I think the best situation is for the Pres to be from one party, Congress controlled by the opposite. Keep all these idiots in check to a degree.
Certainly divided government has worked well in the past, but a lot of that was luck. It is not guaranteed to work. A lot of things have to come into place. In the 80s you had Democrat House that had been in power for 30 years that had to work with a Republican President who won in a landslide. In the 90s, you had a President who was such a narcissist that he was willing to go against the ideology of his own party to do what the country wanted. He did things that no Republican President would be able to do. He had conservative Dems like Dick Morris advising him. Do you know what party Morris belongs to now? I will give you a hint. Its not the Democrat Party and its not the Losertarian Party.
But while Bush was admitadly not ideal with Dennis Hastert, he was made far worse by Nancy Pelosi. And in the 1920s, which was one of the biggest eras of prosperity in our history, the Republicans controlled virutally all levels of government. Divided government does not always work and one party rule is not always bad.
