Man and Woman were created in the divine image of God. Thus, they are equals in the eyes of God but with different roles. The role of the woman is "helper" to man.

Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." (Genesis 2:18)

Now does that mean that a helper is inferior? If that's true does that mean God is inferior to man?

We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. (Psalm 33:20)

These are great examples of man and woman being mutually subordinate to each other so that they may honor God's will:

Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ. (NRSV Ephesians 5:21)

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her (NRSV Ephesians 5:25)

While it's very clear that the church served Christ and that woman (as man's helper) should serve man anyone that has actually served in a leadership role will tell you that a true leader serves those who serve him. The ultimate example of this is Christ sacrificing himself for the church (i.e. mankind).
