It seems every video is about keeping the back flat. In the past rounding your back was acceptable. I still round my back and have zero issues. Same stretch and more natural to the movement.

Basically yes but Romanian deads are much more intensive, apples & oranges i suppose as you will probably be able to lift more off the floor.

yes this is true, i just do what i feel comfortable with. A Good powerlifter would probably criticise my form but if you feel no pain with a slightly rounded back do it.
