You are right, and least in my case. I knew exactly what I was voting for or more accurately voting against. Whether on not nothing much changes depends on what should change over the next four years. If we have a Republican dominated Senate bent on keeping the status quo or even revenge, very little will likely get passed. However, if Republicans are willing to work with Democrats for a common good, something might actually get done. Some things I believe everyone can agree on is getting the pandemic under control, businesses up and running, people employed and the economy back on track. Of course the details of exactly how to do this will need to be worked through and this is where things often get hung up. The key is to compromise.

Obama's policies sure don't seem to reflect this train of thought.  He cut the unemployment rate in half.  Leaving Trump with a booming economy and continuously dropping unemployment rate.  When Obama left UE was 4.7 and at it's best under Trump was down to 3.5.  Good job to both of them.  But, Obamas final 3 years in office produced a million more jobs than Trumps 1st three years in office.
