I got in shape, without any clen or t3. I got down to about 7 percent bodyfat at one point. Yippee for me. I didn't do it to step on stage (not that I would look any good up there anyway). or for anyone else. I had no real support group, except the folks who I work with.

I worked my ass off. I was in the gym at 5am every day doing cardio. I weight trained 6 days a week (one body part at a time). And then did cardio every night. I dieted to the point that I even now that I can let go a little...I feel guilty eating something other than chicken breast or turkey. Ya so I took ECA stacks, but if you honestly think I would shoot the shit men do into my body...you are seriously mistaken.
Like I said, you can say anything you want...but you guys can't burst this bubble. At 43 I look pretty good and I competed against girls in their 20's. I had the best time Saturday and you can't take that away from me.

In regards to Mike and Laura - I think there's a problem on both sides, although I don't see much fault with the Arvillas. I'm actually amazed that they expect less-than-viciously cruel treatment from at least some of the members here after all this time! Mike and Cheri, mark my words - no matter who you are or what you do, there's going to be people hating you and pointing out your flaws, which we all have. You can't let that get to you, too much. You've got to do what you've got to do. I know you guys don't think it's going to be a Mayhem-like environment here, but still, I always detect a faint surprise that's very obvious when you respond to even your regular haters.
I won't go to the extent of saying Mike looks great, cause he doesn't - at least, not overall. Mike's passionate about bodybuilding in a positive way, but he's got as much genetics for bodybuilding as Adonis has for face modelling. He can convince himself that he looks good and he does, but only compared to his previous self, which is NOT good enough to get universal praise or even majority praise. Most of the guys who encourage him with positive vibes do it cause they like Mike as a person (as do I) and not because they think he's a good bodybuilder, which he's not. That's the thing with bodybuilding - you can go onstage looking like buttsuck or Jocelyn pelletier and do some posing and earn some placing. But that doesn't make you a bodybuilder and most certainly, not one that's praiseworthy.
So Mike, go ahead and do what you do, but don't be surprised if people continue to hate, insult and mock you in every cruel way possible. Hell, Ronnie Coleman, Dorian Yates and Arnold S get laughed at here.
As for Laura, you did a great job and I'm one of those guys who thought you looked great even before you leaned up. Not 'supermodel' great, but 'I envy Mike cause he's got a sweetheart who's lovely' great. The same goes for you - It's good to see you compete and use that as an excuse to get in the best shape of your life, but that's where the compliments will end. You won't be appreciated for your capacity as a fitness competitor. I had the pleasure of dining with Laura and Mike this past Sunday night, and the photos really do not do her justice. Laura has a beautiful face and is in phenomenal condition. Unlike that skeleton featured in the above photo, Laura actually has the perfect amount of muscle and she was kind enough to pull up her shirt while seated at the table to show us an etched 6-pack. The fact is that Laura is not only in better shape than 99% of this board will ever be, but she has more muscle as well.
It may be fashionable to bash people's photos on getbig, but trust me, in person there is absolutely nothing to bash about Laura other than the fact that she doesn't order dessert.

Then why compete in a competition and put yourself out there they way they do. If they were hitting 1st or 2nd place finishes they would not get bashed. But to make a big deal about them competeing and then about both of them finishing last, is just insane. She may look great for a 40 year old, can't take that away, but not even close to a competitive level.Well, you don't have any control over the competition, only yourself. Most of us are not Phil Heath and don't win our first and second shows and turn pro. Most of us use our first show as a learning experience and make improvements based upon what we learn. I'm sure she'll place better in future shows. I don't see anything wrong with posting your pre-contest or contest photos as long as you're in shape and not looking like Goodrum making some mockery of bodybuilding. Besides, we all know a woman can't really place high in fitness/figure contests without using man-like dosages of gear and gh.

Hence they live in a tiny apartment and I live in a nice big home. Laura, from the threads I see, the majority of people are giving you props. There a few that make numerous posts and bash you, but overall, even on getbig, the majority of comments seem to be positive.
In case you haven’t noticed, the people who really get attacked hard for posting pictures are the one's who react negatively to the comments. If you just laugh at yourself, people won't find it fun to pick on you anymore. This has been proven over and over in the pictures section.
My point is, quit looking at the bad and pay attention to the good. There is always going to be a lot of shit talked, afterall, this is getbig.

