This win qualifies Williams for the Olympia in October. He placed 6th in last year’s Olympia, and 9th in the 2019 Olympia.

Fifteen years ago, placing top 6 at the Olympia would have automatically qualified Williams for the next year's Olympia.
Twenty years ago, placing top 10 at the Olympia would have qualified him for the next year's Olympia.
They make turning pro easier; yet qualifying for the Olympia is tougher.

Winner Akim Williams:

Jesus fuck you can win 4k friday night racing the local dirt track then race an hour away Saturday night and do it again all summer long. Meanwhile these guy can only do how many shows a year and only the top guy gets 10k and it only pays down 5 spots? The guys who got paid made about 2k on average several guys didn't get paid ay all and These guys are spending more money prepping and travelling than they are making. This is considered professional bodybuilding lol amateur redneck race car drivers make more money. It cost 2k just to fly to Puerto Rico and get a hotel
-
The Classic Physique competitors look the best IMO.

Racing is more popular, bottom line. It doesn't matter how hard you think bodybuilders work to prepare for a show. What matters is the finished product.
Cars racing around at ridiculous speeds, often crashing into each other, provides more entertainment value than swole guys flexing in posing trunks.
Big muscles only go mainstream when their possessors ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING WITH THEM that looks awesome and entertaining. See American Gladiators from the 80s and early 90s.
Only a handful of those bodybuilders were IFBB pros; and those were the women (Tonya "Gold" Knight" and Shelly "Siren" Beattie).
The rest were state/national-level NPC bodybuilders: Billy "Thunder" Smith (training partner of IFBB/WBF pro, "The Future" Jim Quinn), Erika "Diamond" Andersch, Raye "Zap" Hollitt, Lori "Ice" Fetrick, Steve "Tower" Henneberry, etc.
But, they made WAY MORE MONEY than the average IFBB pro.
Why? THEY ACTUALLY DID STUFF with their muscle (women's powerball was my personal favorite ;D ).

Bodybuilding is a niche sport and sort of a subculture plus it takes a lot more time to turn pro that it does to be a redneck dirt track driver and lot more hard work also.
Do dirt track drivers train hard 24/7 ?
I doubt it.........there is no time off in a bodybuilders day...............traini ng,cardio, and a constant diet regimen beats driving and have a few Buds with some toothless whore after the race.

The point is the prize money is nothing and that is a Pro show and the fact that it takes so much time and work is all the more reason you might think Pros would get paid something. Again you can't prep for a show and travel to Puerto Rico to compete for 2k. Are you going by yourself or taking a coach or family the weekend vacation cost more than the prize money. It is one thing to spend more money on your car than you can win as an amateur but these guys are pros they should make more than they spend.
For 2k no one should be complaining they don't look dehydrated and 1% bodyfat they are not getting paid enough to do that. And you dieted 60 sometimes for nothing? Hell no I am plenty lean I don't need to starve myself for a month to walk on stage a little leaner for 15 minutes.
If the NC state masters show paid 5k then fuck yes I would enter. It doesn't pay a dime.

That's from your perspective. From their perspective, having the reflexes and ability to handle a powerful machine and being to fix and repair a car in seconds beats oiling yourself up and hitting silly poses in your underwear.
Bodybuilders are perceived as having utterly useless oversized muscles. That's why the only time big muscular guys make the mainstream is in pro wrestling, action films, or entities like the aforementioned American Gladiators.

I agree but love of the sport only gets you to my condition. If they want competitive dehydrated 0% bodyfat starving and cramping on stage that takes money. I can walk down the damn beach right now and get the exact same kind of feedback its not worth dehydrating and spending all weekend at an event to go up on stage for 15 minutes in front of a room of 50 people.
