then-Vice President Mike Pence overturned the results of the election during a joint session of Congress where electoral votes would be counted. That plan included putting in place a slate of “alternate” electors in seven battleground states, including Georgia, who would falsely certify that Trump had won their states.

MARK MEADOWS: Trump’s chief of staff visited Cobb County, in the Atlanta suburbs, while state investigators were conducting an audit of the signatures on absentee ballot envelopes in December 2020. Mark Meadows obtained the phone number of the chief investigator for the secretary of state’s office, Frances Watson, and passed it along to Trump, who called her. He also participated in the Jan. 2, 2021, phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

SIDNEY POWELL: A lawyer and staunch Trump ally, Sidney Powell was part of a group who met at the South Carolina home of conservative attorney Lin Wood in November 2020 “for the purpose of exploring options to influence the results of the November 2020 elections in Georgia and elsewhere,” prosecutors have said. Wood, who’s licensed in Georgia, said Powell asked him to help find Georgia residents to serve as plaintiffs in lawsuits contesting the state’s election results. Additionally, emails and documents obtained through subpoenas in an unrelated lawsuit have shown that Powell was involved in arranging for a computer forensics team to travel to rural Coffee County, about 200 miles southeast of Atlanta, to copy data and software from elections equipment there in January 2021.

KENNETH CHESEBRO: Prosecutors have said Kenneth Chesebro, an attorney, worked with Georgia Republicans in the weeks after the November 2020 election at the direction of Trump’s campaign. Chesebro worked on the coordination and execution of a plan to have 16 Georgia Republicans sign a certificate declaring falsely that Trump won and declaring themselves the state’s “duly elected and qualified” electors.

JEFFREY CLARK: A U.S. Justice Department official who championed Trump’s false claims of election fraud, Jeffrey Clark presented colleagues with a draft letter pushing Georgia officials to convene a special legislative session on the election results, according to testimony before the U.S. House committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Clark wanted the letter sent, but Justice Department superiors refused.

JENNA ELLIS: The lawyer appeared with Rudy Giuliani at a Dec. 3, 2020, hearing hosted by state Republican lawmakers at the Georgia Capitol during which false allegations of election fraud were made. Jenna Ellis also wrote at least two legal memos to Trump and his attorneys advising that Pence should “disregard certified electoral college votes from Georgia and other purportedly ‘contested’ states” when Congress met to certify the election results on Jan. 6, 2021, prosecutors have said.

RAY SMITH: A Georgia-based lawyer, Ray Smith was involved in multiple lawsuits challenging the results of the 2020 election in Georgia. He also gathered witnesses to provide testimony before Georgia legislative subcommittee hearings held in December 2020 on alleged issues with the state’s election.

ROBERT CHEELEY: A Georgia lawyer, Robert Cheeley presented video clips to legislators of election workers at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta and alleged the workers were counting votes twice or sometimes three times. He spoke to the lawmakers after Giuliani.

MICHAEL ROMAN: A former White House aide who served as the director of Trump’s election day operations, Michael Roman was involved in efforts to put forth a set of fake electors after the 2020 election.

DAVID SHAFER: The chairman of the Georgia GOP, Shafer was one of 16 state Republicans who met at the state Capitol on Dec. 14, 2020, to sign a certificate declaring falsely that Trump had won and also declaring themselves the state’s “duly elected and qualified” electors. He also joined Trump in a lawsuit challenging the certification of the 2020 election in Georgia.

SHAWN STILL: He was one of 16 Georgia Republicans who signed a certificate falsely stating that Trump had won the state and declaring themselves the state’s “duly elected and qualified” electors. Shawn Still was the finance chairman for the state GOP in 2020 and served as a Georgia delegate to the Republican National Convention that year. He was elected to the Georgia state Senate in November 2022 and represents a district in Atlanta’s suburbs.

STEPHEN CLIFFGARD LEE: Prosecutors say Stephen Cliffgard Lee, a pastor, worked with others to try to pressure Georgia election worker Ruby Freeman and her daughter after Trump and his allies falsely accused them of pulling fraudulent ballots from a suitcase during the vote count. Lee allegedly knocked on Freeman’s door, frightening her and causing her to call 911 three times, prosecutors said in a court filing last year.

HARRISON WILLIAM PRESCOTT FLOYD: Also known as Willie Lewis Floyd III, he served as director of Black Voices for Trump, and is accused of recruiting Lee to arrange a meeting with Freeman and Chicago-based publicist Trevian Kutti.

TREVIAN C. KUTTI: Prosecutors allege publicist Trevian C. Kutti claimed to have high level law enforcement connections. They say Freeman met with Kutti at a police precinct, where she brought Floyd into the conversation on a speakerphone. Prosecutors say Kutti presented herself as someone who could help Freeman but then pressured her to falsely confess to election fraud.

CATHY LATHAM: One of 16 Georgia Republicans who signed a certificate falsely stating that Trump had won the state and declaring themselves the state’s “duly elected and qualified” electors, Cathy Latham was also chair of the Coffee County Republican Party. She was at the county elections office for much of the day on Jan. 7, 2021, and welcomed a computer forensics team that arrived to copy software and data from the county’s election equipment in what the secretary of state’s office has said was “unauthorized access” to the machines.

SCOTT GRAHAM HALL: An Atlanta-area bail bondsman, Scott Graham Hall was allegedly involved in commandeering voting information that was the property of Dominion Voting Systems from Coffee County, a small south Georgia jurisdiction. Also charged in the scheme were Powell, Latham and former county elections supervisor Misty Hampton.

MISTY HAMPTON: She was the elections director in Coffee County. Misty Hampton was present in the county elections office on Jan. 7, 2021, when a computer forensics team copied software and data from the county’s election equipment. She also allowed two other men who had been active in efforts to question the 2020 election results to access the elections office later that month and to spend hours inside with the equipment.

___

Corrects Stephen Cliffgard Lee entry to reflect that he is accused of trying to pressure Ruby Freeman and her daughter, not Freeman’s mother.

No one wants to comment?  No denial?  No distraction?  Deflection, TDfS, off topic replies or TV static?

If you don't see it, it will just go away right?  The biggest political news story in modern times with a former POTUS getting absolutely slammed with 4 indictments, 80+ felonies, and numerous cronies going down with him.  And what do you guys talk about?  Gay Obama fantasies.  Old, fat and using a cane being an excuse for skipping the consequences of pointing a gun at federal agents, and election deniers.   ::)  Which is exactly why someone has 80+ felonies against him.

