Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is facing ridicule online after exaggerating about her experience during the storming of the Capitol on January 6. Fighting tears during an Instagram-Live broadcast Monday night, Ocasio-Cortez described feeling traumatized, and said it “almost felt like a zombie movie or something.”

AOC also said that she felt threatened by a Capitol Hill Police officer who had come to secure the building and had banged on her office door. “I thought I was going to die,” Ocasio-Cortez emoted.

The socialist congresswoman said she hid inside her bathroom after her legislative director Geraldo Bonilla-Chavez told her to “hide, hide, run and hide.”

“And so I run back into my office,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I slam my door. There’s another kind of like back area to my office, and I open it, and there’s a closet and a bathroom. And I jump into my bathroom.”

When it was pointed out that she was not even located inside the Capitol Building when the riot was taking place, critics accused her of being a “drama queen” and #AlexandriaOcasioSmollett trended on Twitter.

One Twitter user noticed that AOC’s story changed to explain why she didn’t go to the extraction point. Initially, she told people it was because she feared other Congressmen.

On Monday, she blamed the Capitol Police officer.

Conservative website Red State first pointed out that AOC was not actually in the U.S. Capitol Building during the riot.

Her office is in the Cannon House Building across the street from the Capitol Building. Moreover, GOP congresswoman Nancy Mace, whose office is two doors down from AOC’s, said that “insurrectionists never stormed our hallway.”

Ocasio-Cortez lashed out at conservative critics, accusing them of being “manipulative,” and claiming [inaccurately] that Trump supporters had planted bombs around her office. In fact, the pipe bombs were discovered at the offices of the Republican and Democratic national committees, blocks away. And while the FBI has not made any arrests yet, a potential suspect was seen on surveillance camera. The FBI said the person, who was carrying a backpack, “wore a gray hooded sweatshirt, a face mask and Nike Air Max Speed Turf sneakers in yellow, black and gray.”

 

This is the latest manipulative take on the right.

They are manipulating the fact that most people don’t know the layout the Capitol complex.

Posobiec also pointed out that AOC complained about feeling uncomfortable during the riot, even though she had once advocated for left-wing protesters to make people [conservatives] uncomfortable.

The hashtag “#AOClied” began trending on social media following claims by critics that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) wasn’t in the Capitol building during the riots in which she purportedly feared for her life.

In an Instagram Live video earlier this week, AOC (D-NY) told an elaborate story about the day of the riots.

It was a tale that encompassed accusing Republicans of using the same tactics as those who commit sexual assault and questioning if a Capitol police officer had purposefully put her at risk.

Ocasio-Cortez said she hid in her office bathroom to remain safe.

“I thought I was going to die,” she said, emotionally recalling the events she experienced. “I have never been quieter in my entire life.”

“If this was the journey that my life was taking, that I felt that things were going to be OK,” AOC recalled, wiping tears from her eyes. “I had fulfilled my purpose.”

Several critics began to question AOC’s Capitol riots story and just how close she was to being the victim of an attempted murder.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson said Ocasio-Cortez video tale was about “the only subject she really cares about – herself.”

“Wallowing around in Lake Me like it’s interesting to anybody but her. Narcissism on parade,” he lamented. “The perfect symbol of a culture dying from self-involvement.”

“We’ve said that before and we’ve laughed as we did,” Carlson added. “But actually it’s not funny. People will believe this crap. Some already do.”

“She introduced a lot of bills, but she was not successful at having them receive any sort of action in committee or beyond committee and if they can’t get through committee they cannot pass the House,” Alan Wiseman, a Vanderbilt political scientist and co-director of the center, told The Post.

“It’s clear that she was trying to get her legislative agenda moving and engage with the lawmaking process,” Wiseman added “But she wasn’t as successful as some other members were — even among [other] freshmen — at getting people to pay attention to her legislation.”

When looking at the legislative effectiveness of all congressional Democrats, AOC was ranked 230th out of 240 Democrats. Among the 19 Dem lawmakers from New York state, she ranked dead last.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has backed Democrats’ effort to pack the Supreme Court by adding four new seats that would be filled by President Joe Biden, arguing the courts should not be allowed to overturn laws passed by Congress.

The Washington Times reported:

“I do think we should be expanding the court,” she told reporters.

The New York Democrat, part of the progressive “Squad” collective on Capitol Hill, reasoned the justices overturning laws is part of the problem with the 6-3 conservative majority.

“The idea that nine people, that a nine-person court, can overturn laws that … hundreds and thousands of legislators, advocacy and policymakers drew consensus on … we have to … just ask ourselves, I think as a country, how much does that current structure benefit us?
