Venezuela: The Discussion
« on: March 01, 2007, 02:37:59 PM »
I'm not anti socialist. I'm not for preventing other nations from becoming socialist.  For us I don't think a solid socialist system is a system best suited for the American creature.  I'm for what works for the people and what the people want.  In a population where most of the people want to socialise and they believe it can work to best fit the needs of the people, hell yes, I'm pro socialist under those terms. ;D  Lets face it, there is a 180 degree difference between what is good for the people of American and what is good for the people of Honduras.

But in Hugo Chavez's Venezuela, the people can't have their say democratically.  That is why so many are voting with their feet and leaving.

Really ???  His socialist agenda has been openly known for a very long time and he won reelection in a landslide.  He's taking the country in the direction a clear majority wanted and voted for.  Let's see, I don't know how many times I've had a redneck Bush loving hick tell me, love it or leave it when I bitched about Bush, I wonder if the same should apply to the minority not liking what the majority voted for in Venezuela...  It's not like Chavez turned socialist right after he won reelection ;)  This is the will of the people and I support it.  Headlines going into the election were, "Win would push Chávez closer to socialist dream " and they elected him, what do you not consider democratic about this?  Everything has been legal.  He was given the power to make the changes through legal means.

I saw the discussion once again arising...

What you may ask?

The Venezuela issue, Chavez running his show down there.

Why not start a thread discussing the situation down there, and hopefully all threads related to this topic could be merged to this one as well, keeping it in one place, so to speak.

Vene = Venezuela

Chavez = Hugo Chavez, president in Vene

Bolivarian Revolution is central to Chavez, here's the wiki link:

Enjoy the good debate!

I'd like to start off with the opinion that although that I support the decision to nationalize the oil riches, I am opposing any kind of shut down of democracy, which has been reported.

edit: Good moderating. Nice to get those posts into this topic.

Amnesty International doesn't consider Chavez's Venezuela to be quite so friendly.

So... Amnesty international doesn't consider Bush to be so friendly either... infact search their site, you'll find they have a much bigger interest in Bush than Chavez... So where do we go now???  I'll get rid of Chavez if you put Bush in his place :D

Dude, I think it was mostly a reference to that Bush is known to fart a lot in meetings and at work in general.

Chavez is hurting his own people with the moves away from democracy.

The question is if a nationalisation of the oil resources would be realistic in any other way?

To make the oil 100 % Venezuelan owned, is of key importance.

I'm just afraid that once Chavez enters the road away from democracy, he'll find it a hard way back. :-\
