Trump Eyes 10% Spending Cuts, 20% Slash Of Federal Workers
The Washington Examiner ^ | 01/17/17 | PAUL BEDARD
Posted on 01/17/2017 6:49:57 AM PST by Enlightened1

Making good on a promise to slash government, President-elect Trump has asked his incoming team to pursue spending and staffing cuts.

Insiders said that the spending reductions in some departments could go as high as 10 percent and staff cuts to 20 percent, numbers that would rock Washington if he follows through.

At least two so-called "landing teams" in Cabinet agencies have relayed the call for cuts as part of their marching orders to shrink the flab in government.

The cuts would target discretionary spending, not mandated programs such as Medicare or Social Security, the sources said.

The spending reductions are expected to be used to help pay for Trump's plan to boost the Pentagon's budget, tax cuts and some pet projects, potentially including the anti-immigration wall on the nation's southern border.

The teams also are looking at staffing cuts over four years through attrition, a hiring freeze and reorganization.

The plan is winning cheers in conservative, anti-tax and anti-spending corners in Washington that have long sought massive cuts in the bureaucracy.

Presidents rarely cut spending, choosing freezes instead. In the meantime, federal spending has reached historic levels. Trump has picked a budget hawk, Rep. Mick Mulvaney, to head the Office of Management and Budget, a clear sign that spending cuts are a top priority.

Still, Trump is likely to face a wall of opposition from Democrats and federal unions who consider much of the federal workforce on their side.

President-elect Donald Trump will swear in as president on a Bible used by Abraham Lincoln during his first inauguration as president.

The Lincoln Bible is currently part of the Library of Congress collection and was used by Obama to swear in as president after the 2008 and 2012 elections. Only Obama and Lincoln have used that copy of the Bible to swear the oath of office.

Turnbull humiliated for thinking he could outsmart Donald Trump, Andrew Bolt writes
Hearld Sun ^ | 2/02/2017 | Andrew Bolt
Posted on 2/3/2017, 8:05:05 AM by nikos1121

MALCOLM Turnbull thought he could outsmart Donald Trump and trap him into taking 1250 of our boat people.

Huge mistake, and now he’s been humiliated.

There is no surprise that an angry Trump attacked Turnbull in their call at the weekend and hung up halfway through, after just 25 minutes.

What did Turnbull expect?

This political disaster was always on the cards from the moment Turnbull announced, on November 13 last year, that he’d signed a deal with then US president Barack Obama to take our boat people detained on Nauru and Manus Island.

That was very dumb because just five days earlier Trump had been unexpectedly elected the next president, having campaigned hard against exactly this kind of thing.

Trump had made it perfectly clear that he was against taking in alleged refugees from jihadist countries without at least “extreme vetting”. Turnbull knew this. In fact, he’d planned to announce his Obama arrangement early this year, but after Trump’s win rushed it forward in an apparent attempt to present Trump with a fait accompli — a done-deal the new President would not dare undo.

Trump had no choice but to back off. The Post had reported him accusing Turnbull of wanting to send him more “Boston bombers”, and he could hardly now tell the American voters he was happy to take them.

So Trump instead tweeted: “Do you believe it? The Obama Administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from Australia. Why? I will study this dumb deal!”

Turnbull has a very nervous wait now to see if his boat people “solution” will survive. He’s also learned a very hard lesson: don’t try messing with Trump.

Donald Trump Slams Arnold Schwarzenegger Again: He Was A Horrible Governor Of California
Hollywood Life ^ | Fri, February 3, 2017 1:06pm EST | by Max Page
Posted on 2/3/2017, 3:07:36 PM

The Donald Trump and Arnold Schwarzenegger feud rages on. The Donald has hit back again at the new The Apprentice host, claiming he was a ‘horrible’ Governor of California. Oh boy! Hollywood life, com has the latest developments on their fiery, and very public spat.

The Donald Trump and Arnold Schwarzenegger war of the words shows no signs of reaching a ceasefire any time soon. President Trump escalated hostilities on Feb. 3. by trashing the 69-year-old’s political record. “Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger did a really bad job as Governor of California and even worse on the Apprentice…but at least he tried hard!” Trump tweeted.

Follow Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger did a really bad job as Governor of California and even worse on the Apprentice...but at least he tried hard! 5:24 AM - 3 Feb 2017 17,479 17,479 Retweets 79,053 79,053 likes Trump’s latest comments follow just one day after the 70-year-old slammed the former bodybuilder for his poor ratings on the TV show The Apprentice. During the National Prayer breakfast, Donald called on worshippers to pray for Arnold and “for those ratings.” Schwarzenegger took over the reality TV hosting mantle from Trump following his successful presidential campaign.

Hostilities kicked off back on Jan. 5. when Donald tweeted, “Wow, the ratings are in, and Arnold Schwarzenegger got ‘swamped’ (or destroyed) by comparison to the ratings machine, DJT. So much for being a movie star — and that was season 1 compared to season 14. Now compare him to my season 1. But who cares, he supported [John Kasich] and [Hillary Clinton].” Well, we can think of one person who certainly appears to care — guess he has nothing better to do with his time.

Schwarzenegger being Schwarzenegger, didn’t just take Trump’s diss lying down. he hit back with a video recording, offering to swap places with the President! “Hey Donald, I have a great idea,” he said. “Why don’t we switch jobs? You take over TV because you’re such an expert in ratings, and I take over your job. And then, people can finally sleep comfortably again. Hmm?”

Donald Trump’s Inauguration — Pics White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, has tried to portray his boss’ remarks as being nothing more than a “lighthearted jab,” going on to claim the President’s remarks were “beautiful.” He spoke out following the prayer meeting incident. “I think if you look at the totality of his remarks, they were absolutely beautiful,” Spicer told the media. “And I think to hone in on that it was a light-hearted moment he was trying to have with a big supporter of the National Prayer Breakfast and a personal friend.”
