Title: Ed Coan at 20 yrs old
Post by: Gym Rat on March 23, 2023, 10:31:01 AM
Listening to Ed on Ron and Dustys podcast.
Some of the numbers are mind blowing when being reminded of them.

Age 20 for instance, weighing 182 lbs (single-ply in those days 1984):

Squat
760.6   782.6   -804.7

Bench
435.4   451.9

Deadlift
749.5   -791       791

Total
2025.6

Just insane numbers w/ early gear. Stuff was like "Under Armor" fabric

god no...

The support gear was very light-weight.
My buddy has a 1st run Inzer shirt from that time. And a Crain DL suit).
Its like a under-armor thing. Easily put it on yourself, etc.

The support gear and fabric has come a very long way, and its night and day.

Oops, thought you meant the drugs.

LOL  ;D

Just looking at my Iron Game History about PL, Jan states the early gear around that time was 50% cotton and 50% Polyester. (And a thin single-layer).
You got something out of it when tight, just not like the mummies of today (or when Westside was tearing up the meets).

Yes, prescription Anadrol and Melatonin were still very powerful back then, like they are today!

He's weak and frail, you can bet he couldn't strict curl 167.5 lbs.

Had some decent lifts for his era but it’s not a real meet if there isn’t a strict curl.

Bump.

Ed was speaking on Ron & Dustys podcast about back in the day, he had a Weider contract.
Hatfield was working for Joe, and was able to bring Ed in.
Joe would fly him out to Cali, give him a car for a few weeks, put him up in a nice suite, etc.
(Just to do some photo shoots). Makes sense why Coan shows up in some of those older Weider instruction vids people have posted here lately.
And Ed's image was on the Weider lifting-belt packaging.

He's got some good stories on the Youtube show/Podcast (Its just Bodybuilding)...

Ed will also personally respond to Instagram comments. He's incredible.

Interesting to think he is stronger on the static links than Brian Shaw.

The guy who runs the channel (Scott McNally) is a great person... Hard working guy.
Built a pretty good business for himself doing that and coaching (of course).
But he got to quit his day job, so good on him.

Drugs & Stuff (w/ Dave Crosland) and "Blood Sweat & Gear" are also pretty good...

Pro Tip: Americans don't use the expression "good on him". Lose the UK vocabulary and grammatical patterns and maybe some of the members might believe your lie that you are American.

Oh right - I recall Gym Rat using the term bloke before.  ;D

He sucks caulks?

Over the days, he's been looking at Robs profile, Scotts, mine (obsessed much) and a few others.
Deletes messages, deletes posts, calls others "gimmicks".

He goes on every forum, explodes on everyone, gets banned for threatening, etc.
Captain Meltdown.

He talks a lot about inverted penises, so has some sort of obsession there. Maybe likes them in his caulk-cavity. **shrug**
Im unsure Matt...

I have a 30 year old Marathon deadlift suit  :D It's actually very good still, probably compares well with single ply deadlift suits today.  :D

Nothing like the canvas and double-ply crap, but well-made for its time..
