Bob was incorrectly listed as 23 at both the show and on this youtube page.  He was 24 at the time in one of the best routines I've seen:

Rich Gaspari's posing routine at the 1986 Pro World was also a knockout in my book.

Perfection!!

incredible- charismatic. a simple comparison between that and this year's coleman routine should suffice to show why bodybuilding is now rejected on a widescale- it's a farce.

...how'd you get here, time machine?
...bbing has always been looked at as an activity of homoerotic, obsessive compulsive narcicism. from sig klein's time, grimeks time, arnolds, etc... until now- amd always will be.
...why?
..because every body builder, no matter how big, bigger, or small, represents to the avverage, untrained common man that physically, he is inferior.
rather than ask himself why he chooses a physically "subordinate" status, it is much easier to look at bbs and call them a bunch of freaks....
as he still slinks off into the bathroom at night, after playing two pump charlie with the wife, and "tries " to flex the pipestems...that he, and others of his weak willed ilk,  humorously call "arms."

true, but at least the competitions were conducted with an amount of dignity and self-respect. today many of the competitors dance on stage, in costumes or with props- it's progressed far closer to some talent contest. whereas previously, the element of dignity meant that- although, like you say, it was always pageant-like- it seemed as though it was much more about showing what they had built or worked for in the gym.

Imagine if all bodybuilders aspired to that level of development and presentation.  Most wouldn't make it, but the overall quality of the compettitors would be much higher

He has a "pretty" look, but I prefer more massive bodybuilders. Check him out in 1988. You don't see anyone that "skinny" even at national level anymore.

Extremely gay posing music in both '84 & '88; then again few BBs choose good posing music. Rather femme posing routine as well. Good physique, looked better in '88, here:

When it comes to aesthetics, Birdsong could hang with almost anyone, and had a more masculine look than Paris. Ya, the posing music's bad here, posing even worse though not as gay LOL

Which from Paris' feminine routines or Ronnie's 'Moses' routine do you think has less dignity?

gaspari's routine at the 86 pro world was unbelievable.  I have that show on tape and watched it just the other day, just think Rich is only like 23 or 24 at that time and that is one of the best thought out and executed routines in the history of BB not to mention that his develpment at the time is just out of this world...it's incredible to see.

Gay for pay, not gay. He's married with kids and is a minister.

Yea well I know a lot of gay men who are married. I saw the video and it wasn't a muscle worship thing it was all out sex. I doesn't matter to me. He was a good dude and bodybuilder.

In that case half of BB's gay, including Schwarzenegger, whose primary "business advisor" from the 60s onwards was gay, and who was available for high pay upon arrival in Venice in lieu of a regular job. The gay men's mags Arnold appeared in were not a stretch for Arnie; more power to him for his open-mindedness but he wasn't gay either. ;D

Not the same at all; BBs have done gay for pay all along, but most are not gay.

Are you trying to say that perverse gay actions now are considered hetrosexual? Is this an attempt of coming out of the closet in a sneaky way?
