When I lived in Detroit I got very used to this kind of shit. It's litteraly an everyday occurrence.
I remember this little kid who grew up down the street. Id bullshit with him. Seemed like a nice kid. As I watched him grow up he'd always act like that nice boy he used to be whenever I'd see him. Always respectful to me but obvious he began to be just another street hood.
Anyway, one night an autistic man was beaten to death. Horrible horrible death. Just violent, sadistic torture, right in the street too. And rumor in the neighborhood was this kid I knew did it. And I asked him if he did. He smiled at me sheepishly as if it was something he was proud of but didn't want to admit to...it was like i was asking him if he'd gotten laid yet. He just smiled like it was a fond memory. He didn't admit it but he didn't deny it either. Of course dozens of people witnessed it but none would talk to the police.
I fucking hated living there overtime...and if I thought that black people were the problem let me tell you, after living in Portland for 15 years, white people , in their own way, can be equally as fucking disgusting. During the 2020 riots , some white kids were vandalizing a police building. Well these old ladies, like 70 years old grandparents just sweet old grannies, wete outside the police station supporting the police, holding signs that say 'back the blue'. You couldn't imagine the vile hatred these white kids turned on tgese old ladies. Dumping buckets of paint, shouting at them calling them pieces of shit, spitting on them...just fucking disgusting. White kids will turn on their fucking elders over some piece of shit crackhead that was supposedly killed by the police on the otger side of the country.
One thing I noticed about living in Detroit and generally speaking the black culture there was the value placed on loyalty. Loyalty is like a guiding principle. Whereas in a lot of white communities following rules is the guiding princiole. Now following rules may seem like a good thing and usually is there is very little loyalty. Example two coworkers who are close. One breaks some trivial rule. Always late or takes a few extra minutes on lunch or parks in a spot he's not supposed to. Overtime the other person will turn on him even if it doesn't affect him, even if the guy performs his job well but you can bet his buddy will report him for violating the rules even if it costs his buddy his job. Whereas with black friends, if you're cool with them they'll be shockingly loyal to you and would probably never sacrifice that loyalty over some trivial rule.
I think it's because in most black families its the mother that is the backbone of the family. And everything is based on emotion and a mother is always loyal to their children. While the Dad is usually the backbone in white families and historically raise their children with a kind of 'law and order' approach.
Just my 2 cents. I know generalizations but just my observations over the years.

But the sheer number difference in crime rates by race, is both brutal and true.
And the black folks in my area know it, and say they are glad they live here as well.
(Well, the 3 guys I know, work and train with say it at least).
Very small sample size, but willing to go out on a limb and surmise that ALL the folks who live around here think the same way.
(And arent in a hurry to move to Chicongo, Balty, Philly (or even Boston)...

The area i live is insanely safe. We can leave our garage doors open all night if we wanted to. There are literally zero violent crimes. Just a car stolen every now and then. I'm in a small community back in the woods and there is one way in and out. We all know who drives what car; so people really watch out for suspicious vehicles. In the 3 years i've lived here the only bad thing that happen was someone stole some furniture off someone's back patio, which was pretty odd and random. Many people think it was done by a friend of the home owner.
