The whole Palestinian issue is the real problem. I for one am a believer in the right of return no matter what the cost is for Israel.

It is interesting thought that most middle eastern countries sent their Jewish citizens packing for Israel at the first available opportunity.

Now many of these same nations want to destroy Israel.

To answer the question posed in the thread title... it matters to zionists because their support comes from the US. Without US help, Israel would be dead in the water. Therefore any anti-Israeli position MUST be viewed as anti-American in order to keep American support. It would be disastrous for Israel to wake up and find American assistance is no longer popular with Americans and will no longer be the policy.

There are literally about 1 million arabs that are still living in Israel.

They ones that left in 48 thought that Jordan and Syria would win the war against Israel and decided to flee.
