Top 10 Albums growing up that meant something to you
Agnostic007:
Now I know there are 30 or 40 great albums we all grew up with so the list is not absolute. In fact mine changes all the time but for me, Born in 62 and having older siblings I would say in no particular order;
Journey- Escape
Steve Miller Band- Book of Dreams
CCR- Cosmos Factory (I learned drums playing to this 8 track my brother had)
Meatloaf- Bat out of Hell (Just the artistry of Jim Steinman in the rock operas, aided by Meatloaf's amazing vocals)
Fleetwood Mac- Rumours (First 8 track I bought for myself)
Hotel California
Deep Purple Machine Head
Kansas- Point of No Return
Elton-Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
AC/DC- Back in Black. ( I loved the earlier stuff with Bon as well but this album hit at the right time)
CalvinH:
Iron Maiden-Piece of Mind
Lynyrd Skynyrd-Live at the Fox
Pearl Jam-10
Jimi Hendrix-Greatest hits
GNR-Appetite for Destruction
The Doors-Greatest hits
Led Zepplin-Physical Graffiti
SRV-Couldn't Stand the Weather
Van Halen-First album
Iron Maiden-Number of the Beast
...Subject to change ;D

Good thread:
I will assume "growing up" to be HS / early adult
Pink Floyd: The Wall
Beatles: Magical Mystery Tour (cousin told me to buy it and "Meet the Beatles" so I did)
Led Zepplin: Physical Graffiti
Charlie Daniels: Million Mile Reflections
Rolling Stones: Let it Bleed / Sticky Fingers (dad listened to the Stones all day)
Metallica: Ride the Lightening / Master of Puppets
Pantera: Vulgar Display of Power
Slayer: Seasons in the Abyss
Subject to change
AiC: Dirt and some grunge stuff likely, but that was late 20s

As Calvin eluded to, subject to change. The Wall could have been in my list and may be there next week.

I just created a "music room" in my house. Part of the decor is framed albums and posters of bands that "meant something" to me growing up. I graduated in 1980 so it's limited to around 69-85 I guess. That's kind of the reason for the post. I ended up getting black and white 24X32 posters of Elton, Stones, and a few icons of the 70's and then bought albums to frame with many on my list. The sad part is in the late 90's I owned a sandwich shop in Austin. Joe's Sandwich Shop. It had a large game room with a pool table and arcade games. I had amassed a record collection of about 100-200 albums over the years and mounted them all on the wall. Every Van Halen, Deep Purple, Boston, KISS, etc that I grew up listening to. When we sold it around 2000, the buyer wanted us to leave the albums. Hell, I didn't even own a turntable at that time so I signed off no problem. Now I wish I had kept them all.
