which buff here is a british movie buff

ive been  googling but i cannot name the movie i have in mind if i remember the main character is a brute set in 19th century possibly in england and no its not bill sikes

anymore info?Could be one of hundreds with that description
if i remember correctly the brute had red hair, chops movie was made 60s-70s

Barry Lyndon is an excellent film if you haven't seen it.

Directed by Stanley Kubrick. Even only used natural light, to make the film look more authentic to the era.

Barry Lyndon was my first thought, but you could hardly call Ryan oneals character a brute and he didnt have chops Superb movie though.
