Doesn't look good at all. Typical slin look - volume without separation. Best developed bodypart is his midsection. Calves are a mess. Extremely short, will look small next to others. Will move down this year, I think like many bodybuilders we see the best of them when they turn pro and it's only slowly downhill from there as drugs cause slow palumboism.

When the judges are actually scoring a show they would have to find the best 90s bodies. What constitues a 90s body? What if everyone in the show sucks according to the 90s aesthetics, what then. Maybe they could pick Bumstead from the physique category and have him be Mr O? Nah that wouldn't be satisfactory either. What would you do with a Nasser 90s body? It was full of oil, smooth as hell and blocky. Nasser would fit nicely beside Nick Walker.
I actually don't think it can be done. It's like grying to judge the females by requesting they be 20% smaller and soft. They looked worse and just as masculine and no one knew how to judge that shit.

Either it's the drugs, and GH sure helps to keep lean throughout the year or guys just diet harder nowadays. I know the oldtimers don't want to hear it, that the guys simply diet way harder nowadays, but there's for sure an element of that. I have friends who got shredded glutes on just basic anabolics, so what other than diet causes this. I'd love to hear other opinions.

I think he's even worse than the ugly goblin Branch degenerated into. Walker just has an ugly body. Branch actually looked great as a rookie pro. He lacked in some areas but what he did have, he had in spades. I look at Nicky boy and see lots of size but I'm just not impressed. Stumpy limbs, a thick waist and tons of veins atop veins is a shitty look.

Overall they are harder today actually. Just slightly. At least the glutes weren't in as often in the 90s. There might be slightly higher water levels today. They still use diuretics probably just as much but they know better how far to push it. In the cases such as Dallas, I would point the finger att AAS and GH actually.
Stimulants? They all use clen which isn't supposed to be a stimulant, but is for some. Ephedrine yeah, but Adderall is more popular it seems. Heavy stims can cause instant death especially if you get all jacked up the day before a show when you're really dehydrated. So far we haven't seen any cases though. Over time speed can cause heart failure but otoh there are a lot of oldtimers with no problems after decades of prescribed low dose use.

I don't know. I mean the most popular way nowadays to diet is: figure out the amount of deficit you want to start out in. Set a specific protein intake that is not touched much during the diet. Fill the rest of the calories with your preferable ratio of carbs to fat. I would say most opt for lowish fat. Then all you do is reduce the carbs week by week. And/or manipulate cardio volume. It doesn't seem sophisticated at all to me.
Palumbo actually has a precontest diet where oftentimes the diet isn't altered much. When the diet stops working he increases the drugs and/or cardio.
My friend who is set to compete in a month has a 2K diet plan. He jumps on it 16 or 12 weeks before depending on how fat he is and keeps the calories at 2000 throughout.
I just roll my eyes at carb loading. I mean yes, more carbs can give you more "fullness" but in most cases the change from depleted to full is minimal. If you're in shape you are in shape, carb load or no carb load.

Honestly the competitors of today seem to diet less hard than competitors from the 80s and early 90s, in that calories and carbs seem to stay higher than they did back then. Doesnt seem like BBers go hungry much. You could attribute that to the insulin necessitating higher carb intake throughout. But even back then when they'd 'starve' and diet harder they never really got shredded glutes until Gaspari i believe
So what is everyone doing differently now from back then that's turning out these dry glute/ham areas?

Every fucking Mr. Olympia stood at booths on Olympia weekend while competing, especially his idol Jay Cutler. Hopefully this guy gets smoked at the O.

He also knows guys with better genetics are coming out of the woodwork like Andrew Jacked (who still have room to improve immensely) whereas he's completely maxed out and it's going to be a tough Olympia for him.

To be honest, over the last couple of years, already, I’ve noticed a deterioration of his physique. Not specifically in mass and size, but rather, for lack of a better word, freshness.
Branch suffered the same thing, albeit over a longer stretch of time.
Nick has been gunning it so hard and so fast his body is already throwing in the towel.
I don’t say this to be mean.
I guarantee his innards are beginning to resemble Dallas’ during that guy’s autopsy.

Cormier was always partying and relying on his insane genetics. The current guys get shit on but they work just as hard. The just aren't genetically blessed like the 90's bodybuilders were. All of us from the 90's want to say our era was the best. All those guys turned around and they were soft as fuck from the waist down. Every sport advances as times goes on. Training and nutrition, everything gets pushed to new levels

I thought the deal was Fouad asked for a "day" or whatever and Nick was like "can we do an hour? I can make good on those hours next time" And Fouad basically releases him then and there. Nick wanted to fullfill his contract but Fouad didn't want him anymore. I'm sure he was pissed, he knew Nick was probably going to Revive and Nick was asking for favors.
Of course they are delicate. Remember that female reporter interviewing Nasser backstage? Hahaha.

Nick has to play on mass, that's the only thing he has going for him. That why I don't think the judging criteria has changed in several decades. There are no Makkavy's or Paris' in the field first of all, and remember! Paris didn't win much of anything in his time either despite having the "perfect physique." Go look at Nick's amateur pics, his off season home shots. Allmost no one thought he would ever even turn pro. Cankles they called him, what was he supposed to do, strive to look like Makkavy haha?
I always give the example of 2003 Coleman. Say you were sat on the judging panel and no repercussions if you placings were were very strange and only based on you preferences. It would be very hard to judge if you were a fan of 90's physiques. It's a thought experiment. Where do you put Ronnie, who do you have win?
I think the bodies change the judging not the other way around. Mostly.

To be honest, over the last couple of years, already, I’ve noticed a deterioration of his physique. Not specifically in mass and size, but rather, for lack of a better word, freshness.
Branch suffered the same thing, albeit over a longer stretch of time.
Nick has been gunning it so hard and so fast his body is already throwing in the towel.
I don’t say this to be mean.
I guarantee his innards are beginning to resemble Dallas’ during that guy’s autopsy.

Yates was always shredded from the back. Ronnie too. But even Shawn Ray and Levrone at their best condition ever, from the waist down, would be considered off nowadays. But their upper body conditioning smokes the current guys. LoL it's so weird. Yeah I watched a couple contests Flex was in and he genuinely looked like he had a fat ass and not one line in his hamstrings
With respect, I dunno about some of that; Shawn usually had very ripped hamstrings and glutes (ugh, I feel like Elton John just saying that). Circa 93, Flex was on point there in the spring shows; and before Levrone started competing at 250ish, his hamstrings were among the best ever. If you can find pics of him from the '92 NOC, I'm sure you'll agree the look he brought to that contest was fucking insane conditioning-wise. No shit: his hamstrings actually showed cross striations (!). He was fairly close to that shape at the Olympia that year, too.

Exactly. And people act like it's a training issue, as if he prioritised the wrong bodyparts in training. No a trainee is not like a sculptor working with clay. That's ridiculous. An advanced trainee always looks the same, just bigger or smaller overall, or more or less fat. After the first couple of years of dedicated training you can see what he will look like when it comes to proportion.

Some of that has to be training the glutes more as well guys know the trunks are smaller so they train them more dry them out and stop glute shots a couple weeks out

They are incredible. It's not really any type of second rate or "easier bodybuilding. These guys don't do it byt I believe, if a guy gets that depleted and can stand to diet for 2 more weeks WITHOUT any hormones they would end up even crisper. But if also leads to a 10lbs body weigh loss they don't think it's worth it. You could still do stuff like clen but the androgen/gh/insulin would let a a little more water go.
