Brooklyn lifter:
Being a big football fan, a few things i dont understand about the up coming scouting combines:

in football, lower body power is more important than upperbody. if one has to test strength in one area, should it not be the squat ??

very rarely a play in a game lasts more than 5 seconds, then why would they have the big guys bench the 225lb which is way too light and almost becomes an aerobic test.

would it not make more sense to have the bigger guys (ie the linemen, LBs. TEs) bench like 315 or 275 where the reps are lower and have the smaller players like the DBs and backs do the 225.

what are your thoughts

dirk digler:
It's just for hype factor. When selecting a player 99% of what they look at is past performance in games.

bigmikecox:
Its a big joke IMO. Just b/c you can bench 225 for 40 reps means nothing.  40 speed is important, but teams/GM's put too much stock in the combine.

what.:

I'm not sure what having 40 yard dash contests does either.  The average play in football changes directions 7 times.

BroadStreetBruiser:
the combine is a modern slave market
