The consensus is people began ballooning sometime in the mid to late 80's. I lived in various Asian countries starting in '91. Every time I visited the states during the 90's I noticed people were fatter each time I visited. I would notice this right off the bat upon my arrival at LAX.

Young people are especially prone to overweight these days. They has steadily worsened over the past 20 years.

The other trend started about 10 years. During the 80's, 90's, and oughts, young people made it a point to be attractive. Since around 2012 or so, a lot of Millennials began uglying themselves with the hipster (SJW and soy boi) look. This is the second wave of deliberate uglyfication in modern times. The first wave was, of course, the hippies of the late 60's through early 70's period. I think this trend goes along with the increasing obesity of our population as well as leftist politics of this crowd. Some of the well-known historical figures of leftism in the 20th century (Lenin, Mao, Trotsky) were notoriously filthy in their personal hygiene, or lack thereof.
