I was kinda segregated one night on the door when some trouble flared. Some guy was going mental trying to get in another part of club to fight.

I was sorting an arguement out at same time.

I just shouted loud as fuck at the guy "YOU. STAY THERE" he did. calmed down totally.

I used to freeze up when someone shouted ta me like that never knew what to do. Few of my teachers were like that as a kid. Kinda scary when you are 8 getting shouted at like that

Once while I was walking about late at night in town a car chase suddenly raced past by me. Some shitty gypsy with a trashed Opel running away from undercover cops. The cops managed to cut in front of him just where I was, one of them jumped out, pulled a gun and shouted "STOP!!". I almost pissed my pants.

The gypsy got away though.

Well most of the time when police shouts stop, it means they have their guns pulled and have taken aim, and if u dont stop then they will shoot u in the leg or shoulder somewhere to force you down. But that's a bit longer explaination than just "Stop", so for the sake of time, they shorten it. But yea, if someone has robbed a store, shot the clerk, stolen a car, in a high speed chase going down neighborhood streets over 100, saying "stop" to one of them doesn't seem like it'd work.