It's ok.  We all know you are just keeping quiet because there really is nothing that you can post to refute this.   :'(

It's going to be great watching him lie, and incriminate himself even more.

Trump Announces Plans to Finally Go Ahead and Prove Election Was Rigged
The former president says he will deliver a "CONCLUSIVE" report next Monday that should get everyone to drop all the charges

Meanwhile....   “The 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen,” he tweeted. “For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward—under oath—and prove anything in a court of law. Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor.”

Kemp’s tweet came about an hour after Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger also shut down Trump’s claims.

Trump's soapy soap opera gets more and more ridiculous with each passing day. Sadly, some people who have closed their eyes and ears to everything except what Trump tells them to believe and they keep tuning it in like it was real and true.

BTW, Trump is coming after you… your wallet that is.

It's going to be soooo hilarious.  At 11AM Monday we are going to see the equivalent of one of Qoach's threads blowing up in his face.   :D   It is going to be the same outcome.  It's so funny that after 2.5 years of an investigation, Trumpy waits until NOW to reveal a report (not proof or evidence) that will clear his name.   ::)

It's going to be hilarious to watch the little Trumpturds on here completely ignore the future threads laughing at him and fact checking his stupid ass.  Or do their usual deny, deflect, distract, TDfS, off topic replies and TV static.  Make sure you stay tuned because afterwards he will probably unveil his amazing healthcare plan, infrastructure plan, middle class tax cut,  the check from Mexico for the wall, and whatever else he can pull out of the Trapper Keeper notebook he shows up with.

Georgia GOP Gov. Brian Kemp rips Trump’s plan to "exonerate" himself with "conclusive" fraud report

Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp refuted Donald Trump's repeated election fraud claims after the former president teased the release of a "large, complex, detailed but irrefutable report" that he has baselessly claimed took place in Georgia during the 2020 election. Trump vowed to present the results at 11 am on Monday at his Bedminster, N.J., resort. "Based on the results of this CONCLUSIVE Report, all charges should be dropped against me… There will be a complete EXONERATION," Trump dubiously wrote on Truth Social.

"The 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen," Kemp responded on X, formerly Twitter. "For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward - under oath - and prove anything in a court of law. Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor. The future of our country is at stake in 2024 and that must be our focus." Kemp was one of the star witnesses in District Attorney Fani Willis' grand jury probe, along with Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. "The most basic principles of a strong democracy are accountability and respect for the Constitution and rule of law," Raffensperger said in a statement after the indictment. "You either have it, or you don't."

Yep, that’s right. It’s all bullshit. If they were so sure there was no voter and 2020 wasn’t stolen literally everything wouldn’t be going on. They are absolutely scared to death of this man not just for what he’s already exposed but what he keeps exposing and what else will be exposed when he gets back in.

On the other hand, with Biden and his “cronies” there’s a real legit case for treason but for right now, it’s easier to prove or should I say “proved” bribery.

What a meltdown.  Make sure you book your ticket to protest when he turns himself in next week.

One thing that Trumpturds simply can't answer.... Since 2020, almost all of Trump's attorneys have faced disciplinary hearings for making false statements in court and filing suits that they knew were frivolous. Most have been fined, and some are facing disbarment.

Rudy Giuliani has had his law license suspended (pending disbarment). Lin Wood surrendered his license rather than have it taken. John Eastman has disbarment proceedings underway in California. Giuliani admitted in court that his claims about Georgia election workers were lies.

So here's my question: If Trump has all this great, irrefutable evidence, then why aren't his lawyers using it to save themselves? If Trump's claims in GA were true, then why did Giuliani admit that they were not?

Set aside the 60 courts (including Trump's own nominees) that said he had nothing. Maybe they're all part of some huge conspiracy, like the cultists claim (hahahahahaha). Forget all that. Surely if a lawyer could save his career by proving he was right, he would.

Trumpturds have no answer for that.   :D

I - and pretty sure the other 18 criminals that are on his sinking ship - sure hope for everyone's sake that this is more substantive than the PillowGuy's presentation. The million dollar question is why didn't he present this irrefutable evidence to a court of law by now?  The simple answer is that what you hope, think, and/or want to happen is not evidence. In court you cannot draw a conclusion from your opinion.

The trials are going to be comedy gold!

And the suspicions keep mounting...    ;D

Reminder, not a single Democrat is set to testify against Trump.  So anytime a MAGAturd starts with the "political attack" or “deep state” or their other usual bullshit, they need to remember it’s all Republican witnesses, 86 Republican witnesses, the great majority of which Trump hired himself that provided the testimony and evidence.

https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=%27Sung+Like+A+Canary%27%3A+Ex-GOP+Lawmaker+Names+Trump+Insider+Who+Flipped

Former Rep. David Jolly (R-Fla.) said there’s one name Donald Trump needs to fear as the criminal cases against him move forward: Mark Meadows.

“I served with Mark Meadows. I know Mark Meadows,” Jolly told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace on Monday. “And I believe today that Mark Meadows has sung like a canary already.”

Meadows was Trump’s White House chief of staff for much of his final year in office, and was in that role as Trump worked feverishly to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Jolly said Meadows isn’t “somebody who wants to go to prison for Donald Trump.”

Meadows has been largely silent in public for months, was barely mentioned in the Jan. 6 indictment against Trump, and has reportedly delivered damaging information when questioned.

That’s led many to speculate that he’s flipped.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who is running against Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, said earlier this month that Meadows “has all the looks of a cooperating witness” and could deliver some of the “worst testimony” against the former president given how involved he was.

But Meadows was also among the 19 people indicted in the Georgia election interference case, which some believe is an indication to the contrary.

“I don’t think he’s flipped,” former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said on “This Week” on Sunday. “We have a situation in which he has been charged in the Georgia case and it’s unlikely that you’re charged and defendant in one case, but you flipped in a related case.”

Jolly disagrees.

“At the end of the day, what I truly, truly believe about Mark Meadows is he’s cooperating,” he said on MSNBC on Monday. “And he’s going to give up the president.”

John Eastman's bar trial resumes, a week after he was indicted with Trump and others
When John Eastman's trial before the California Bar Court began in June, professional ruin was his gravest immediate threat. Hoping to save his law license, the former advisor to Donald Trump spent days answering questions, defiantly defending his role in the chaotic aftermath of the 2020 election.

