My guess is that at least in regards to his obvious weight problem, his father is both concerned and somewhat disappointed. Christopher may be a good person and a loving son. Imagine the shaming he probably gets because he isn't fit like his dad was and still is. Christopher has fairly recently lost some weight, although he is still very large.
