What your not taking into account is the fact that the gas prices were roughly around the same price for 10+ years until he took office, and now skyrocketed when we are at our ABSOLUTE WORST in 50+ years, so to say the economy was on the verge of collapse and caused the prices to be cheap is silly.
That type of thinking doesn't equal out into the real world when things are the worst they have ever been and gas prices are at an all time high.

I have a van with shitty gas mileage but guess what? I use it for work or I drive a 4-cylinder car around. Not to mention the SUV's and diesel pickups are around 50K brand new. I just gotta laugh, so many better things to do with your money

thats not how logic works. his statement is limited to saying that gas prices were low because the world economy was on the verge of collapse. nothing else. it doesnt mean that there is any general rule that will always apply, it doesnt mean that the inverse must be true, it doesnt mean that the inverse must be false. your trying to extrapolate more meaning that was found in his statement.

LOL.. if you think obama is radical in his economic ideology you just havent been paying attention. he has passed fewer regulations than bush did, he has repealed some unnecessary and burdensome regulations, he included savings into his stimulus bill, he allowed the bush tax cuts to be extended on the wealthy, he has been a pragmatist and a moderate in all of his biddings. even his health reform was a product of the conservative heritage foundation and was championed by newt gingrich and mitt romney both.

the entire idea that the american economy is doing poorly is a bunch of bullshit. its all relative. people think they should be living better than they were 5 years ago. and they arent living significantly better, their expectations havent been met, and they are disappointed about it. go back in time 300 years and see what peoples opinions about politics and the economy were. this whole "are you better off now than you were 4 years ago" thing is only a couple hundred years old. the idea that your standard of living should be increasing every election cycle is just absurd and unsustainable unless a great majority of people are extremely productive and innovative in their endevours.. and thats just not happening. we are doing fine. the debt that world governments have accumulated is a problem, and a serious problem. but outside of that everytihng is just hype.

my neighbor has a ford f350 that is always in the shop. Has all the bells and whistles. Problem is every few months social services turn up asking why he isn't paying child support for his kids from previous relationships.

This is not the case anymore. From 2000-2008 there were more trucks and SUVs on the road then there are today. I am seeing more and more smaller cars like Fiats and Smart cars, as well as electric cars, so the demand if anything is down now while gas price is up.
The only variable that I see that could be causing this is the rest of the world increasing demand, such as India and China.

gas was at roughly the same place the summer before 2008, then there was a rapid, rapid descent as the world economy was hit with a recession. This caused low demand like jaejonna pointed out.

you can't be serious? it's as plain as day, there was a massive plummet before the collapse. Gas is roughly the same as it was and you are currently in recovering and other markets are falling so hard. It's not even close to the same climate yet it is very close.
I would say that any president has little control over gas prices, they really do not.
