PBW Celebrates "100th Episode" with Sergio Oliva (Monday 8pm ET)

Bodybuilding Radio Show Hits the Century Mark!

On Monday Night, "Pro Bodybuilding Weekly" celebrates its 100th episode. The show that first took to the air back in June of 2005, will mark the occasion by presenting a rare visit with one of bodybuilding’s most celebrated champions, Sergio Oliva. Regarded as bodybuilding’s most elusive interview, the former Mr. Olympia champion joins Dan & Bob for a special "100th Edition" of bodybuilding talk radio. The appearance by Oliva represents another milestone for the popular show, as Cicherillo explains, "This is an exciting show because Sergio is the only Olympia champion who has yet to appear on PBW. We are proud to have had the rare opportunity to interview all 11 winners of the Mr. Olympia."

After being informed that PBW was set to air episode #100, Joe Weider, the iconic founder of Weider Publications, said "I know a thing or two about being a pioneer in spreading the global message of bodybuilding and fitness and Pro Bodybuilding Weekly has acted as a 21st century pioneer in taking that message via a new media format to a new audience. Sergio was awesome. Maybe the best of that era. And that probly includes Arnold. I think I read somewhere that his son competes now.

The Sergio interview will be truly awesome. I do hope they ask him about the time he demolished the five police officers. A couple of months back I interviewed Sergio and this will be run shortly after the Pro Bodybuilding Weekly show. He gave the fully story on the five on one incident along with details of his escape from communist Cuba. Sergio is another who speaks his mind.

Sergio Oliva tells of his escape from Cuba, on PBW

1 day before he was set to compete in the Pan Am games...

Sergio lived in Cuba. He was on the weightlifting team. He wanted to compete so he could win a gold medal. He says he could have easily won 3 gold medals. But if you compete, you're taking a chance that they send you back to Cuba.

or you could escape now, enter the US. No medals, but you get to live in the USA.

So he fled and entered the USA as a political refugee. He says he would have been HANGED back home. If they caught you doing bodybuilding in Cuba, they put you in prison. Just plain weightlifting - no bodybuilding.