When his trial resumes Thursday after a two-month hiatus, Eastman will enter the downtown Los Angeles courtroom a more imperiled figure. Early this month he appeared, unnamed and uncharged, as “co-conspirator 2” in the federal indictment against Trump unveiled by special counsel Jack Smith.

Then came the sprawling racketeering indictment on Aug. 14 from Fulton County, Ga., charging Eastman and 18 others — including Trump and Rudy Giuliani — with election-related schemes.

“This changed the picture quite dramatically,” Randall Miller, Eastman’s attorney, told the bar court at a hearing last week. “We’re talking about his freedom. We have to operate on all levels with extreme caution here.”

With the possibility that his words may be used against him criminally in the Georgia case, Eastman will likely invoke his 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination in the bar trial. Miller asked that the hearing be suspended “until Dr. Eastman can be out of harm’s way” in the Georgia case, adding that the indictment also scared away two of Eastman’s expected bar witnesses.

“They are very terrified,” Miller said, and as a result Eastman would be denied “a robust and muscular defense.”

Eastman becomes the first to turn himself in.  Doubles down on the lie that landed him in this mess to start with.   ;D

---
While leaving the courthouse, Eastman reportedly resisted his attorney’s efforts to steer him away from an awaiting gaggle of reporters. Eastman then doubled down on the election lie used to justify the allegedly illegal effort to keep Trump in office, telling a reporter that there was “no question” in his mind that the 2020 election had been stolen from Donald Trump.

“I am confident that, when the law is faithfully applied in this proceeding, all of my co-defendants and I will be fully vindicated,” Eastman added in a statement he read to reporters.

My guess is Eastman and all the other indicted folk will plead insanity. To succeed, they must stick to their story until the bitter end. What the heck? It could work. It seems insane to me to continue to believe the election was stolen. I mean, just look at Coach, he still believes the election was stolen. Each day he gets a touch more insane, don’t you think?

An aide to former Vice President Mike Pence described former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows as the “ringleader” with much of the events that took place on Jan. 6, 2021. Marc Short, Pence's former chief of staff, said Meadows was “central” in efforts to overturn the 2020 election on Jan. 6.

Well that didn't work.   :D  Dumb criminals + dumb lawyers = GOOD TIMES.

If Meadows is going to argue that trying to overturn the Georgia vote was within the scope of his duties as a federal employee, then he's already admitted Hatch Act violation.  The only way he can escape Hatch Act violation is to say that his Georgia-related activities were not within the scope of his employment.  Perfect two-horned dilemma.  Willis recognized it.  Meadows and his attorneys did not.  Ever wonder why these federal hotshots keep getting outmaneuvered by a state district attorney?

---
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis laid out her case against former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows in a filing to a federal judge who shot down the ex-Trump aide's attempt to avoid arrest this week.

Willis' filing came after U.S. District Court Judge Steve Jones on Wednesday rejected Meadows' and former DOJ official Jeffrey Clark's bids to halt Fulton criminal proceedings, ensuring they will face arrest this week.

Meadows and Clark both filed to move their cases to federal court, arguing that they were acting under their official duties as federal officials and that they have immunity from charges stemming from those actions.

Jones, an Obama appointee, explained that a federal court cannot block their state-level arrest unless it "assumes jurisdiction over a state criminal case."

"The clear statutory language for removing a criminal prosecution … does not support an injunction or temporary stay prohibiting District Attorney Willis's enforcement or execution of the arrest warrant," Jones wrote, adding that defendants can even stand state trial while their motions to move the cases to federal court are pending.

Willis pushed back on Meadows' bid to halt his arrest, noting that even Trump himself "voluntarily agreed to surrender himself to state authorities, while other defendants have already surrendered."

Jones has set a hearing for Monday on Meadows' bid to move the case to federal court.

Willis in a 22-page filing on Wednesday rejected Meadows' claim that his efforts to help former President Donald Trump overturn his election loss were part of his official duties.

"He has demonstrated no basis for an objectively reasonable belief that his actions were necessary and proper to perform his duties while evidence demonstrates that he had personal or criminal motivations for acting," Willis wrote.

Meadows' attorneys argued in their filing that the Fulton case is "precisely the kind of state interference in a federal official's duties that the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution prohibits, and that the removal statute shields against."

But Willis argued that Meadows' "criminal intent" undercut his argument.

"Federal removal is designed to protect federal functions from State interference, but that was not a risk in 2020 or 2021 and is not a risk now," Willis wrote. "Instead, this case concerns attempts to interfere in State functions by federal officials without any authority of their own."

The filing argues that the charges against Meadows are specifically focused on actions he took outside of the scope of his job, including his attendance at a "clearly political" November 20, 2020 White House meeting with Michigan lawmakers in which Trump peppered them with false claims of election fraud. The next day, Meadows sought to connect Trump with two Pennsylvania lawmakers, which Willis said was also "clearly political activity."

Willis argued that these actions violated the Hatch Act, a federal law barring government employees from using their official roles to influence the outcome of an election.

Willis argued that Meadows' actions focused on the election results in Georgia, including his trip to observe Georgia's election audit on December 22, 2020 and subsequent request to a state official offering campaign funds to ensure the audit was completed by Jan. 6, 2021 were not part of his official duties.

"The defendant thus explicitly contacted a Georgia official on behalf of the Trump campaign, which is political activity prohibited by the Hatch Act," Willis wrote.

More than half of the 19 defendants have surrendered
Christopher Cicchiello

Eleven of the 19 defendants in the Georgia election case have now surrendered to authorities in Fulton County.

Here are the people who have already surrendered:

Kenneth Chesebro, former Trump campaign attorney
John Eastman, Trump-allied attorney
Jenna Ellis, one-time Trump attorney
Rudy Giuliani, former Trump attorney
Mark Meadows, former White House chief of staff (moving his case to D.C. didn't pan out and he didn't want a warrant issued for his arrest).
Harrison Floyd, former leader of Black Voices for Trump
Scott Hall, 2020 Fulton County Republican poll watcher
Cathy Latham, former leader of the Republican Party in Georgia’s Coffee County
Sidney Powell, former member of Trump’s legal team
David Shafer, fraudulent Republican elector
Ray Smith III, attorney
Trump has said he will surrender on Thursday. Here are his co-defendants who have not surrendered:

Robert Cheeley, Atlanta lawyer
Jeffrey Clark, former U.S. assistant attorney general
Misty Hampton, former Coffee County elections director
Trevian Kutti, former publicist for Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West
Stephen Lee, Lutheran pastor from Illinois
Michael Roman, former Trump staffer
Shawn Still, fraudulent Republican elector

It is interesting but not noteworthy. Is GOP Rep Jordan suggesting Fani Willis orchestrated the indictments and the fund-raising campaign all withing a four-day window? How long does it take to set up the indictment a 98-page indictment listing 19 defendants and 41 criminal counts? When were the members of the Grand Jury determining these indictments and charges selected and when did they begin the process? It is not like she pulled these folks names out of a hat and said let's indict these folks. Likewise, how long does it take to design and launch a fund-raising campaign?

