Never buy a dog breed based soley on its appearance...

What do people here think of this caveat? Based on the research I have been doing (I wish to get a dog in about 2 years if my plans work out), it seems like good advice. I love the wolf like appearance of spitz breeds but I don't think I would mesh all too well with them for a variety of reasons. Anyway what do people think about that piece of advice?

appearance , grooming needs , health issues and requirements , availabilty of qualified veterinary care , sufficient room/time for exercise needs

so yes there should be more than just the looks thought about
