As far as high volume training goes .
If more if better .Why not just work 24 hours per day ,7 days per week ?
After all more is better right ???
I been training over 3 decades.After my first decade I realized I had been over traing
The moment I stopped over training .
I put on 12-14 lbs of muscle naturally in 4-5 months .I hadn't made gain like that since I first started training .
I knew I was on to something
I went placing 4th in my 1st contest to winning my next to contest .Plus my weight was a biggger 12 lbs heavier on stage
Now I don't have the best genetics for bodybuilding.I would have been a better pro wrestler,fighter power lifter ,or football player .I have very large heavy bones ,long muscle bellies,and a" H" structure.
Which is great for strength and power
But not ideal for bodybuilding
A " V" type structure is ideal for bodybuilding
The picture I posted is 2 people who had good genetics but not the beat genetics.
Yet they beat guys will better genetics .
How did they do this ?
They quite simply out training the competition
They did not train longer ,they trained smarter and harder .
I believe both men were way ahead of there time .Especially Mike Mentzer .
I believe you need more then 1 -2 sets per excercise .I personally only do 2-3 sets per exercise.
If you can do more then that your wasting your time .
I see most people doing 4-6 sets per exercise and it's painful watching them
They actually have to pace themselves or hold back on 1/2 their sets .
Just so they have enough energy to do the rest of their sets .Lmao
To make matters worse ,they aren't all jacked up on caffeine from the latest pre work out
They decided to choke down lmao
The logical thing to do is to cut back the amount of sets they are doing .
Then take that same energy and train each and ever set to complete failure
Stop worrying about sets and reps
But instead focus on stimulating and giving that muscle 110% .
Bodybuilding is a sprint not a marathon.
You should train each and every set like you would run a 100 yard dash .All out !!!
Balls to The wall!!!
When you do this you don't give a muscle
A choice wether it will grow or conform
It has no choice in the matter
A good analogy is .You can poke at a stick of dynamite all day long.Or hit it once with a hammer .I think the second option is a much better choice
Working out I am like making love
You don't need to time it or even count movements
It should be by feel and instinct
I don't time MTM workouts.But they usualy don't last more then 30-45 minutes.
If you think about if .If you give maximum intensity for that amount of time
That's should 99% of the population wore the hell out .If you had laser focus .
Your rest between sets is 2 -minutes.
You only rest to drink water and recharge yourself to give the next set 110%
Also I must note never use the same
Routine on a muscle week after week
Always change up your routine
This will shock you right muscle sandman refresh your mind
When it come and to rep ranges I don't count reps .I do however use approximate numbers
If I was going to do 3 sets On on particular exercise.My 1st set would be 9-12 reps ,2nd set 6-8 reps ,and 3 Rd set 4-6 reps
This way I am working my fast and slow twitch muscle fibers.
Let's say I am on my last set of Flatt Bench press.Instead of getting 4 reps I only get 3 reps? Does that 1 rep matter ?
No !!! As long as I trained the set to compete failure .Thats all that matters!!!!
Your muscles does not know the difference between 3 reps and 7 reps !!!
It does however know what complete failure is
Now I have outlined how to train
The question I how often should I train
I personally think that a muscle group shouldn't not be trained Then 1 time perm week .
If your train with enough intensity,trust me your bodypart about a week to fully recover
I know some athletes have and do train a body part 2-3 time and prayers week .
But they might be using high amount s of HGH aswell as high amount as of Anabolic compounds .Which helps the body recover effortlessly.But that's whole different topic lmao
When it comes to Order and sequence you train each muscle group
I usually advise people to train the bigger and lagging body parts at the beginning of the week .
A good split would be
Monday :Legs
Tuesday: Chest
Wednesday;Back
Thursday:Shoulders
Friday : Arms
Saturday:Off
Sunday :Off
There's you have it !

I necessarily don't think that doing more sets is going to get me bigger. I just enjoy training, so I enjoy doing more and spending more time in the gym. Of course, there are those that believe if they do more sets, they are going to get bigger. However, some just enjoy being in the gym. On the other hand, he claims when he dropped the sets, he put on 12-14 pounds of muscle naturally in 4-5 months haha lol.

"Studies show" that "volume" (weight x reps x sets) is the most important variable for increasing muscle mass.  Not necessarily so for muscle strength/power/etc. of course.