Ex-prosecutor: Fani Willis’ strategy pays off as indicted fake electors “point the finger” at Trump
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Ex-prosecutor%3A+Fani+Willis%E2%80%99+strategy+pays+off+as+indicted+fake+electors+%E2%80%9Cpoint+the+finger%E2%80%9D+at+Trump

A Georgia Republican indicted alongside former President Donald Trump in the sprawling Fulton County racketeering case blamed Trump and his campaign for his role in the fake elector scheme.

State Sen. Shawn Still, the only Republican lawmaker indicted by a grand jury earlier this month, "as a presidential elector, was also acting at the direction of the incumbent president of the United States," his attorney Thomas Bever argued Thursday in a court filing flagged by Politico. "The president's attorneys instructed Mr. Still and the other contingent electors that they had to meet and cast their ballots on Dec. 14, 2020."

The filing came as Still, like several other defendants, seeks to move his case to federal court, arguing that he was acting under the direction of a federal officer — the incumbent president. The attorney also argued that he is immune from state prosecution under the Constitution's Supremacy Clause.

Still's filing echoes arguments made by fellow co-defendant and former Georgia GOP Chairman David Shafer, whose attorneys also said in a filing that he and other electors "acted at the direction of the incumbent President and other federal officials."

Still's attorney said in the filing that Shafer called a meeting of prospective electors at the Georgia Capitol building on December 14, 2020, where a Trump attorney told them it was necessary for them to meet to preserve the campaign's challenge of the election results in the state.

"Per the attorney's advice and under the belief that the contingent vote was necessary to preserve the right to lawfully contest the election, Mr. Still cast a contingent ballot in his capacity as a contingent presidential elector," the filing said.

Legal experts said that the developing dynamic was likely part of Willis' strategy when she charged Trump alongside 18 other defendants.

"One of the advantages of charging many defendants is that their defenses are often inconsistent. Willis had to expect that the fake electors would point the finger at Trump and his attorneys," tweeted former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti.

"When defendants start pointing fingers at each other, it usually spells trouble for the higher ups," agreed former U.S. Attorney Harry Litman, calling it an "increasingly dicey legal situation for Trump."

Shafer's attorneys similarly sought to move the case to federal court, arguing that he was acting at Trump's direction.

Want a daily wrap-up of all the news and commentary Salon has to offer? Subscribe to our morning newsletter, Crash Course.

"Attorneys for the President and Mr. Shafer specifically instructed Mr. Shafer, verbally and in writing, that the Republican electors' meeting and casting their ballots on December 14, 2020 was consistent with counsels' advice and was necessary to preserve the presidential election contest," his lawyers argued.

Georgia State Law Prof. Clark Cunningham told CNN on Wednesday that Shafer's argument "could be devastating for the former president."

"Shafer explicitly places the entire responsibility for the fake electoral scheme squarely on Donald Trump," he told the network. "He says, 'I was acting at his personal direction.' He does that because he's trying to get into federal court under a law that says even if you're not an officer of the United States, if you are acting under the officer's direction, you can get to federal court. He is making that statement to get to federal court, but at the same time implicating Trump directly in the fake elector scheme."

California judge denies Eastman request to postpone disbarment litigation

https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=California+judge+denies+Eastman+request+to+postpone+disbarment+litigation

Former attorney to former President Trump, John Eastman cannot postpone his California disbarment trial, a judge ruled Friday.

Eastman argued that his status as an unindicted co-conspirator in the federal election fraud case against Trump, and as a defendant in the sweeping Georgia election fraud racketeering case would complicate the disbarment hearing, as he could possibly incriminate himself.

The California bar is seeking to revoke Eastman’s law license for his alleged work spreading election fraud conspiracies and encouraging Georgia politicians to create a fraudulent alternate slate of Electoral College votes.

Judge Yvette Roland ruled that Eastman can’t get out of the disbarment, however, because he’s already started the proceedings. He sat for an eight-hour interview earlier in the trial and chose not to invoke his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination when discussing matters which are now part of criminal cases.

“It is firmly established that a witness cannot choose to testify willingly about a topic during a single legal proceeding and then later claim the right to remain silent under self-incrimination privilege when asked about specific subjects,” Roland wrote.

She also noted that Eastman has invoked his Fifth Amendment rights numerous times before, including during his interview with the House Jan. 6 Committee last year over the same conduct in question.

Roland further argued Eastman was already aware of the possibility that the conduct would be criminally investigated because he had been interviewed by the Georgia grand jury which eventually indicted him.

“[Eastman] was completely aware that he had potential criminal exposure for his actions surrounding the 2020 election, which is also the subject of the [disbarment case],” she wrote. “Yet, Respondent gave considerable testimony without ever invoking the Fifth Amendment and did not seek abatement until six days into trial.”

Roland said that normally a disbarment case would be paused due to criminal charges, but “unique circumstance” in this case, including Eastman’s hours of testimony, make that impossible.

Here’s a little insight, Junior.

No one and I mean NO ONE is afraid of this sham of a government. Not Trump, not his supporters, not me…NO ONE. So get that delusion out of that empty piece of real estate that Trump and me take up in your head.

You (and Trump) should be afraid... very, very afraid.

Meadows sure didn't resolve anything in regards to his case today.  The "doing it in my job capacity" just isn't going to cut it much longer.   It is going to come down to the fact that elections are run by the states and their elected officials NOT by the federal government or their elected/appointed officials.  Those electoral votes Trump wanted to "find" represented the voters of the State of Georgia and not voters of the federal government.

Unless he has flipped as many suspect - his fate is going to come down to RICO vs Hatch Act.

We could simply start with taxes. Do you not think being taxed repeatedly on the same money earned is abuse? If that doesn't do it, we could start with some declassified information showing the abuse of people by the cia...or you could google that stuff, you enjoy google things.

