Competing in first contest - dont know what to expect
« on: July 07, 2006, 06:49:20 AM »
OK. I am finally taking the plunge and entering my first PL contest -

3rd Annual Drug Free Summer Time Splash
Southern Ohio Powerlifting and Bench Championships
Saturday August 19,2006

I have no idea what to expect. I am 39 y/o and will be competing RAW in all 3 lifts. Any advice from those that have competed in a fed like this?  USA Powerlifting rules apply.I read the IPF Rule book and have some questions:

1. Does raw mean no knee wraps in squat?
2. Is a singlet mandatory?

I looked at the 2005 RAW totals (http://www.usapowerlifting.com/newsletter/ranking/2005/men_raw.html) and cant believe that those are valid, they seem low.

Singlet is mandatory.

Advice: pick your opening attempts as something you could do for 3 EASY reps.
Save your third attempts for PR's, use fourth attempts to set new records.
This is your first EVENT, just get your feet wet.
Try and go 9/9 on attempts.
After your lAST  attempt  make sure you SHAKE THE HANDS of ALL THREE JUDGES and tell them THANK YOU, NO MATTER WHAT!
Above all else...have fun.
