Looking at a bodybuilder's physique with a trained eye and making a comment / analysing it doesn't require one to work out. Hell, some of the best bodybuilding writers are fat and out of shape, like Peter McGough (who BTW, is my favorite bodybuilding writer who's got an amazing sense of humor). Special Ed seems more like a writer to me than a bodybuilder and I've never seen him claim to look like a bodybuilder or even claim to be one. Maybe in a perfect world.........