Can you provide some examples of what you believe constituted paying taxes multiple times on the same earned money (income)? For example, do you mean when you pay all of these on the same earned income; Federal income tax, State income tax, property tax, individual tax levies/assessments for a variety of reasons such as school bonds, police bonds, levies for street maintenance and parks, etc. While a pain in the ass/pocketbook, these are all separate taxing authorities and some of them must be submitted to a public vote before they are approved.

We hear horror stories about the CIA. Having not investigated them, I have no way to form an accurate opinion on how or why they abuse certain people.

-Not going to google taxes or the CIA because it is pointless. No matter what opinion I formed will never manifest into a mechanism which would change that with which I disagree.

Also, I realize government is not just one entity but many. So, putting all our gripes under that one umbrella doesn't work.

What a moron trying to play off his criminal acts by only offering further incriminating evidence against himself and others.  Election interference, or anything that has to do with the outcome of elections, is not within his job description.  Anelection within a state is the responsibility of the state and not the presidency or the federal government or Mark Meadows.   :D

‘Trump isn’t funding any of us’: Co-defendants in Georgia case are struggling with mounting legal bills

https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=%E2%80%98Trump+isn%E2%80%99t+funding+any+of+us%E2%80%99%3A+Co-defendants+in+Georgia+case+are+struggling+with+mounting+legal+bills

Some of Donald Trump’s co-defendants in the sprawling election subversion case in Georgia are trying all sorts of ways to fund their mounting legal bills – yet the costs of the 2020 election fallout may quickly exceed their abilities to pay.

At least four have turned to crowdfunding online, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay for defense lawyers. One now has a political action committee to help with legal fees. Another has an ally in Congress vowing to support his legal defense. While another ended up spending nearly a week in jail because he initially couldn’t afford to hire an attorney.

Trump has covered the legal bills of aides, advisers and employees during the House select committee’s probe into January 6, 2021, and federal investigations, including his two co-defendants in the classified documents case, Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, both of whom work for the former president.

But there is no sign yet that Trump intends to do so for any of his co-defendants in the Georgia case, which alleges that he and others engaged in a criminal conspiracy to subvert the state’s 2020 election results. In fact, Trump has publicly distanced himself from them, telling Newsmax he doesn’t know “a lot of these people.”

“And they don’t have a lot of money, and some of them just almost nothing,” Trump said.

This Meadows idiot just can't stop digging the hole deeper for himself and everyone else involved.  Now he caught lying on the stand, a possible perjury charge, and worst.... just eliminated any excuse he could make.  "He now cannot ever say, 'I wasn't doing this for the president, I was acting on my own,'" concluded Peter Odom, a former prosecutor at the Fulton County DA's office.

RICO or Hatch Act.....  what a tough choice to have to make for yourself.

It just isn't working out the way the red hats pray it will.  Kemp and Raffensberger are smart enough to realize that the Trumpy dumpster fire is going to burn everyone associated with him.  They don't want no part of that or indictments over his dumb ass.  It comes as no surprise that the party who accuses the democrats of politicizing the DoJ to 'get DT' are themselves literally politicizing the law to 'protect DT.'

I mean... you can't make this stuff up.

Mar-a-Lago IT worker struck cooperation agreement with special counsel, his former lawyer says
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Mar-a-Lago+IT+worker+struck+cooperation+agreement+with+special+counsel%2C+his+former+lawyer+says+

Mar-a-Lago IT worker Yuscil Taveras has struck a cooperation agreement with the special counsel’s office in the federal case over former President Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents, Taveras’ former defense attorney said in a new court filing.

Taveras struck the deal with prosecutors after he was threatened with prosecution, defense attorney Stanley Woodward wrote in the filing dated Tuesday.

Taveras is referred to in the filing and in the superseding indictment as “Trump Employee 4,” and CNN has identified him as that employee.

According to the terms of the deal explained in the filing, Taveras agreed to testify in the classified documents case and in exchange will not be prosecuted. He has not been charged with any crimes.

The filing marks the first public acknowledgment that special counsel Jack Smith has won the cooperation of key witnesses as part of his prosecution of Trump, his longtime valet Walt Nauta and Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos de Oliveira.

Yeah, well that is going to be like a big fat NOPE right here.

Being tried together with Sidney Powell has to be Kenneth Chesebro's worst nightmare.   The worse she looks at trial, the worse it will be for him.   And she is going to look BAD.   Not having so much fun right now are they?   :D :D :D

---
Georgia Prosecutors Land a Significant Win in Trump Case

https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Georgia+Prosecutors+Land+a+Significant+Win+in+Trump+Case

A judge in Georgia on Wednesday denied motions from two co-defendants to sever their cases from one another in the sprawling racketeering prosecution against Donald Trump.

Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee handed down the decision after more than 90 minutes of arguments from prosecutors and defense counsel. The ruling is a win for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, and means Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell will be tried together, beginning Oct. 23.

The pair are now “hurtling forward” toward trial, McAfee said as he set new deadlines and scheduling orders.

Chesebro is accused of masterminding the “crazy” fake electors scheme to keep Trump in the Oval Office after the president lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden. He recently invoked his constitutional right to a speedy trial, which, as one former federal prosecutor told The Daily Beast, appeared to be a risky attempt to catch Willis unprepared.

Powell quickly followed suit, aping Chesebro’s motion to get on with things forthwith. Willis didn’t blink, forging ahead and securing a trial date just a month-and-change away.

Since then, Chesebro has done his best to sever his case from Powell, who has been called “a complete nut,” a “lunatic,” and “a fucking nutcase.” The so-called Kraken lawyer is accused of being involved in a breach of voting machines in Coffee County, Georgia—a component of the alleged criminal enterprise that Chesebro’s attorneys say had nothing to do with him.

In court on Wednesday, Chesebro’s attorney asked McAfee why Chesebro should “have to deal with a jury who’s going to sit there for weeks, if not months, and listen to all of this evidence related to Coffee County and Ms. Powell?”

“He’s never been there. He’s never met Ms. Powell. He’s never emailed, texted, or called her; he’s never spoken with her, directly or indirectly.”

Powell’s legal team also tried to separate their client from Chesebro, telling McAfee that the two never overlapped during Trump’s audacious but ultimately doomed attempt to cling to power.

“My client doesn’t know Mr. Chesebro, has never met him, has never really spoken with him,” Powell’s co-counsel insisted. “There’s no emails, or documents, or anything else [between them]. What he’s accused of has absolutely nothing to do with Ms. Powell at all.”