There is so much out of your control in bodybuilding/fitness, that the placing in a show is irrelevant. You may come in phenomenal shape, but if someone with superior genetics shows up that day, you're going to place lower. Or, you may have a judging panel that goes for "apples" instead of "oranges". If you're an "orange" you're SOL that day.
So, as far as I'm concerned, the only thing that matters is how you do against yourself. In that regard, I have to give kudos to both Mike/Laura. Both have managed to reach levels of development well beyond what they started with. No doubt it took a lot of effort and dedication.

It seems to me, that both Mike & Laura desperately long to attain the types of physiques that grace the pages of bodybuilding/fitness magazines. They very much aspire to have the types of bodies that command respect and admiration from others. I say this because of the lengths to which they have resorted to attain these physiques (drugs, plastic surgery, etc.) and how much value they place on the opinions of others. Hell, Mike even confessed to be willing to trade years of his life for a few added pounds of muscle! In my opinion, in spite of all their effort, neither has reached this elusive dream.

I think it's reasonable for any of us to want others to say (on our death bed) "he was a real man, look at what he did with his life" and then go on to list achievements.

He never had any kids, but he did have 17 inch quads at a show he did in 2006 where he placed second to last. Honestly, I don't think you are helping this die down. :-\ I haven't commented because I think it should just be dropped, but since you are fueling the fire....
I think Laura did a great job and accomplished what SHE set out to do. I give major kudos to her for doing it, sticking to it, and getting up there and posting pics. She did make some great changes in her body. It is hard for someone to get comp lean for the first time, especially for a women, I am impressed with the shape she got in, I think she will only look better in the future having done this before.
That being said, your comments on how the professional photos are the "bad" ones and people keep posting them is kind of backwards. Someone could say they are "bad" photos if the person was in a funny position or something, snapped when a person wasn't ready, bad light, whatever. The photos you took yes do make her look better, but they were taken farther away and probably with not as good a camera.
When Laura gets ready for her next comp you should focus on those "bad" photos, because they are more honest than the others.
If you keep commenting and starting more threads this is just going to go on. lWhy not just enjoy her having accomplished a goal and stop encouraging the flamers more?

i placed third in a class where the winner went on to turn pro
Laura came in fifth (or last).........and everyone including judges said she would have done great in the Masters class
"viable competitors" we have done one show each (i know peeps who have been competing on the local show scene for 10 years or more)
i have to laugh when you people say things like this .............watch and see this June (we will improve our placings)

I did my first two years at a community college. At that point, my choices were either wait a few years to be in a position to go away to school, or knock out the AA locally. The coursework is pretty similar the first two years anyway, and unless you're entering a field where school/degree carry weight, it isn't a huge deal.

My old school gave many scholarships to people for performance. Had nothing to do with income. That comes into play on *some*, but on others, it's whoever qualifies academically and writes the best essay.

someone named "gimmic" just googled "berzerkfury" and kept digging around until he came up with a name that seemed like it might be right (he was dumb enough to use the handle on another site while trying to keep his identity secret). berzerk of course denied it. i have a facebook account so i decided to search for it, and lo and behold "nick hersh" was the name of a uconn student. so it was the right name.

When you and BF publicly went against Mars in the boards for the first time, Sars tried to control it by saying it was just a misunderstanding and that we'd all move on. And in case you don't remember, it was you and BF who kept saying Mars should apologise, which forced Sars to choose between Mars on 1 side and you & BF on the other. Now I'm not saying that you did something wrong - it's not my affair for me to say such a thing and you know I'd never disrespect you, you whom I respect a lot and hold in high regard.
You and BF made Sars choose and when that happened, Sars did the only thing he could do (and what I'd have done in his place) - he realised both you and BF are valuable allies and way more 'worthy' than Mars, which is why he said Mars should apologise. And he gave Mars plenty of time to do it as well.
Mars knew about the offer and chose not to take it, which I'm glad he did cause like I mentioned elsewhere, it was a good move for him. So, I don't see how you can call Sars names. Again, no disrespect meant nor am I telling you off or anything. As leader, Sars had a tough call to make - he was forced to choose and he made a choice that was for the good of the whole team and because he obviously values you(mainly) and BF over Mars, rightfully so.
I think Sars did great and I'm sure a part of him's feeling bad for Mars, but he didn't have the luxury I have to say he'd step back and let the rest of you flame Mars. He took responsibility for his actions and lead by example, by being the first to openly flame Mars.
