Conversely African-Americans as a group are the fattest people in the world. Why? Because we have a very large private sector which can support the huge inefficient public sector. But that’s winding down.

I’ve heard this bullshit excuse before. Eating right is not that expensive. Eggs, chicken, oatmeal, rice, potatoes and some greens are not gonna break a bank. The problem is a surplus of calories. People in truly poor countries like Uganda don’t have this problem.

Of course. The typical breakfast I make at home, eggs, oatmeal and a cup of coffee costs about a buck 50.

Think about this, the average life expectancy in Uganda is about 62 years. For the poor, it is likely less. Generally speaking, the older we get the more likely we are to have a cardiovascular event such as a heart attack.

You’re gonna make me go with the whole correlation does not equal causation Thang? Why don’t you see those correlations in Africa? Because, by world standards, the American idea of poverty is a joke.

Obesity used to be a rich man’s disease back in the day. It was rare to see a poor fat person. Then came mass food production which changed the game. Now, everybody can afford to overeat and can get fat.

People with money can afford better quality food, either from the grocery store or when eating out. Have you ever noticed that high end restaurants often serve smaller portions and many items on the menu are à la carte?