Prosecutors, however, argued that Chesebro, Powell, Trump, and their 16 other co-defendants are all part of one massive conspiracy, hence the RICO charges they now face together. Further, conducting multiple parallel trials would create severe logistical issues. As it stands, Fulton County prosecutors say trying all 19 defendants will take at least four months, not including jury selection. The state will call more than 150 individual witnesses, they told McAfee on Wednesday.

Still, Chesebro’s team tried and tried again to create as much space as possible between their client and Powell, attempting to paint a picture of a man they said “is not a politician,” and that until six or seven months ago, “was probably unknown to 99.9999 percent of the population... And so now to force him to sit here in a trial where there’s evidence of all these other things, it’s just not fair.”

McAfee, for his part, dashed those hopes in a single sentence.

“Based on what’s been presented today,” he said, “I am not finding that severance from Mr. Chesebro or Ms. Powell is necessary to achieve a fair determination of the guilt or innocence for either defendant.”

He's never had good press. Laughable point.

Remember, when it comes to Trump's popularity - it is a symptom of the social sickness and policy failure of the left. If things were going well Trump would shrink away into obscurity.

The left's only job is to obscure the salvage operation and they do a really poor job of it.

Ultimately nothing is going to change the direction of the country now. Those plans are decades in advance while they have people thinking about 4 year spans.

I just reread my post and could not find the term 'exclusive' or an implication that selling out one's friends and family out is exclusive to Trump and family. Perhaps you can point out to me how you reached that conclusion.

Not that I disagree, because whether someone supports Trump or detests him, the level of attention he gets is a symptom of a dysfunctional society. Of course, his relentless self-promotion in the media plays a huge part in this.

Would you say Trump was popular when he was in office? If so, wouldn't it follow that 'things' were not going well between January 2017 and January 2021 either?

My guess is that the worst thing that could happen to Trump’s ego is him being totally ignored and forgotten about. Fortunately for him, this will likely not happen during his lifetime… or maybe ever.

A federal jury on Thursday dropped the ax on Peter Navarro, finding the ex-Donald Trump adviser and MAGA loyalist guilty on a pair of contempt of Congress charges after just four hours of deliberations. He’s now staring down a sentence of up to two years behind bars.

Navarro, who gained notoriety for the extreme efforts he made to try to overturn the 2020 election, was busted for ignoring a subpoena to hand over documents and testify before the House’s Jan. 6 committee.

Navarro, 74, long insisted that he wasn’t legally obligated to testify in front of Congress or provide documents requested by the feds because Trump, who was no longer president, had granted him executive privilege. Judge Amit P. Mehta shot that argument down in a pretrial hearing last week, however, leaving Navarro’s defense team grasping at straws as they tried to justify his failure to appear for a deposition.

Do what? Holder was never charged with contempt of Congress.

'In September 2012, after a nineteen-month review, the United States Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General cleared the Attorney General of any wrongdoing with regard to Fast and Furious, stating that there was "no evidence" that Holder knew about the operation before early 2011.'

Scott Hall — one of the 18 co-defendants charged alongside Donald Trump for allegedly working to overturn the results of Georgia’s 2020 presidential election — pleaded guilty on Friday.

Hall is the first individual charged in any of the four criminal indictments against Trump to plead guilty. He was indicted last month in the Fulton County, Georgia, RICO case against the former president and his allies for allegedly participating in the scheme to breach voting equipment in Coffee County.

Hall appeared in Fulton County court on Friday, where he pleaded guilty to five misdemeanor charges related to the effort. He accepted a sentence of five years probation, a $5,000 fine, and 200 hours of community service, and agreed to “testify truthfully” in future court proceedings pertaining to the case, including at the “trials of any co-defendants that is listed on the original indictment in which you were charged.”

Judge rejects Sidney Powell’s attempt to dismiss Georgia charges over misconduct accusations

A state judge rejected Trump-aligned lawyer Sidney Powell’s request to dismiss her Georgia charges over accusations that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s (D) office committed prosecutorial misconduct.

Powell’s attorney at a Thursday court hearing argued she had nothing to do with an elections office breach in Coffee County, Ga., that she is charged over in the indictment, alleging that prosecutors had failed to interview key witnesses and ignored evidence.

“Dismissing an indictment is also something where you have to show prejudice,” Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee said. “It’s something that’s not done lightly and it has to be something that’s done with a concrete reason.”

“And just purely on procedural grounds, I don’t believe that this motion to dismiss for misconduct … I don’t see that as clearing just the procedural bar of being something that’s under the court’s authority,” he continued.

Powell is set to go to trial in less than three weeks alongside another Trump-aligned attorney, Kenneth Chesebro, though both have pleaded not guilty and have filed other pretrial motions challenging the charges. The former president and 16 others indicted in the case will be tried at a later date.

All of the defendants are charged with racketeering over an alleged months-long conspiracy to keep Trump in power following the 2020 election.

Beyond the racketeering charge, Powell faces six other counts in connection with an election equipment breach at an office in Coffee County, a rural part of the state located south of Atlanta, in January 2021.

Georgia Judge Absolutely Shreds Trump Co-Defendant’s Latest Hail Mary

Attorney Kenneth Chesebro, alleged mastermind of the illegal “fake electors” plot launched by a frenzied Trump team in an attempt to keep the defeated former president in office, just cannot catch a break.

The Massachusetts-based lawyer was handed his latest loss in court on Friday, when Judge Scott McAfee handed down a blistering order denying an audacious attempt by Chesebro to get his indictment in the sprawling racketeering case dismissed outright due to an apparently trifling paperwork error. Chesebro’s attorney Scott Grubman filed a Hail Mary pass of a motion on Wednesday, claiming that Fulton County Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade, who was specially selected by District Attorney

to help oversee the case, was late in submitting the appropriate paperwork necessary to formalize his appointment.

Citing an obscure section of the Official Georgia Code, the motion deemed Wade’s participation thus far in the case “void as a matter of law.” The indictment in Fulton County against Trump, Chesebro, and 17 other co-defendants over the hamfisted attempts to reverse Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results, was filed on Aug. 17. Wade, however, didn’t hand in his signed oath of Special Assistant District Attorney until Sept. 27, following an inquiry from Grubman.

“Nathan Wade, who has and continues to serve as lead counsel in this case—including during the presentment of the case to the criminal grand jury and at the time the underlying indictment was returned—was not an authorized public officer by Georgia law,” Chesebro’s motion states.

First Plea Deal in Georgia RICO Case Is Not Good News for Trump

It accuses Wade of committing a misdemeanor by presenting the case to a grand jury and obtaining an indictment “without first taking and filing the appropriate oaths.”

