I think the best situation is for the Pres to be from one party, Congress controlled by the opposite.  Keep all these idiots in check to a degree.

We need term limits, and make these jobs part time and shrik the govt by at least 50% as well as get rid of most agencies.

I agree.  A President who didn't try to "reinvent the wheel" and Newt was much more of a truly fiscal conservative....it was a good balance.

Interesting story here. What do you think of Reagan's son being a liberal? What do you think of these claims where he noticed his father having issues while still in office.

I think his claims are bogus. And, Jr. just admitted to such.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/01/18/ron_reagan_admits_he_got_facts_wrong_about_alzheimers.html

In short, he's simply trying to hock his book to liberals, to cash into the 100th anniversary of his dad's birthday (which many conservatives will honor).

The mainstream media often goes into heat, when they learn the adult offspring of a famous conservative is a liberal.

That's why they've been slobbering over Meghan McCain and, now Ronald Reagan Jr.

They don't seem to be quite as interested when a relative of a liberal (perceived or actual) happens to be a conservative.

Notice how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's niece, Dr. Alveda King, hardly gets as many invites on the "mainstream" media.

haha, exactly....when either side is unchecked.....wow, they do some stupid stuff.  Or they just freeze like a deer in the headlights and do nothing for fear of the party being blamed....ala, when Bush had a Repub majority and they did shit-all to try to reign in spending....but then again Newt was probably the last true fiscal conservative we've had on the national stage....but even he was limited by what his party was willing to do.

Republicans spend like there is no tomorrow and don't give a fuck about accountability. I hate to break it to ya sweet heart.

I hate to break it to ya sweetheart, but its the House of Representatives that controls spending, not the President.

You are too or you forget pretty easily
Both sides spend like there is no tomorrow so by defending the republicans like this you are actually supporting the very people who are ruining this country. Obamas is not ruining this country the spending is and the republicans spends just as much

Really?????

Largest Bush deficit : Fiscal Year 2008 $455 billion
Smallest Obama deficit: Fiscal Year 2010 $1.3 trillion

It doesnt look like Republicans spend as much as Democrats to me. Oh, and by the way, that 2010 fiscal budget includes almost all of TARP being paid back. And it STILL was only $125 billion below the 2009 fiscal year budget deficit. If you think the Rpeublicans are just as a big of a problem as the Democrats, you have your head up your ass.

there is no comparison. Everything the left touches turns to crap. THe only failure of the right I can think of in the past 30 years is the downfall of religion in our society. And theyre only halfway responsible for that.

Certainly divided government has worked well in the past, but a lot of that was luck. It is not guaranteed to work. A lot of things have to come into place. In the 80s you had Democrat House that had been in power for 30 years that had to work with a Republican President who won in a landslide. In the 90s, you had a President who was such a narcissist that he was willing to go against the ideology of his own party to do what the country wanted. He did things that no Republican President would be able to do.  He had conservative Dems like Dick Morris advising him. Do you know what party Morris belongs to now? I will give you a hint. Its not the Democrat Party and its not the Losertarian Party.

But while Bush was admitadly not ideal with Dennis Hastert, he was made far worse by Nancy Pelosi. And in the 1920s, which was one of the biggest eras of prosperity in our history, the Republicans controlled virutally all levels of government. Divided government does not always work and one party rule is not always bad.

Maybe Iraq was unnecessary or ill advised, but if that's the one thing you can point to, its a pretty weak argument. There is a democratically elected political structure in place, Saddam is dead and we are leaving the country in about a year. Also bare in mind that if Saddam had allowed the UN inspectors to do their jobs, there wouldn't have been an invasion. Saddam is just as much to blame as Bush in that regard.

It should also be noted that Bill Clinton's impotent sanctions along with UN corruption also spearheaded the second Iraqi invasion.

In case you need a refresher, here's the list of Democrats who voted to give George W.