“Accordingly, the indictment in this case must be dismissed,” the filing states.

On Friday, McAfee systematically dismantled Chesebro’s latest attempt to duck accountability, making legal mincemeat out of the 62-year-old’s reasoning in less than 900 words.

In the order, McAfee noted that Chesebro, like Wade, filed his motion after the official deadline. However, McAfee said he allowed an exception and decided to address the merits anyway “because the motion is so easily dispatched.”

To begin with, McAfee said Chesebro’s motion “fail[ed] to establish that this code section is even relevant to Special ADA Wade.” The Georgia Code states that the requirements in question do not apply to those tasked to work on specific cases, rather than being sworn in on a general assignment. But, McAfee wrote, Chesebro’s motion noted this exception, “then blithely move[d] on without adequately explaining why it should not apply.”

The smackdown continued apace, lambasting Chesebro for citing the appropriate stipulation but leaving it “tucked away in a footnote with only the unsupported assertion that ‘prosecuting a criminal case is one such specially declared situation.’”

“The Court has not been provided, nor located, any authority to support this claim,” according to McAfee’s order.

McAfee then schooled Chesebro and his attorney on the “‘de facto’ officer theory recognized early in our Supreme Court’s existence,” which holds that anyone who “exercises the duties of an office under color of an appointment or election to that office” is indeed considered to be an officer, in practice. The validity of this “is so well settled that it is embodied in the [Georgia] Code,” and even without filing his oath at all, Wade’s work on the case to this point “would nevertheless be valid.”

“And if this parrot of a motion is somehow not yet dead,” McAfee goes on, “the Defendant has failed to establish how Special ADA Wade’s actions resulted in prejudice, i.e., how his assignment singlehandedly changed any specific actions taken during the investigation or resulted in the true bill of indictment… Nor has Defendant established a constitutional violation or structural defect in the grand jury process sufficient to justify outright dismissal.”

And so, McAfee writes, “The motion is DENIED.”

Trump legal news brief: Appeals court rejects Meadows’s bid to move Georgia case to federal court

An appeals court on Monday rejects a bid by former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to have his Georgia election interference case moved to federal court. Lawyers for former President Donald Trump go on the offensive Monday, issuing a filing with Georgia Judge Scott McAfee asking that the charges against the former president be dropped because they violate his “core political speech.” In the federal election interference case, meanwhile, Trump’s lawyers ask an appeals court to reconsider their ruling last month that let stand a gag order that prohibits Trump from speaking about witnesses, prosecutors and courtroom staff, saying the ruling conflicts with decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court. Here are the latest legal developments involving the man who hopes to return to the White House in 2024.

Pro-Trump attorney arrested after court hearing about leaked Dominion emails
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Pro-Trump+attorney+arrested+after+court+hearing+about+leaked+Dominion+emails

A pro-Trump lawyer who tried to overturn the 2020 election was arrested Monday after a court hearing about her recent leak of internal emails belonging to Dominion Voting Systems.

There was an existing arrest warrant for the attorney, Stefanie Lambert, stemming from her failure to appear at recent court hearings in her separate criminal case in Michigan, where she was charged with conspiring to seize voting machines after the 2020 election.

Lambert and a cadre of election deniers have disrupted one of Dominion’s many ongoing defamation lawsuits by publicly leaking thousands of the company’s internal emails in recent days, using the disclosures to resurrect false claims about voter fraud.

The controversy erupted when Lambert provided the confidential Dominion documents to Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf, who has embraced conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and has used his office to hunt for supposed voter fraud against Donald Trump. In the last 24 hours, Leaf has posted more than 2,000 internal Dominion documents on his social media account.

Lambert had access to the Dominion files because she represents former Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne, who is being sued for defamation by the voting company over his 2020 election lies. As part of the case, they have access to “discovery” from Dominion, whose lawyers said they have already turned over more than a million documents.

Lambert attended a hearing Monday in Byrne’s defamation case in Washington, DC, but was never seen leaving the courtroom, and questions swirled among the other attorneys about whether she had been taken into custody.

The judge told Lambert to stay behind as the hearing wrapped up. The other attorneys left the courtroom, and two federal marshals then went inside and locked the doors. Lambert was never seen exiting the courtroom. The marshals declined to say whether they arrested her, and she didn’t answer messages seeking comment after the hearing.

The US Marshals Service confirmed in a statement late Monday that Lambert was arrested.

“The U.S. Marshals Service can confirm the arrest of Stefanie Lambert earlier this afternoon. Lambert is currently being held on local charges,” the statement said, referring to her Michigan-based criminal case.

Obviously talking about actual election theft and interference is something Trumpturds don't want to hear... so anywayyyyyy....

Poor Eastman seems to be launching into a new tune to sing now that the noose is tightening.    After being recommended for disbarment... hahahahaha...

--snip--
State Bar Judge Yvette Roland found Eastman culpable in 10 of 11 charges against him.

“In view of the circumstances surrounding Eastman’s misconduct and balancing the aggravation and mitigation, the court recommends that Eastman be disbarred,” she wrote in a 128-page decision.
--snip--

Eastman now says he is being subpoenaed by the Capitol Police.  Somehow I don't think they are wanting to talk to him about the weather.

Two conservative political operatives who orchestrated a robocall campaign to dissuade Black people from voting in the 2020 election have agreed to pay up to $1.25 million under a settlement with New York state, Attorney General Letitia James said Tuesday.

The operatives, Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman, were accused of making robocalls to phone numbers in predominately Black neighborhoods in Ohio, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania and Illinois that told people they could be subjected to arrest, debt collection and forced vaccination if they voted by mail.

“Don’t be finessed into giving your private information to the man, stay safe and beware of vote by mail,” the automated recording told potential voters in the leadup to the election.

Wohl and Burkman pleaded guilty to felony telecommunications fraud in Ohio in 2022. The pair were sued in New York in 2020 by a civil rights organization, The National Coalition on Black Civil Participation, along with people who received the calls and the state attorney general.

Allen Weisselberg, a retired executive in Donald Trump’s real estate empire, was sentenced Wednesday to five months in jail for lying under oath during his testimony in the civil fraud lawsuit brought against the former president by New York’s attorney general.

Weisselberg, 76, was escorted out of the courtroom in handcuffs following the sentencing, which lasted less than five minutes.

Asked if he wanted to address the court, Weisselberg, wearing a black windbreaker and a face mask, responded, “No, your honor.”

It is Weisselberg’s second time behind bars. The former Trump Organization chief financial officer served 100 days last year for dodging taxes on $1.7 million in company perks, including a rent-free Manhattan apartment and luxury cars.

Now, he’s again trading life as a Florida retiree for a stay at New York City’s notorious Rikers Island jail complex, though he's also getting something in return.

Trump attorney who became a crucial witness against him has departed legal team
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Trump+attorney+who+became+a+crucial+witness+against+him+has+departed+legal+team

Evan Corcoran, an attorney for Donald Trump who became a critical witness in the classified documents case against the former president, no longer represents him, CNN has learned.

According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, Corcoran left Trump’s legal team in recent months, a notable departure as the criminal case remains in limbo in south Florida.

Corcoran’s quiet exit from Trump’s orbit could pose a significant issue for the former president, with the potential for prosecutors to call him as a key witness if the case goes to trial. He also was one of the last attorneys on Trump’s defense team to have handled his federal investigations from the beginning, as his legal peril skyrocketed.

Corcoran was brought on to help Trump fend off charges in the classified documents investigation, but instead turned into a central witness after Trump allegedly misled him about the whereabouts of the documents at his Mar-a-Lago club and encouraged him to lie to the Justice Department and withhold those documents.

One year ago, Corcoran was required to appear before a grand jury investigating the case after a district judge ruled he could not use attorney-client privilege to shield notes and memos from investigators about his interactions with Trump, saying that prosecutors met the threshold for the crime-fraud exception for him. The voice memos turned into notes provided a roadmap for prosecutors when they indicted Trump. Corcoran is referred to as “Trump Attorney 1” in that indictment.

If the case goes to trial, Corcoran will likely be a key witness for the prosecution. The case has been mired in delay and unresolved logistical questions for months now.
But it is Corcoran’s role in the classified documents probe that could pose the biggest problem for Trump. According to special counsel Jack Smith, Corcoran’s memos detailed his interactions with Trump and reveal how Corcoran’s client was scheming to undermine a subpoena from prosecutors. At one point, after Corcoran had personally searched for remaining documents at Mar-a-Lago, Trump discussed with the attorney what to do with 38 documents marked as classified that Corcoran had found and placed in a Redweld folder.

“Did you find anything? … Is it bad? Good?” Trump allegedly said, according to the indictment.

The two discussed whether the attorney should bring the documents to his hotel room to keep them safe. Trump then reportedly made a “plucking motion” during the conversation, which the Corcoran memorialized as meaning, “OK, why don’t you take them with you to your hotel room and if there’s anything really bad in there, like, you know, pluck it out.”

Trump Coup Lawyer Jeff Clark Absolutely Scorched In DC Bar Finding
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Trump+Coup+Lawyer+Jeff+Clark+Absolutely+Scorched+In+DC+Bar+Finding

eff Clark, the DOJ attorney who Trump unsuccessfully sought to install mid-coup attempt as attorney general, is facing an effort to disbar him in Washington D.C. And things aren’t going well for him.

On Tuesday, a panel recommended that he be disbarred, finding that it is “the only possible sanction” befitting his attempt to “create national chaos.”

From the disciplinary counsel’s proposed finding of fact and conclusions:

It is not enough that the efforts of these lawyers ultimately failed. As a profession, we must do what we can to ensure that this conduct is never repeated. The way to accomplish that goal is to remove from the profession lawyers who betrayed their constitutional obligations and their country. It is important that other lawyers who might be tempted to engage in similar misconduct be aware that doing so will cost them their privilege to practice law. It is also important for the courts and the legal profession to state clearly that the ends do not justify the means; that process matters; and that this is a society of laws, not men.

The proceedings are not over, but Tuesday’s report was a serious blow to Clark.

(Perhaps the most serious since his boss at the DOJ swatted away his January 2021 power grab by reminding him he had only ever been appointed to lead the Department’s Environmental and Natural Resources Division: “You’re an environmental lawyer. How about you go back to your office, and we’ll call you when there’s an oil spill.” But we digress …)   :D :D :D :D

Judge denies ex-Trump election lawyer John Eastman’s request to reactivate law license while he fights disbarment
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Judge+denies+ex-Trump+election+lawyer+John+Eastman%E2%80%99s+request+to+reactivate+law+license+while+he+fights+disbarment

An attorney discipline judge in California has rejected a request from ex-Trump election lawyer John Eastman to reactivate his law license following her recent recommendation that he be disbarred, which rendered him unable to practice law for now.

Eastman, who devised a multi-step plan for then-Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the 2020 election and was part of the effort to appoint fake electors in several states, wants to keep practicing law so he can represent clients and pay his own legal bills as he fights criminal charges stemming from the 2020 election efforts.

Judge Yvette Roland, who oversees state bar proceedings in California, recommended in March that Eastman be disbarred for his election subversion efforts. His license was immediately revoked while the ethics proceedings continue.

The California Supreme Court will ultimately decide whether to endorse or reject Roland’s recommendation to disbar Eastman.

Still, Roland’s March opinion marked a major step in the consequences for lawyers who propelled false theories of election fraud on former President Donald Trump’s behalf.

“Eastman failed to uphold his primary duty of honesty and breached his ethical obligations by presenting falsehoods to bolster his legal arguments,” Roland wrote in her opinion recommending he be disbarred. “In sum, Eastman exhibited gross negligence by making false statements about the 2020 election without conducting any meaningful investigation or verification of the information he was relying upon.”

In his plea to Roland to reactivate his law license while he fights disbarment, Eastman said he needed to be able to represent Reps. Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene in a political speech fight and pay his own legal bills.

But Roland, in rejecting Eastman’s request on Wednesday, wrote in her decision that he “fails to demonstrate that he no longer presents a threat to the public.”

Roland wrote that she “found that disbarment was the appropriate sanction for Eastman’s misconduct in part to safeguard the public. The court’s decision determined that Eastman made deceptive and misleading claims in legal documents, public forums, and other contexts concerning the 2020 presidential election and the extent of Vice President Michael R. Pence’s authority to override the electoral process.”

Bannon was convicted in 2022 of two counts of contempt of Congress for refusing to turn over documents or testify to the House of Representatives committee the investigated the Capitol riot.

He was sentenced to four months in prison, but has been allowed to remain free during his appeal.

Bannon, a key figure on the American right, argued on appeal that he was barred from making key arguments in his defense at trial, including that his lawyer advised him he did not have to comply with the subpoena.

Should he win the election, these loyal folks might end up being part of his administration. -Scary thought.
